Forest Road 960 by Pacific Crest Trail PCT

Camping conditions on Forest Road 960 are excellent with multiple dispersed sites available. The area features spots with lovely views, especially for those who venture to higher elevations. Many sites have established fire rings scattered throughout the area. The camping area offers wide-open skies, making it ideal for stargazing and solar power setups. Weather conditions vary seasonally, with October temperatures reaching mid-60s°F during the day and dropping to around 40°F at night. The fire roads are well-maintained and easy to navigate.

While the main Forest Road 960 is relatively easy to navigate, vehicle requirements depend on which camping spots you plan to access. Standard vehicles can reach the basic areas, but 4x4 or high-clearance vehicles are definitely needed for the spots located higher up on the rocks. The road to the top involves a steep climb, but there is ample room to turn around once you reach the end. Some campers have successfully pulled 15-foot trailers up using 4WD vehicles.

There are no developed water sources available at the Forest Road 960 camping areas. This is a true dispersed camping experience, so you'll need to bring all your water with you for drinking, cooking, and cleaning. Plan accordingly based on your group size and length of stay.
