Best Cabin Camping near Sabine National Forest, TX

Went to Powell not knowing what to expect.  The lake is beautiful, the camp grounds are spotless and the Staff is awesome.  Great facilities whether tent camping, RV camping or staying in a cabin.  Cabins are small and rustic as you would expect but very clean.  What you’d want since you will be outside enjoying the great outdoors!  Boat rentals, pontoons for larger groups, fishing, water sports, they have it all.  Did I mention how awesome the staff is??? So accommodating and friendly.  We will be back!

The Army Recreation sight managed by MWR is a very well run campground and boat launch. Making a reservation was easy, and the lady i made the reservation with initially even called to follow up when the weather turned ugly.

Our stay was in one of their Yurts. Though they do have cabins as well as primitive camping options. The yurt was supplied with two bunks, the bottoms being a a full size with the top bunks being twins. Amenities included heating and air conditioning as well as a mini fridge, keurig, and a couple of small drawers and a lamp. The only real complaint i can say i had was some of the linoleum tile was loose inside. Other than that, the yurt was an interesting cross between cabin and tent.

Fishing is also very available, as well as playground, boat launch, boat rentals and R.V. accommodations as well.

We may just go back and try a cabin next time as the temperatures have been getting cold here.

Also be aware, there is a one time pet fee when staying in the cabins and yurts.

South Toledo Bend State Park is located near Leesville on Toledo Bend lake. The lake is known for Bass Fishing and is listed as one of the best bass fishing lakes in the country. I’ve also read that the lake has great areas for scuba diving, if you are into that. The park is not far from Fort Polk, and offers nice opportunities for camping, hiking, boating, fishing, kayaking, etc. The campsites are mostly all heavily wooded, and spacious. Plenty of room between sites. They have several waterfront sites with hookups, but the I terror sites were nice also, and most have a lake view. The park has docks for fishing and boat launch, and a fish cleaning station. Theres a nice playground too. There’s also rental cabins that looked really nice. The park was still being cleaned up from hurricane Laura, but was still very nice. The best place to camp I’ve seen around this area!

We absolutely love this park!  RV and tent sites right on the water, beach area for swimming, boat docks and ramp, etc.  We extended our stay and plan to for awhile!  The staff is so welcoming!  Oh and there are 13 gorgeous cabins for rent!  I highly recommend this park!

Incomparable beauty located on a tranquil harbor off of Toledo Bend Reservoir, one of the top 5 bass fishing lakes in the US.  Cabins and lakeview RV sites on a bay surrounded by beautiful unscarred National Forest.  A wildly popular restaurant and grill offering live entertainment every weekend.  Kids love the swimming pool and splash deck and nearby jungle gym.

Nice state park on western boundary of Louisiana along Toledo Bend Reservoir. Camping here is usually quite nice from late Oct through late April. Only (5) undeveloped campsites are available for tents/hammocks only. They have a great view looking out over the huge lake. Each has a picnic table and a fire ring w/ steel grill rack. On weekends you must reserve campsites/cabins for a minimum of two nights when doing online reservations. There is a large number of improved campsites that have water and electrical hook-ups, and quite a few cabins that can be rented, some of which also have a nice view of the lake. Bathhouse was fairly clean whenever I have been there, and has showers, sinks, and flush toilets. I would have given this park's camping area a 5-star rating, but there was no hot water left to take a nice warm shower during my last visit. Toledo Bend Reservoir is the #1 bass fishing lake in America 2 years in a row. Clean water and a few sandy beaches along the two small nearby islands are great for hanging out on when canoeing/kayaking/ boating. Bald Eagles are often seen during late Fall, Winter months, and early Spring. Please note that the raccoons are professional thieves at this state park, so you need to put your food away at night.

This camp ground is well kept. There is a nice beach and really nice fishing pears and dock. There is a large open pavilion to rent as well as an enclosed group building. Cabins and duplex housing are also an option. I prefer the pull through full hook up section but there are plenty of tent and RV sites with water and electricity. There are some short trails and an amphitheater is located near the bath house. I try to camp there once a year.

We spent a weekend there in August, and had a great time! The park was clean, and the staff was very friendly and active around the property. We were surprised to find a cafe located inside the park, the food was quite good! And the store has a good variety of things to choose from. All the other campers we met were very friendly, and everyone seemed to be having a good time. You can see deer wandering through the park in the morning hours. We stayed in a cabin, which was clean and nicely appointed. We even rented a pontoon boat for an evening ride around Lake Sam Rayburn, it's really beautiful. We will definitely be going back!

Loved our stay here. We have camped several Texas parks and this one is nicer than any we’ve found so far. Nice clean upgraded bath houses. Great Lake views. Spotted an eagle out our window.

If you want to escape the hot summer in Texas, I would recommend coming to Brookeland Campground because there is a beautiful lake nearby. My cousins and I took a trip to this campground to enjoy the lake, hiking and of course the outdoors. We brought a 6 person tent, and this fit comfortably in our campsite. There is also a fire ring and table within your site as well. There is only 1 bathroom within the campground, or at least what we could find. It was a porta-potty style, and smelt so bad. Not sure how often they clean it, but it was pretty bad (especially with the heat....made it worse!). Thankfully we came prepared and brought our own toilet paper, because by the 2nd night we were there, there was no toilet paper in the bathroom. We heard a few people complain about this. Although the bathroom was gross, the rest of the campground was pretty clean. There are dumpsters as you leave, so please make sure to clean up after yourselves. We enjoyed hiking in the morning, and then playing in the lake mid morning-afternoon. There were tons of people swimming, boating, tubing, kayaking and stand up paddle boarding. It was a blast, and perfect for the hot weather. Definitely bring bug spray because there were so many mosquitos near the campground. I left with a few pretty big welts. I would definitely come back to this campground! Recommend.

Outhouse style toilets...but pretty in the fall with views of the lake.

Great area. More wooded and peaceful. Fewer views of the lake than Cypress Bend. Huge pool is a plus. Staff are always courteous. Clean bathhouse. Water and electricity only. Dump station is provided. Two lane boat ramp. Fish cleaning station. Playground. Pavilion.

Well maintained park; they have tidied grounds and many dead trees a leaving beautiful wooded park. Staff and personnel always so kind. Facilities well maintained and clean; restrooms, showers, Playground, laundry. Great fishing and nice fish cleaning station. Stayed a month so escape northern winter; will come back!
