Big Creek Resort, Marina, & Campground

One of my favorite local campgrounds

I like this park because it's close to home. It's got a good space between sites and is broken into 3 or 4 areas so you're not just piled in like sardines. You can being 4-wheeled vehicles that have a steering wheel. No sewer hookups, but there is a dump station. Unfortunately, subsequent major floods have caused them to lose much of the tree cover. It's great when camping in groups though, which we do quite often. All sites have views of the lake. They have a really good fireworks display on 4th of July.

    Type of Park: Private-owned

Check In: 4p Check Out: 3p

    Site#79- Back-In

    $35 per night($105 total)

    Water 20/30/50 amp

    Picnic Table with concrete pad

Grass site. No rock or concrete base

👍🏻 Pros: No trees to avoid

On the end of the line so no one is on the"front" side of the camper

Good area for camping in groups

Close to good swimming areas and store

    Close to boat ramp

👎🏻 Cons: Split-level site- table is down a slight hill from parking area. No shade

Across from the cabins on stilts, lake view is a little blocked

Cabins are being refurbished and the equipment and materials are stacked near the site(and some construction noise)

No grill or fire ring at this site

📝 Park Notes: Gates closed and locked from midnight to 6 am on weekends.

Closed at 10 pm on week days.

Can bring golf carts, ATV's(machines with steering wheels, not handle bars)

Dump Station- a little hard to get to for big rigs. Also hard to leave the park from there. You may have to go back into the park to turn around.

Park Store- has fishing bait and supplies, too

Cabins are under re-construction There is a Places Munzee here

    Boat Ramp

🐦 Wildlife: Birds: Cormorants(Water Turkeys), barn swallows, scissor-tail

Lake Somerville State Park Birch Creek Unit Campground

Nice park with green space between sites

    • Water

    • 20/30 amp(had 50 amp outlet, but only 20& 30 breakers)

    • Grill

    • Fire Ring with adjustable height grate

    • Picnic Table

    • Site Pad: asphalt. Site was just long enough for my 24' camper and my truck and not much room between.

    👍🏻 Pros:

    • Near the water with a trail to get there

    • Green space between the site and neighbors

    • Good kayaking area

    👎🏻 Cons:

    • The spot is tight getting in. My 10' high camper had low hanging branches on it(but they were soft, not stiff). Lots of vines/shrubs across from the site, so no extra room there.

    📝 Park Notes:

    • Park does not have a gate, so it doesn't close

    • Dump Station for each camping loop

    • Restrooms/ Bath House

    • Boat ramp

    • Fishing jetty (pier is closed)

    • This campground is better for winter camping. Great buffer from wind and neighbors. Only a handful of sites have direct access to the water.

    • Lots of trails

    • There are Munzees and Geocaches here

    • Group pavilion/kitchen available

    • 2 group shelters available

🐦 Wildlife:• Birds: Shore birds, egrets, herons, cardinals, mockingbirds

    • Deer

    • Raccoons(I saw their tracks, but not the critters)

More info an video at https://www.denisevajdak.com/2021/08/my-birthday-weekend-2021.html

Site 23 was better (stayed in this one twice). Wider, nice view of lake. Not very long, but easier to get into.

    Rocky Creek (Somerville Lake)

Great campgound with lots of green space

    Type of Park: COE

Check In: 3p Check Out: 2p

    Site#144- Back-In

    💲28 per night

    • Water

    • 20/30/50 amp- pedestal looks pretty new

    • Grill- good condition

    • Fire Ring with flip over grate

    • Metal mesh picnic table with cover, far enough away so awnings came out fully

    • Site Pad: Level, crushed granite. Slopes up at the roadside.

    👍🏻 Pros:

    • On the shore of the lake facing west

    • Trees for some shade• Covered picnic table

    • Close to restrooms/showers

    • Plenty of room between sites

    • This site is aligned perfectly. Sit at the picnic table and watch the sun go down between the trees

    • Extra parking area across from site(mostly unused and starting to grow up)

    👎🏻 Cons:

    • No sewer hookups

    • Site slopes off steep on edge of site. Watch small children

    • Some of the trees around the site have been cut down. They still show on Google maps though.

    • Watch for ants

    📝 Park Notes:

    • Gates closed and locked from 10p to 6p- can get out, but not back in

    • 2 Dump Stations- the one closest to the entry gate has you facing into the park

    • Restrooms/ Showers

    • Playground

    • 3 miles of Nature Trails

    • Boat ramp is closed- under reconstruction

    • Group shelter for rent

    • Lots of dumpsters throughout the park

    • Quite a few deer

    Yegua Creek Campground

    great

It is mentioned that the campground has 82 sites, out of which 65 have 50-amp electrical and water hookups. Additionally, it provides flush toilets, showers, picnic tables, fire rings, two boat ramps house of hazards, an interpretive trail, and a dump station on-site. The natural features of the campground include the scenic shoreline of Somerville Lake, where pelicans and other waterfowl can be seen.

    Jetstream RV Resort at Waller

    Great RV park!

We stayed here for about 5 weeks and loved our stay! Lots of great amenities and awesome staff! Friendly neighbors and a lot of full timers so not a lot of traffic or noise. The park was clean with full hookups, wide roads and level concrete pads. Pet friendly- our two doggos loved the dog wash station! Highly recommend!

    Jetstream RV Resort at Waller

    wonderful

We stayed here for almost five weeks, and we had a wonderful time! A wonderful team and a multitude of wonderful amenities! There is not a lot of traffic or noise because there are a lot of full-time residents and friendly neighbors. The park was spotless, and it featured wide roads, concrete pads that were level, with complete connections. Pet-friendly; our two canine companions absolutely adored the dog wash station. Recommendation heartily! contexto

    Yegua Creek Campground

Nice park with views of sunrise and sunset

    • Water

    • 20/30/50 amp

    • Grill on a swivel so you can turn it in high winds

    • Fire Ring with flip-over grate

    • Metal mesh Picnic Table. Table is in full sun in early-mid afternoon, but not for long. A canopy would help.

    • Site Pad: Crushed Granite and level. Very long site with extra room after the pad site

    👍🏻 Pros:

    • Nice view of the water toward Welch Park and the dam

    • You can get a good view of the sunset and sunrise

    • Close to the restrooms/shower

    • Wide view of the lake as it curves around the campground

    • Shade, but open areas so breeze can come through

👎🏻 Cons:• No sewer hookups at site

    📝 Park Notes:

    • Gates closed and locked from 10p to 6a(can get out, but not back in)

    • Dump Station

    • Restrooms/ Bath House(but had LOTS of tiny dead bugs piled up)

    • Most of this campground has a barrier wall, so only limited spots where you can access the water. One place in this loop and a bigger area(but busy) section on the other side of the main loop.

    • There are Munzees and Geocaches here and in the area

    • You can use your America the Beautiful Access Passes here. They sell them at the main entrance booth, but they were out of the Annual Passes.

    🐦 Wildlife:

    • Birds: Cardinals(not afraid to hang out on my site), Mockingbirds, Herons, Cranes, Shore birds, LBJ's(little brown jobbers), Chickadees

    • Deer

    The Western RV Park

    Great location for ShuffleFest

    The Western RV Park

    Behind The Western Steakhouse& Dancehall

    9524 Highway 6 Loop S

    Navasota, TX 77868

    936-306-3821

    westernrv@yahoo.com

    Type of Park: Private-owned

    Check In:? Check Out:?- Call

    Site#32- Back-In

$45 per night (3% fee for credit card)

    Water

    20/30/50 amp

    Sewer

    Site Pad: Concrete

    👍🏻 Pros:

    • Very wide sites. Can park the tow vehicle next to the rig
    • Brand new- all new electric, water, sewer
    • Sites are level
    • No need for rugs and such

    👎🏻 Cons:

    • It's a big concrete parking lot with hookups- nothing special beyond that
    • The sites were wide, but there's only about a foot or so of space between sites
    • No picnic tables or grills
    • Grass only around the edges of the lot (Keep that in mind for pets)
    • Some spots around the edges had a tiny bit of shade

    📝 Park Notes:

Large, bright light poles and the lights are on all night, hard to tell when the sun is coming up and not just the lights. But no stumbling around in the dark.

It was nice being at The Western Club with friends for the ShuffleFest weekend event and not having to drive 45 minutes back and forth. The RV park is directly behind the Steakhouse& Dancehall.

It is a great spot to stay if you're going to the Western Club. It wouldn't be my first choice for a vacation destination though. It is right off the feeder road for Highway 6, but the road noise isn't terrible.

    Stubblefield Lake Recreation Area

    Really nice, wooded campsites

Old campground, nicely maintained. Wooded; big pines. Two restroom/showerhouses; old, but clean. Camped for 2 nights in a camper van at site #24. It was a very large site surrounded on 3 sides by a thick forest of trees & shrubs. Private. Water faucet on site. No electric. The Lone Star Hiking Trail conveniently located in the campground. Nice hike through a thick forest. Canpground road & campsite driveways are paved. Sites have tent pads & appear pretty much level. Sites have a table, fire ring & lantern poll. The road toward the campground is paved, but broken up in places with several potholes. AT&T service is okay, but no T-Mobile service. This campground is great for tent campers, campervans, car campers & truck campers. I don't recommend this campground for large RVs.

Guide to Bryan

RV camping near Bryan, Texas offers convenient access to Texas A&M University while providing rural retreat options within short driving distances. The area experiences hot summers with temperatures regularly exceeding 90°F between June and September, while winters remain relatively mild. Many campgrounds in this region feature concrete pads designed to withstand the clay soil conditions that can become problematic during Central Texas rainstorms.

What to do

Enjoy fishing opportunities: Travelers staying at The Western RV Park can take advantage of nearby water recreation options. The park's location provides good access to fishing spots, which campers mention as a welcome activity. "For those who are feeling tired or have just decided to give up driving, this is a great place to take a little break," notes one reviewer.

Attend events at The Western Steakhouse: Located directly behind the dance hall and restaurant, The Western RV Park offers entertainment within walking distance. A camper describes the convenience: "It was nice being at The Western Club with friends for the ShuffleFest weekend event and not having to drive 45 minutes back and forth. The RV park is directly behind the Steakhouse & Dancehall."

Walk wooded trails: Hidden Creek RV Resort provides natural areas for exercise and relaxation. "Woods with trails allow for walking, with or without the dogs," mentions one reviewer who appreciates the accessible outdoor activity options available directly from the campground.

What campers like

Wide, spacious sites: Brazos Valley RV Park receives high marks for its generously sized camping spots. "Very well maintained, clean, nice big spaces and good distance between you and your neighbor," notes one camper. Another reviewer confirms the spaciousness: "Site was more than wide enough and more than long enough for my total 62 foot rig."

Cleanliness standards: Karstens RV Resort maintains consistently clean facilities that impress visitors. A reviewer states: "What a great RV Park. Clean, great rates. Very good wifi included." Another camper emphasizes: "It's a clean and appealing environment. Their fees are also lower than others."

Level concrete pads: Travelers appreciate the solid foundations for their rigs at many Bryan area parks. At Timber Ridge RV Park, one camper reports: "We were just staying overnight, found the campground super clean with nice level concrete pads. No need to unhook!" This practical feature saves setup time for short-term stays.

What you should know

Reservation timing: Football game weekends and graduation seasons create high demand for RV sites across all Bryan area parks. A camper at Timber Ridge RV Park shares: "My daughter was graduating from A&M and we needed to be close so after lots of research we ended up here. The park was spotless! I will stay here again when the second daughter graduates!"

Phone number verification: Some campgrounds have confusing contact information that requires double-checking. For Holiday RV Park, a camper warns: "The listed number for reservations goes to a different park, same name." Always verify you're speaking with the correct facility when booking.

Dump station considerations: While most parks offer sewer hookups, the positioning may present challenges at some locations. A Timber Ridge visitor cautions: "Spots were nice and level, however, dump hoses slightly uphill on several sites. Need to park as far back as possible to reach utility post."

Tips for camping with families

Pool availability: Hardy's Resort RV Park offers family-friendly water recreation. "There is a really nice size pool with a covered porch area for sitting and a sun/TV room on the other side of the pool area, for lounging; hubby spent time in there watching sports while the kids played in the pool," shares one family camper.

Game nights and activities: Some parks organize social events that appeal to all ages. At Hardy's Resort, a reviewer experienced special programming: "The staff had a game night party and did smores for the kids (okay so I had one too) and sausage wraps for everyone."

Outdoor recreation amenities: Creative outdoor games provide entertainment beyond typical playground equipment. At Hardy's Resort, a camper enjoyed: "Beautiful park, it had 2 ponds and a large grassy area with a gazebo for hanging out, and the cutest miniature life size chess set, yes we played and of course, I won."

Tips from RVers

Laundry technology: Revviel RV Park and other modern facilities increasingly use app-based laundry systems instead of coin-operated machines. A Hardy's Resort guest explains: "The machines didn't use coins they used an app-new technology. Not hard to use just had to download an app and put money on it. The nice thing was the machines let me know when the laundry was ready."

Overnight stop flexibility: For travelers just passing through, some parks offer convenient options. At Timber Ridge, a reviewer notes: "We were just staying overnight, found the campground super clean with nice level concrete pads. No need to unhook!" This saves significant time for those making short stops.

Road noise considerations: Highway proximity affects ambient noise levels at some locations. About The Western RV Park, a visitor mentions: "It is right off the feeder road for Highway 6, but the road noise isn't terrible." RVers sensitive to sound should request sites furthest from major roads when possible.
