Cypress View Campground — Santee State Park

Small and peaceful under the pines

We stopped heading south and north along I-95 to and from Florida.  Very easy off and on I-95.  Plenty of available spaces in off-season.  The campground is small and quiet.  Camp Host was very helpful. Sites were spaced reasonably far apart but there is no privacy between.  Not all sites have a water view, but most appeared fairly level. Not all sites have sewer access.  Our only complaint was lots of smoke from campfires and grills. Would stay again.

Cypress View Campground — Santee State Park

    Peaceful, good trails

We were at site 46, which is near the entrance and the camp host. Short walk to the bathhouse directly behind. Site has good trees for a hammock and near a path down to the lake for fishing/picnic/swimming. Beware there is a sharp drop off across from the site, so make sure whoever is backing in has a spotter out front.

Nice, no frills, stop over campsite

We stopped here for a night on our way back to Florida. We were on C5 which was a very large pull through and relatively level. We did not even have to bring out our leveling blocks, the auto leveler was able to handle it well. Power was stable and water pressure was good. Only things we did not like is that every site was just dirt and there was not much shade at our site.

    Lee State Park Campground

    Kinda buggy

Lots of sand and gnats and deerflys too. That’s the bad. About half the sites have full hookup some very large sites. Whole campground very wooded ( no Starlink here). About 3 bars cell with Verizon. Pretty neat campground with lots of history. The bugs are seasonal.

    Palmetto Shores RV Resort

    Great stay but needs maintenance

Such a beautiful location but price doesn’t match the upkeep. If you pay resort style prices (in which you do) you shouldn’t have to work on shower heads in the bath house… Shouldn’t be grime and rust built up in the stalls and shower. Should spend money on repairs for sure. Everything is outdated. However, it is a nice location.. Campground was a lot of fun and a lot to do. If they could just clean it up and do some maintenance I wouldnt mind the 90 dollars a night

Cheraw State Park Campground — Cheraw State Park

    Peaceful and uncrowded

We recently returned from 5 days tent camping at Cheraw. We chose site #8 that was directly on the lake and offered electricity and water. These sites are obviously designed for RV’s with little or no space for tent campers. Although there is a designated tent area, it is back in the woods and not lakefront.

The minimal room we had was fortunately on the lake shore with wonderful shade trees.  The space was not level and contained some unfriendly exposed tree roots. Fortunately we had an inflatable air bed and the roots weren’t much of a problem.

Lake Juniper is quite small and swimming is allowed in a designated area on the far side of the lake. We had inflatable rafts and tied our floats to a tree in front of our site , highly aware that a spillway not too far from our site would prove quite dangerous if one went too close then pulled over.

The small office on the opposite side of the lake offers ice and wood as well as ice cream, candy etc to satisfy any junk food craving. 10 minutes from the park is an IGA. It offers the basics and a little further out is a Walmart with groceries.

The bathhouse is currently “ under construction” although we saw no work being done during our stay. One half of the bathhouse had been designated unisex with three locking stalls and curtained showers. There is an interior lock if you choose to have the entire bathhouse all to yourself. I grew up in a family of eight and have no problem sharing a bathroom. The bathhouse has obviously seen a great deal of traffic, is quite dated and poorly ventilated. Hopefully the bathhouse will receive its update soon.

The campground host was quite helpful and an all around nice guy. We chatted a bit and he has a very interesting background.

We would return to Cheraw and confidently reserve #7 or #8 for tents. There are most likely other suitable sites there that escaped my notice.

    Cramped RV parking lot!!

Stay was nice. Very crowded and was a one night stop for many many RVs!! Roads are very tight!!! Nice place on the lake but not for an extended secluded stay!

Cypress View Campground — Santee State Park

Huge Park , nice wooded sites.

I chose the lakeside tent sites section. I wish I knew that the Cypress side was open to tents also. It is much further from I-95. I can clearly hear roadway noise from this side. I visited the other side tonight and it is a much greater diatance from the highway and faces away from the noise. It is more popular over there so tonight, I have more isolation here. Good for tents all tbrough park.

    Santee Lakes KOA

    Nice, last minute overnight stay

My wife and I spent one night here out of necessity but would definitely return to actually visit and relax. It’s right on the Santee lake and even though we didn’t have a lakefront site we could still easily see it from ours. We didn’t get to just walk around and check things out but the staff were very friendly. I did use their restroom and it was clean. We did like how there were many birds active and chirping, there were some squirrels, we love all the critters.

It’s right off I-95, getting to it is simple. It can be a little tight in some spots but anything should be able to get through where your rig will fit. Our site did require a good bit of leveling. Plenty of water pressure, will definitely want a pressure regulator.

They serve Hunt Brothers pizza from the office. You can call and place an order, they’ll charge it to your card on file if you’d like, they’ll even deliver it to your site. And the pizza was phenomenal!!

Overall we were pleased and would be happy to visit again.

Cheraw State Park Campground — Cheraw State Park

    Worth a stay

Cheraw state Park was an overall good camping experience. We stayed in the tent camping area, which was well kept. My only complaint is that the sites are somewhat close together, but it's not a huge deal. Park is well kept and the sights are worth seeing. Plenty of trails to walk down, with a boardwalk that covers the side of lake juniper.

    Excellent campground

Stopped on our way back from Florida. Lots a little uneven, but it's a small price to pay for lakefront sites with water and electric. The campground host was very helpful too. Mountain biking and fishing was a blast

    Great family atmosphere

I have been going to this campground since I was a kid. I always enjoy it. I started taking my nephew a few years ago and he loves it too. This past month we had a big group with us for their first time and they want to go back.
