Best Cabin Camping near Atlanta, TX

Several state parks and private campgrounds near Atlanta, Texas offer cabin rentals with varying amenities. Caddo Lake State Park features historic stone cottages with fireplaces in the larger units and outdoor grills for cooking at the smaller cabins. Daingerfield State Park provides lakeside cabins nestled among towering pine trees with clear views of the water. Atlanta State Park offers cabin accommodations with access to Wright Patman Lake. Most cabins include electricity, air conditioning, and basic furniture, though amenities vary by location. According to one visitor, "They have stone cottages with a fireplace to accommodate large groups or families or smaller ones for like a couple which have the outside grills to cook on but no fireplace in the smaller ones."

Rustic and deluxe cabins are both available throughout the region, with options ranging from basic one-room structures to multi-room family accommodations. KOA cabin camping is available at Texarkana KOA, where forest-surrounded cabins provide a comfortable alternative to tent camping. As one reviewer noted, "There are a handful of cabins in the back past the store." Pet policies vary by location, with some parks allowing pets in cabin areas while others restrict them to outdoor spaces only. Advance reservations are strongly recommended, especially during summer months and weekends when occupancy rates are highest. The Texas State Park Pass provides discounts on cabin rentals and entrance fees at state-managed properties.

Most cabins require visitors to bring their own linens, pillows, towels, and toiletries. Kitchen facilities range from simple outdoor fire rings with cooking grates to fully equipped kitchens in premium units. Basic supplies like firewood are often available for purchase on-site, sometimes by donation. Brookshire's grocery stores are located near several parks, including one approximately 5-10 minutes from Daingerfield State Park. Visitors staying at cabins should check specific amenity lists before arrival, as even cabins within the same park may have different features and provisions. Cell service is generally reliable at most locations, with T-Mobile and AT&T providing coverage at many parks.

Gavel Falls Cabin Rentals and RV Campground

    New and clean

Kind of an odd location— behind an auction yard. Nice concrete slabs for RVs. Fair gravel roads, 3 very nice log cabins, at least 2 covered RV spaces. BBQ grills and fire pits are brand new. Private pond on site. Because it is relatively new they have a few bugs to work out but I would stay there again.

    CONS

Most FHU sites (other than BIG PINE) are extremely short in length. Barely room for single axle TT, so need to review site details carefully

Site 8 had an extreme amount of above ground roots causing tripping hazard

Picnic table approx 50 feet from Site 8 parking pad

    Highway and train noise

BIG PINE sites barely off campground road, so therefore no privacy from campers across the road

    Some highway noises.

Two PARK HOSTS occupy sites in Woodpecker Hollow. That reduces full hook up sites to 6. One of those sites were used as a temporary dump station due to out-of-service park dump station

Woodpecker Hollow toilet/shower facility needs some deep cleaning

11 windows in Woodpecker Hollow women’s toilet/shower and only 4 were open. Camp host said rest of windows were painted shut.  Floors were continuously wet and slippery. What a mess! This place needs a fan or two.

Gavel Falls Cabin Rentals and RV Campground

Under New Ownership as a KOA

This new KOA is ok for an overnight stop while passing through. They recently completed construction on new concrete pads at the front of the property with a swing, picnic tables and fire pit at each site. Absolutely zero shade which was terrible during this heat wave with 105 degree days.

As a recently acquired KOA the pool was actually attached to the owners old home (he moved down the property to a new home) and the house is now rentable for larger groups. There are a handful of cabins in the back past the store. The campsite has a bizarre single track road in and out that requires one party to pull off into grass to allow another to pass.

If you're looking for all the standard KOA amenities, including jumping pillow or other trademarked amenity, this will do for a night or two.

    Caddo Lake State Park Campground

    Magical state park

Camped at site #63 in the Mill Pond Camping Area - tent area. This site backed up onto Saw Mill Pond - beautiful cypress swamp. Bugs were not too bad. Gravel drive on site. Level tent pad. Water only; no electric. Clean fire ring. Lantern post. Large site, good separation from other sites. Campground is heavily wooded, lots of shade. Campground is clean & nicely maintained. One restroom is at the entrance to the Mill Pond camping area, just off of a day use parking lot. No shower in this restroom. A newer, nicer restroom/shower house is located in the Woodpecker camping area. Quiet campground; no issues. Good AT&T service. Despite saying it's allowed in the campground features list, alcohol is prohibited. Excellent T-Mobile 5G service.

    Cypress Black Bayou Recreation Area

    Great Park

This is a parish ran park that is very well maintained. Security measures are excellent. The park is shaded and all sites are either lake side or almost. There are back-in and pull-through sites. Not all of the park is FHU but they have three pull through dumps. There is a new bathhouse that is very clean and requires a code to be entered on a keypad for entry. There is a small wildlife sanctuary (zoo but no petting) and free roaming peacocks. Good fishing from the docks or by boat. The park is close to shopping, casinos, and restaurants. Love this park.

    Daingerfield State Park Campground

    Your classic camping experience

For folks that went camping in the 70s, 80s, 90s with your coleman lanterns, coleman fuel stoves, and actually camped in tents (as intended)... Daingerfield State Park is the place to be. It gives you the classic nostalgic feeling of camping. Its nestled in the thick pineywoods of northeast Texas - the towering pine trees, lakeside cabins and crystal clear lake all combined bring back memories of a person's childhood. Being in this park makes you feel like that picture perfect family on the packaging of camping products. It is a beautiful park with plentiful trails for mountain biking and hiking. There are multiple campgrounds allowing for large RVs/campers and tent camping. Bathrooms are always clean and the staff is polite and helpful. Fishing is good in this large spring-fed clear water lake - although motorized boats are not allowed, kayaks, canoes and paddle boats are permitted and available to rent as well. The park store is small but has most of your camping basics such as drinks, snacks and tshirts, etc.

All of the campsites have fire rings and the park sells firewood at a fair price and permits ground fires if the county is not under a burn ban. The park also hosts a healthy amount of events such as dances, Halloween in the park, and Christmas in the park.

The town of Daingerfield is a neat little town - only a 5-10 minutes from the park, it provides multiple fast food options, a Brookshires supermarket, gas stations and perhaps the most famous location in Daingetfield - the Morris Movie Theatre. (Cash only $1.50 tickets on the newest movie releases, two auditorium building, great snacks and best of all it is a family run operation. Nightly showings which makes it a perfect place to visit if you're camping at the park for a few days)

Stargazing is also great at DSP.. the park is far enough away from bigger cities which allows for darker skies.

This is defintely one of my favorite parks to go to and in the year I've lived in this area, we've probably gone to DSP at least two dozen times or more. Do make reservations ahead of time, as this park is largely popular and fills up quickly on summer days (day use) and weekend nights (camping).

I highly recommend this park and hope you and your family make long last memories.
