Managed by the Bureau of Land Management within the campgrounds just outside BLM Land — Medford Grants Pass Field Office, Almeda County Park sits along the Rogue River in Merlin, Oregon, where it serves as a well-known put-in point for the wilderness section of the river. The layout is open and exposed, positioned between the main road and the river with little natural separation between sites. It's a large campground. Reviewers estimate it can hold well over 200 people, and on busy summer weekends it tends to fill with fishing boats and river-launch groups.
River access is the main draw here. Anglers and paddlers return regularly, and the camp host has historically kept firewood available on site. Nearby, BLM Rogue Wild and Scenic River provides additional access points along the same stretch of water, and Rocky Riffle sits roughly a mile south for those who want a quieter alternative. Campers who come for gold panning, swimming, and fishing report returning in multiple seasons, from summer heat through heavy rain.
Expect no cell service. AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile all lose signal along this river road corridor, so plan accordingly. Laura M. notes it was "dusty and crowded and loud" during a September visit, which reflects a pattern worth knowing before arrival. Amenities include pit toilets, picnic tables, and trash and recycling service. The campground is ADA accessible and accommodates rigs up to 100 feet. Reservations are available, which makes sense to use during peak river season.
