Buck Hall Recreation Area offers a premier location to enjoy the outdoors. It is situated along the Intracoastal Waterway and provides great access to Cape Romain National Wildlife Refuge, 65,000 acres of marsh, tidal creeks and beaches; and Bulls Bay, the coast's best shrimp baiting area.
The area is primarily used for shrimp baiting and fishing. Anglers can expect a huge variety of fish, including bass, flounder, sea trout, snapper, mackerel, swordfish, crab, shrimp, clams, oysters and more. The campground provides access to boating and ocean sailing. Fishing boats and often very large pleasure boats can be seen as they travel the popular Intracoastal Waterway. A long portion of the Palmetto Trail, which leads from the marshes of the ocean to the mountains of South Carolina, is accessible from the recreation area. Most of the trail is unpaved and can be used for hiking, biking or horseback riding, although a few sections are restricted to foot traffic only.
The popular campground sits at sea level, alongside the Intracoastal Waterway. It is part of the Francis Marion National Forest in South Carolina. The campground itself is grassy and open, with very few trees and limited shade.
Charleston, South Carolina is about 30 miles southwest of the campground.

Almost November and the beach is still nice. The campground has a ton of amenities and a warm indoor pool for the kids. We'll definitely be back during th summer.
This was the perfect weekend get away spot. You couldn't ask for more. Easy access, easy hook ups, especially for a 1st time rv'er. Nice, quite and away for all the hustle and bussel. Absolutely amazing!!
The RV spaces really have no shade or trees, so if you like the sun and to be directly off the beach, this place is for you. They have alot of amenities to offer, including a waterpark with multiple pools, watersides, lazy river, kids' play area, mini golf. They have alot going on here for families. The beach has basketball courts, playgrounds, and you can rent golfcarts. It's a very busy with alot of people driving all around. The beach water was so clean and warm. You can also rent trailers or huge beach houses who share the same pool. The area has so much to do, including pirates adventure, Broadway on the beach, and the hangout with the foam party.
Love all the daily activities and amenities. Bathhouse is always clean and staff is helpful.
We as a family have been going to Ocean Lakes since 1998. We fell in love with the experience and as a new couple, we knew that if we could incorporate this type of vacation with our future children, they would appreciate it and enjoy it as much as we have. Our eldest child will be joining us on our trip in October in his camper. We can’t wait to come back!!!
Park is pretty overall but badly aging. Renovated bathrooms are marginal with tons of maintenance issues and not terribly clean. For instance hot water is a challenge and many broken latches on showers and toilet stalls left you exposed. We had one of the ancient spots with shared power pole that we had to use converter to use the remaining 50amp (we only needed 30). Feel sorry if you were a class A rig and needed the 50 and only had 40 left. Site was large but horrible cable connection, and could not use sewer connection as our “stuff” dies not flow uphill. Avoid the back in regular spots. Pay more for newer albeit very clean together patio spots. And sadly a rustic spot like ours was $87/night. The good is you are in walking distance of Myrtle beach, shops, and restaurants. But we were very disappointed in the area either 1-3 star hotels, lousy food, and cheap trinket shops. Beach is ok but there are much better in Florida, Georgia, and Alabama. Like this KOA, maintenance is not a priority for the town or merchants as commercial properties were run down, littered, and many were out of business. Our advice is go someplace else. This area is sad.
This place is fine, really just a circle of sites with hookups in an open field. Pretty trees and sunsets!
3 beautiful pools, a splash pad, lots of activities for kids, homemade ice cream, movie nights!, very clean bathrooms/showers, mini golf, restaurant on site, it’s wonderful!!
Pirateland, Myrtle Beach, SC. It Is All About Close Proximity To The Beach (Scale 1- bad, 5-Very good
(71 yr olds in 17’ trailer with a desire for a campsite that has at least some visual privacy - after the trailer is in the spot.)
Overall Rating: 3.5 - for beach proximity

Reservations: Yes
Campground Noise: Quiet for as full as it is.
Road Noise: Not in he beach area

Pull Throughs: Some
Cell Service (AT&T): Able to call out.
Setting: Open and tight with trailers.
Weather: Beautiful blue sky and warm
Bugs: None
Solar: Yes
Rig size: Large rigs. Look at the pics. Closer to the dunes the more you can hear the beautiful sound of wave action.
Sites: Take a look at the map in my photos. Sites for trailers are colored: grey (sheltered w pad), red (Oceanfront- The ocean is not visible, but the dunes are.), yellow (beach area), purple (not as close to the beach) etc, black and teal have pads.
Absolutely 100% recommend this place. Store: It is one of my top three stores. Offer plenty of games, grocery, apparel, parts, and other stuff. Spaces: Have plenty of space between you and your neighbors. Roughly 2-3 trailer widths between on both sides. Every spot is concrete, pull through, fire pit, and picnic table. Environment: Very friendly!! The lake fun was closed but the puppy beach was not. But there was a hot tub, pool, and kiddie pool. Halloween Celebration: They had an arts a crafts event we did not attend because the kids wanted to swim. But trick or treating was awesome for the kids, adults, and puppies. We briefly went to the Halloween bash but hurried over to go on the haunted hay right through the forest. It was really well done! Bathhouse: There is one but I did not utilize it because I use my trailer. Reservations: Super easy! Military get 15% discount. You can reserve up to 400 days out. Half of it is due at time of reservation and the rest at arrival.
Very overpriced! $100 for a dirt site covered in pine needles and roots making it impossible to level and no sewer. Cold showers, so far to all to everything and the pics for the dog park weren’t accurate at all.. so small I couldn’t even throw the ball for my dog. Check out is 10am so you don’t have much time to enjoy any of the amenities that morning. $140 a night for an RV pad! You can stay at an rv park in the area for half the price with hot showers and all the same amenities right on the beach. I do not recommend
Friendly, fun for the family, food all over for any appetite, beach clean and fun, golf cart parades at night, karaoke, an app to help navigate your fun. Arcade, pizza, funnel cake stand, Golf carts, mini golf. Fishing.
❗️Never get site 947. There is a tree directly in the middle of it❗️
My family enjoyed this campground. The sites are pretty nice for the most part, with a good amount of room. The roads however are pretty tight and a bigger rig could be tough to back in. Our site had very little grass due to the shade which made for a pretty sandy mess, but we have an outdoor rug that helped. The trees kept everything very cool so it was a small inconvenience for how nice that was. The pool, lazy river and splash pad were all very nice and well kept and big enough that we were never super crowded. The lazy river does stay full, but it is pretty good size. The bath house near our site was in good condition and pretty clean. The laundry mat had plenty of washers and dryers and the store had about anything you could need. We didn't do the arcade because it required a game card, but it seemed to have a few games in it. The campground is large enough that a good cart is almost a necessity. We were in the middle of the pool and beach, but really was a walk to either of them. Golf carts run about $330 for the week, but are worth it. The only complaints I have for the campground is the lack of enforcement of golf cart drivers underage. Also, the amount of golf carts on the road can make it difficult to navigate when pulling in and leaving. It was crazy how many people were going crazy on the things. Anyway, not a deal breaker on staying there, just be aware! I think we will be back next year. It's worth the drive from SEKY for a nice place to stay and enjoy the beach for a week!
If you’re traveling with kids, great place. Lots of activities for them. You can find a spot with shade or they have very nice pull through ones that include grills. Not all have grills so if that’s important to you, make sure you double check. Staff is wonderful. Refer to attached photo so you can avoid being placed right next door to the bathrooms. We rolled up and our assigned site backed up to the bathroom building. The staff was super kind and moved us since that’s not our jam. Very close to town and you can walk or bike. They also have golf cart rentals. Internet was horrible. Couldn’t get on. Quiet spot. Bathrooms are typical for a park - clean. Did not use showers but pics posted here.
If you like party vibes, making friends with your neighbors, and staying up late for a drink, this campground rules.
We had a basic inland site with full hookups and a picnic table. The area where inland sites are located has a bunch of trees, we loved the shade and it was perfect for our 22 ft trailer, but I can see a big rig having some trouble navigating.
There’s a pool and a lazy river for when you want to switch it up from the beach, and a general store with camper equipment, souvenirs, and stocked with a lot of things you may have forgotten at home. Decent prices too, not slammin’ deals but didn’t feel like there was a huge mark up on anything. Though we have a shower/toilet in our trailer, the bath houses were a clean and air conditioned alternative. They all had outdoor showers and foot rinsing stations, which were super convenient when cleaning up after the beach.
The beach was beautiful, shallows for a couple hundred yards when the tide was out, and relatively clean for a busy beach. We brought our dog with us, so we could take him to the beach before 10AM and after 5PM. You’re supposed to have them on a leash all of the time, but we found a spot devoid of others and we’re able to let him go to play frisbee in the water. Very dog friendly campground, by the way.
Overall, we loved our time there and are even planning on coming back next year! Again, an awesome campground for outgoing folks looking for a beach party vibe. I would steer clear if you’re looking for something quiet and private.
Very big campsite.
You drive in and there's multiple campsites for your tent, Car or RV.
There's a large clean toilet cabin (not a basic privy).
It's next to a tall tower.
Fire area with picnic table.
My husband and I love ocean lakes. We are from PA so this is quite different than the campgrounds we are used to, but when we go here we go for a week and make a vacation out of it. Beautiful campground with beach access, tons of amenities, and close to all the Myrtle Beach funness. Will continue to go back. We go in September after school starts back up so it's still very warm but not as crazy busy as it is during the summer.
We arrived on a Wednesday night after the office had closed but there was a person available at the gate to check us in. Went right to our campsite and set up for the night, campsite was flat and located right near the jump pad which was great for us. The next few days were nice as well, we had a few hot days to get in the pool and sprinkler area which were all clean and easy to access at the campsite. We walked up to where the playground and Gaga pit were and they seemed nice enough but didn’t stay there long because our children were more interested in the jump pad anyway. It was easy to bike around the campsite and you can rent a golf cart as well. This campsite was close (walking distance) to the main strip (business 17) of Myrtle beach. A close drive to all the Myrtle beach attractions and the beach as well. We visited in April and were very lucky to have hot and sunny weather. The day we left was raining and very cold. Check out was fine, no issues. Compared to some of the other RV resorts in the area, the price was better but they had less amenities for children. I also prefer more dispersed sites and more privacy which I doubt is offered here but was good for a few days. Thank you, we’d return.
Super friendly staff. Great spots but no indoor pool. Sooooo that stinks
Family oriented, clean, fun, lots to do!! Pools, slides, lazy River, huge game room, recreation for all ages, everything you need and never have to leave!!
Old campgrounds but have full hook-ups. Beach side has sandy lots with waist hi weeds around electric poles and water spouts. Clean new bathrooms. The golf cart parade every night is an accident waiting to happen with children driving them and Zero street lights at best and people can't cross from the beach to get back. Pools were nice and Food trucks every night were excellent 👌.
We spent the last week of July 2022 here, last year for mustang week. As anyone should suspect, it was busy. Golf carts are everywhere, as expected, and they seemed to have a golf cart parade almost every night. Despite that, when we were at our campsite (site 788), it wasn’t so bad.
They have 3 different food trailers that come there at different times throughout the week. We ate from the BBQ one and it was pretty good, you get a good hefty portion. We really enjoyed the funnel cake trailer, though we didn’t get a funnel cake lol. I got their deep-fried Oreos, and they were great. Most I’ve had have a ton of batter on them and sometimes isn’t cooked all the way through. I got these three times during our stay and each time they were just right, just enough batter to cover them and fried to perfection in my opinion. My wife got deep fried cheesecake and loved it, said it was rich in flavor. She also got the deep-fried banana pudding and enjoyed that as well.
We used the laundry facility once during our stay. We didn’t have any problems but there were a few washers giving a customer some problems, but a maintenance guy was there quickly and fixed the problem. There isn’t any hot water washing which wasn’t a concern for us. The campground store was sufficient. We used the restrooms a couple times while we were out walking, and they were decent considering how many people are there.
The lazy river and pool are very nice, and we enjoyed those. While there are a lot of people in there during the day, it really wasn’t all that bad, still plenty of room to move around and not feel like your over capacity in an elevator. They have a kid’s sections that looks cool as well.
Our site, 788, was large and easy to get into. FHUs and all worked fine. Did need some minor leveling, it’s sand. Plenty of room for parking. There isn’t a fire pit because fires aren’t allowed. Easy access to the beach.
The staff was very friendly and professional. They have staff on patrol riding around on golf carts. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would come back.
The workers were a joy to be around and very attentive. Our campsite was amazing
Awesome place! Easy access to beach and amenities. Grounds were very well maintained. Sites were well planned.
Very nice park! We had ocean front spot site 695. Spot was sandy and looked a little sketchy to back into, looks as if someone got stuck. We ended up backing up just fine with no problems and pulled out just fine as well. Bathrooms were close and very clean, great water pressure. They pick your trash right at your spot every morning. Had a minor electrical problem, called and they were right there vey quick and fixed the issue. Lots of things to do, Pool, lazy river, splash pad, and kayak/peddle boats. Putt putt cost money but it’s available. Gulf cart rentals as well. The ocean beach is so beautiful and it was not busy. Just a perfect spot. I recommend going to Broadway on the beach for things to do in the area.
We did how ever have family fly in and rented a cabin. Sharon from the office was not so friendly she only deals with cabin rentals so if your here to camp in campground it’s a great place!
We had a great time staying at site 726 on the beach. So convenient to everything. Bath houses were clean. Plenty of family fun activities. Kids on bicycles and scooters did scare me a bit riding around with all the traffic. All in all id recommend
What's not to like. Beautiful, family owned campground. Large spacious and clean well organized sites. Picnic tables and BBQ grills on sites. Pull thoughts. Winery with taste testing hours and wine to purchase. 2-0/30/50 amp service. Dog run, wireless internet, laundry, pool, bath house with oversize showers, covered stage, art gallery/ gift shop, propane, playground, fishing pond, scheduled events.
T-mobile phone and hotspot work well
ATT hotspot ok
