Description
Perched atop the high-desert lava country of southeastern Oregon, this open pullout along Coffeepot Crater Road sits on BLM land near the edge of the Jordan Craters volcanic field, with unobstructed 360-degree views and genuinely dark skies for stargazing. The spot is fully exposed — no shade, no wind shelter — and the surrounding terrain is as remote as it looks on the map. The approach from the south and west is rough enough to warrant serious consideration: sharp lava, deep mud, cattle gates, and a road that occasionally fades to near-nothing demand a high-clearance vehicle and patience; the northeast route is considerably more manageable.
