Best Cabin Camping near Catawba, SC

Several cabin camping options exist near Catawba, South Carolina, including Chester State Park Campground and Charlotte-Fort Mill KOA. Chester State Park offers "small clean cabins" with electricity and basic furnishings situated around a scenic lake. A review mentioned that "the bathrooms are clean and updated" with reliable hot water, though "you may have to wait a few minutes for the hot water to start." Carowinds Camp Wilderness Resort provides more developed cabin accommodations with access to amenities like a private pool, game room, and camp store. Most cabins include air conditioning, and many feature private bathrooms.

Rustic and deluxe cabins are both available, depending on the location. Cane Creek Park provides simpler cabin options in a wooded setting near water recreation, while KOA locations offer more standardized cabin amenities. Most require advance reservations, especially during summer months when availability becomes limited. A camper wrote, "We were told they had upgraded us to a pull through site at no extra charge" at Charlotte-Fort Mill KOA, indicating flexibility at some properties. Rosewood Farm and Agripark features a "super cute cabin nestled beside a small pond at the bottom of a hill and surrounded by trees" for those seeking a more private experience.

Most cabins include beds but require visitors to bring their own linens, towels, and toiletries. Basic cookware and utensils are sometimes provided, though availability varies significantly between properties. At military-affiliated Wateree Recreation Area, cabin amenities are more standardized with reasonable rates for service members. On-site camp stores exist at several locations, including Carowinds Camp Wilderness which maintains a "camp store, laundry and camp store." Publix grocery store is located adjacent to Charlotte-Fort Mill KOA for more extensive provisioning needs. Fire rings are available at many but not all cabin sites—Charlotte-Fort Mill KOA notably lacks fire rings at cabin locations.

    Spacious Skies Peach Haven

    Nice campground, lots of amenities.

Overall, this is a very nice, clean park conveniently located to the interstate I-85) and attractions in the area. It has all the amenities you would expect to find at a KOA such as a swimming pool, playground, dog park, miniature golf, store, clubhouse, and more (including goats). It is by far the nicest private campground in the area that we have stayed at.

This KOA has 127 sites offering varying degrees of services to accommodate RV's, tents, and those wanting to rent cabins. We chose a 50-amp full hook-up back-in site but were upgraded to a pull-thru so we could be in a sunny location to mitigate the chilly air. How nice of them! Our site (#79) was perfectly level as were most others (but not all). Water, electric, and cable hook-ups were well placed at the site and worked fine. We paid $37/night(with the KOA member discount). Nice, large grassy area for dogs to walk and sniff and there is a decent size dog park.  Roads and pads are hard packed gravel with grass in between sites. Some sites are set in a wooded area while some are out in the open with plenty of sun and satellite coverage. The park is big rig friendly and the roads are easily navigable. All sites have a picnic table and some had fire pits but ours did not. Cable is included and offered over 50 channels. Wifi worked well at our site.  The laundry was small with three washers and three dryers but very clean and had a decent book exchange. The bathroom and showers were super clean and looked like they were updated recently.

The campground is extremely clean and the owners/employees are super friendly. There is a short hiking trail (less than a mile) through the woods and plenty of green space in front of some of the pull-thrus. playground large swimming pool with large deck putt putt with lots of goat humor.

The only downside would be the closeness of sites but that is pretty much what you expect from private RV parks. Fortunately, we did not have neighbors right next to us which gave us more space. I'm usually not a KOA fan but have to say this one was great for our overnight stay and we would recommend it.

    Cane Creek Park

A Great Place for the Whole Family.

Located just outside historic Waxhaw NC, Cane Creek is part of the NC Soil Conservative Sites. They offer day passes,$4.00 per car where you can launch you kayak canoe or fishing boat. If you like Bass Fishing, they rank as one of the best spots around. They have swimming areas for both day users and one for campers. This really is a gem within Union Co NC. The campground is on the other side of the lake. They have camping for RV’s, Cabin Rentals and tent sites for either large groups or individuals. The hiking trail is beautiful and takes you around the whole lake. Watch for horses, as this is a great place for riders too.

    Charlotte-Fort Mill KOA

Great for trip to Charlotte NC

We came here to do some trailer maintenance and because it is very close to home. We were not expecting it to be a great camping experience, but we’re pleasantly surprised! The staff were extremely helpful and friendly, the campsites were clean, and the bath houses were newly updated and immaculate. The roads in the section we stayed in were a bit rough (a combination of asphalt and gravel), but perfectly fine for camping. Most of the sites have good shade, but unfortunately our site was in full sun. Our site had full hookups, and a picnic table that was pretty rickety. No fire ring. The sites are very close together, and most are back to back sharing a driveway. Personally we prefer a more secluded camping spot, but this KOA is perfect for an overnight on your way to another location, a trip to nearby Charlotte, or like us, utilizing the full hookups for some waterline maintenance.

    Cane Creek Park

    Great clean campground

We have stayed at Cane Creek 2x now and enjoy the park so much. Lake, hiking trails and nice wooded campsites with fire rings and close proximity to bath houses. Playground for kids, little store, friendly staff. Beach swimming area closed due to Covid but looks nice. Park on other side of lake has picnic shelters, more trails, frisbee golf and kayak rentals that will open after Covid. Only problem is that both times we visited there was a storm and power went out for hours. Can’t really do anything about that!

Military Park Shaw AFB Wateree Recreation Area and FamCamp

    Tent camping

Did some tent camping in mid October. Had tons of fun and the park was really clean. Bath houses were nice and had hot water. T mobile service doesn’t work at all, but they have Wi-Fi hotspots for rent for $5 per day. Tent camping was $7.50 per night. The reason for 4 stars instead of 5, was because Quiet hours are supposed to be from 11-7, but there were people partying pretty late. Definitely should’ve brought some ear plugs. A GREAT PLACE FOR PRIMITIVE CAMPINF!

The campground is a beautiful place, lots of trees for firewood. ATV/Walking trails. Picnic tables, porta johns and nature. A small lake where you can fish, It is Peaceful here. There is a gun range nearby so while your here you can get in some practice shooting. A convenient/food store is 1-2 miles up the road, totally in walking distance. A walmart is about 20-30 minutes away. So bring your Solar Panels so you have electricity and Enjoy Primitive Camping.

    Charlotte-Fort Mill KOA

    First time at a KOA

Stopped here for an overnight on our way south. We had a pull-thru full hookup site. It was relatively level but not perfect. Main bath house was under construction and not available. There is a bar, convenience store, and RV service center at the entrance which is convenient. We didn’t have time to look around the campground much but it served it’s purpose for us. Oh, there are no fire rings but it claims on their site that you can build one in the gravel. We didn’t see a single other site with a fire.
