Great weekend with families at site 1

We came to Heavener Runestone Park with three families and nine young children and had the BEST time! Totally worth the drive from Tulsa. The park is beautiful and secluded, very clean and well kept. It has some really fun little themed touches in keeping with the Viking Runestone. The history around the Runestone is so interesting, the kids loved hearing about the Vikings. The hiking was beautiful and just challenging enough to be fun while accessible for little kids. Bathrooms were clean and easily accessed from our tent sites. The views were spectacular. Out of the three cliff tent sites I would say only 1 was safe for kids, 2 and 3 were too close to the cliff (beautiful views though). The playground was really fun and right by site 1. It’s a big site so we put four tents and 15 people on that site comfortably, it also has a covered pavilion which helped us in the rain and a brief storm. The park hosts were incredibly kind and welcoming. One last note, you do need to bring your own drinking water in. We had such a great time and would totally recommend the park for adults or families. My only complaint was the persistent barking dog on the private residence by the entrance to the park, including late at night.

Hidden Gem

We were the only ones tent camping. They have showers and a separate restroom near the campsite - the showers are locked for campers only but the restrooms are public. The site had a nearby pavilion and running water. Hiking trails are fun and well marked. Heavener is near a train refueling station, so you’ll hear a lot of trains.

Heavener Runestone State Park in

The View is spectacular! The host is very nice and the bathhouse is clean. We didn’t get a chance to do any hiking. I’m sure it would have been beautiful. There is only one site with electricity for RV hook ups.

Heavener Runestone

Came here for a day trip and had fun. There is an awesome hiking trail that takes you down into the valley and to the runestone itself. There are multiple tent sites and a good playground. Also a great view looking down to the bottom of the hill. We didn’t camp but the sites looked like most start park facilities.

Great for Winter Camping

We stayed here for one night in late December. It was a Sunday and we had the whole campground to ourselves. The hosts were friendly and helpful. All of the sites looked nice, but ours was especially beautiful. It was fairly easy to pull in and out in our Rav4, though there isn't a paved drive or pad. It smelled amazing and the ground was covered in a thick bed of pine needles. There's a really fun little trail that runs from the campsites down to the runestone.

The restrooms were single person, clean, and well stocked. There were several day visitors using the little playground and picnic tables, so I imagine it would be pretty busy and probably a lot less peaceful in the warmer seasons.

Views from on high

Really great vistas from the upper overlook. We stopped to see the runestone on our way back home from camping at Lake Wister. Wooded and clean, with a small gift shop (closed when we got there). Tent and RV camping available, which we didn't look at, but don't think big trailers and buses would fit; ours is an 18-footer, and was questionable at that! Really cool trek down to the runestone, but would highly recommend good walking shoes or boots, for it's a steep, rocky path with lots of small, deep steps and very few handrails or barriers; some areas are wet. Trail is not handicap accessible. There are a couple of benches along the way to stop and catch your breath and admire the rock formations. Donations taken for the runestone walk at the box outside the gift shop. Camping prices are reasonable.

Great find

This was a great find for my son and I put on a long weekend stay. The staff at the camp were great, kind, responsive, and very helpful. The price is fantastic. The facilities are very basic but good. We will definitely be going back.
