The campground features several spacious sites, many of which are tucked away among tall trees, providing a nice bit of shade. Visitors have mentioned the nearby creek, which adds a soothing sound to the atmosphere, and there are plenty of trails for hiking or exploring on motorbikes. As one camper noted, “The campsites are large and easily accommodated our truck and small Scamp trailer.”

While amenities are limited—no restrooms, water, or trash services—this can be a plus for those looking to escape the hustle and bustle. Reviewers appreciated the peacefulness of the area, with one stating, “It is quiet nestled in old growth forest.” Just keep in mind that this is an old Forest Service campground, so you’ll need to come prepared for a more rustic experience.

There is no such place as Douglas, OR

Hamaker Campground has been abandoned for nearly 10 years and is now "free dispersed camping" without any improvements. There are no bathrooms.  There is no host.  ODFW is not present here.  To call it Douglas, OR is untrue!

Great Dispersed Campsites

We stayed here in May of 2021. It was still a little early for camping in Southern Oregon so it was a bit chilling but it was still great. The campsites are large and easily accommodated our truck and small Scamp trailer. There were about a million trails for easy hikes (or motorbikes, etc) and beautiful meadows a stones-throw away. The camp itself had plenty of large trees for shade (and fallen trees for firewood). I think it's the Rogue River that runs through it but it's so small compared to down river that it's hard to tell. I can't wait to go back to the beautiful seclusion we found here.

Hole in the woods

Camped here July 1 & 2 2022. This is actually an old defunct Forest Service campground. There are still visible sites and fire rings that people have established but no toilets or water. The 10 or so sites are nicely spaced and level with trees seperating them. About half of them are adjacent to a sream. There were a few mosquitos but not terrible. There is a 9.5 mile trailhead nearby. Said it went to a west crater.. but not sure which crater it was referring to. Crater Lake is too far away I think to be referring to that.

There was no Verizon signal. The nearest usuable signal was about 12 miles back towards Diamond lake. I would say this is a very quiet campground except.. this is an OHV area.. meaning Off road (hwy) vehices are allowed. During my stay the evenings were quiet but that could depend on the manners of the other folks who may be there with 4 wheelers.

Quiet

This was a forest service campground with restrooms and water. Now all amenities have been removed! They even removed the sign. It was a bit tough to locate as I was looking for the sign ! We did locate it and glad we did. It is quiet nestled in old growth forest. The rogue river flowed to east side of it and there are trails for hiking. It is not maintained so there are some low hanging limbs there are 10 spaces and did I say quiet. Very quiet
