Very Nice Place

We went camping in June during the strawberry Moon. We are tent campers, we booked site 185. But once we got there we discovered that the site was slopped down from the pad and not a great place to tent camp. So, we had to find another site. They were booked so we had to cut our vacation short because the only site open for us was reserved for the following weekend. Bummer! There are not alot of spaces for us tent campers no matter where we go. We have to at the least have electric hook ups cause my better half has a CPap he has to sleep wearing. They did have a few premative sites for tent campers. Camp is very well maintained and they are having some construction done on many sites to make them bigger, full hook ups and even Handicap accessable. Great place to ride a bike, or hike or just go for a walk. The shower houses and restrooms were recently redone and in great shape! Though the shower heads could use a changing. Weekends were a bit crowded, but by sunday night the place was cleared out and the rest of the week was quiet and relaxed. Over all a great week. Friendly and helpful staff too. the only issue I had was the state of the Beach, trashed(People there didn't seem to care about throwing their trash around. Shame on them! Also, the sand was so compacted it felt like concrete. Not the best beach. Fishing, well. It seems we didn't have the low down on good fishing spots. All of the public fishing spots were of course taken and along the dam so not great. Lodge is beautiful, and they are doing some construction there. I did not like the food. Guess I am too picky, but when my salad comes out warm and my chicken is cold I do have an issue with that. Didn't seem like they were taking food safety too seriously.

Thanksgiving Weekend

We decided to camp on Thanksgiving weekend. The weather was very mild and the camper was very quiet.

Our site had a pretty level pad and could fit our small camper easily with room for our vehicle. The site itself is big - it’s got a lot of room for tents, an ez-up and plenty of space for chairs. It sits deep and there’s a little trail in the back.

Two shower houses were still open, clean and not far from our site. All of the comfort stations were closed for the off season.

We saw deer, heard coyotes and even saw a flying squirrel one night - really cool.

We ordered pizza from a local shop and they delivered. The lodge is close enough to go get food too.

Nicely kept State Park

Deer Creek SP is conveniently located between Cincinnati and Columbus. Bath and shower houses have been updated and were kept clean. Some sites are shaded while some are in full sun. Was a nice quiet place to relax for a weekend.

Snagged a good site!

We were trying to fill an empty weekend and found this one! Plenty of room on the pad and level. You have a lot of trees in between you and your neighbor and the site is deep. Lots of room for tents and hammocks. The sun chases you a little but you can always find shade. There is a short walk to a comfort station and the shower house is just a few more steps. Both were kept clean even in this busy park. It was hot so we didn’t venture out for a hike, just a walk around the campground. There are two playgrounds and a nature center.

Nice but small!

The sites in the park are nice but small. There are no full hookup sites for those with bigger campers. The park has plenty to do, swimming at the beach or lodge pool, frisbee golf, horseback riding, hiking, boating, etc. Most sites have shade and hedge roe between your neighbors which is nice. Only one dump station though, so plan accordingly.

Nice park and a good first run for our new much bigger rig

We took our first trip in our new 39’ travel trailer to Deer Creek.   The layout of the campground is nice and I had no trouble navigating to our site or fitting the rig in.   Our site was electric only but there are water taps throughout the campground for filling our fresh tank.  We were even able to stretch a hose to one of them from our site for a refill after being there a few days but it was about 100’

Sites are pretty nice size and decently spread apart but they were not as level as pictures on the reservation site made them appear.   Also, we were camped beside my sister and her husband but there was a pond behind our site and people continually walked through our site on the way to the pond.

The beach area required a drive from the campground but it is a very nice beach and there is a very pretty picnic area near the dam.

We came pretty well stocked up for our visit but did not notice a lot of stores in the area.   We did, however, enjoy Tony’s Coneys and a local farmers market while we were there.

Valentine's Weekend Get-away

As we drove through the campground we noticed that sites were not plowed, but by the time we got ours, it looked like it had been plowed ahead of time. We brought a shovel just in case and it helped clear off more of the pad. The snow was deep so we shoveled a path to our ez-up and to our fire ring. The site was perfect in the winter as the two sites directly behind us were not reservable at this time. Note to you - you'll be sharing your back area with two other campsites so I hope you have friends booking those sites as well or I wouldn't recommend this one. We have a small camper, so the pad size isn't a huge deal for us, but our camper and truck fit on it nicely. We were right next to a shower house which was clean, had hot water and heated. There was a camp host available if needed, but we didn't see him much. The park itself is large and has a good trail that will take you to the lodge. We snowshoed on some of the trail and all over the campground. We even ordered the Valentine's dinner from the lodge and they let us pick up to eat back at our site. It's a great park to visit in the off-season. There were only maybe six other sites booked that weekend.

Small, but perfect site for us

This was a last minute reservation and only available due to a cancellation. The campground was full for the weekend. The campground is pretty big with different types of sites. Some are smaller, close to neighbors while other have seclusion with trees. From past experience, if it rains, some of the sites do flood. We had great weather this weekend. The site we reserved had a hill right next to the passenger side/door side of your camper. If you had a big camper, it might be tight to open your slides and an awning. You most likely would not sit right outside your camper door. In fact, the fire ring is behind the site and up a small hill. We set up our ez-up in the back and out of the way, it worked for us. There was also a path that led you into the playground. Speaking of playgrounds, you will hear a lot of kids if the weather is nice. We were right across from the camp host (very nice lady) and very short walk to the bathhouse. The bathhouse had 4 flushable toilets and I think 3 showers. The showers did not have benches in the stall, only on the outside directly across. With a full campground, the bathrooms were kept very clean with the amount of people using it. We walked around and noticed a lot of bathhouses and another playground. We took a hike that led us to the lodge - it was an in and out and just under 5 miles. On our way back we stopped at the camp store which was well stocked with items you may need or not. There is a putt putt course, frisbee disc course, horse trails, dog park, nature center, golf course and more trails nearby. There are plenty of things to do if you like to keep busy or are trying to keep kids entertained. (The bees and stinkbugs were out and about while we were there.)

Nice Campground with mix of tent and rv sites

Deer Creek State Park Campground is aptly named. There are deer all over and you can see them from many campsites...though we haven’t seen any deer tick yet. There are many heavily shaded sites and another side is fairly open. Many sites off the main road have hills you need to go down to set up a tent. Comfort Stations (read flush toilets) are usually close by and several Shower Houses are scattered throughout the grounds. Shower houses are in great shape and have plenty of hot water but only 3 showers per house and are fairly small. Campsites are mixed in sizes. Some are great for a small group (3-4) to camp together and have a common area while others are pretty spacious. We are in 109 and have plenty of privacy and overlook a small fishing pond. Nothing close by so pick up any gas, groceries or snacks you want before you get here. Nice place and we’ll definitely come back.

Good State Park with some nice private sites

This park is easy to get to before dark (fall & spring) and provides a great weekend getaway. It features large back in sites that were perfect for our 30ft travel trailer and decent bathrooms that could use some updating.

The park overall is nothing special as the trails are flat/boring and there are few activities for adults aside from the lake. The dump station is small and hard to navigate come Sunday morning when the line is backed up through the campground.

Not my Favorite

The site we had was really nice and large. The down sides to this park the is rowdy crowds. There was loud music and lights flashing well past midnight at several camp site. It was not a holiday weekend just a summer weekend. We also went out to explore some trails but they were not clearly marked and I had trouble navigating them. Overall not impressed and will not go back. I will say the lodge was nice and if we did have a reason to visit this area again we might just stay at lodge vs campground.

Love it!! We were by the “secret” fishing spot

We had a lot of fun. Spot was big. Shared open space but that family stayed on their side and we stayed on ours. We had woods behind us and raccoons and even a deer came to visit us. My husband and I stayed up till 4 am just enjoying the wildlife. The deer was in the grassy area beside us and the raccoons were in the woods behind us. Brave little suckers came up and stiles my marshmallows right in front of me. They did not try to attack us or anything just wanted our snacks. Lol. Oh and the best thing is there’s a spot to the lake just one space down to go fishing! We’ve been there twice and only had one hit but it’s peaceful. Lot 162. Also if you scope out the area there’s several public fishing spots between the campground and the beach. Look for them during the day!

Last minute site

We made a last minute decision to camp for one night so most sites were taken. By the photo on the website Site 25 looked good. The site had partial shade, was next to a campground host and bathroom/shower house. The site itself was nice if it hadn’t rained a few days earlier. It was a mud pit. We pulled the picnic table out of the mud, it hadn’t been mowed and we couldn’t use the fire pit. But...other sites that weren’t flooded or muddy looked great. We would go back for sure. You can’t control Mother Nature.

What an outdoor lovers dream! Boating to fishing to disc golf you will not get bored! Enjoy a few hours or the day hiking one of eight trails or all of them. If you have horses take them out on the two loops especially for them. Lodge, campground, cabins so many options. The campground was clean, quiet and serene. Only electric at the sites, but 2 of your favorite fur babies are welcome.

"Secret" Fishing Spot

Between lot I believe 166 & 167 is a trail to go down to a small spot. Probably enough room for 2 small families or 1 large family to fish. It was perfect for my husband and 2 kids between 9pm to 1am to fish because no one else was there. They only caught a fish or two but they liked the experience and time together. It is a little of a trek down a small hill and we were careful but got my mother in law whose 70 to the water as long as we hung onto her arm. It is pitch black so bring headlamps or/and lanterns oh and mosquito spray! We liked it so much that we are going again and getting a site close to the fishing spot so it’s just a short walk to it!

Beautiful huge campsite but no shade

I loved our camp site we had it for one year loved it! Huge lot, private and shade. It was simply the perfect lot because sometimes we had two tents and or like to play corn hole and other games and need space. But we went back in June and July 2018 and we about died! It was so hot and miserable because they cut down two of the trees that gave us shade. Now it the perfect spot with nooo shade. We tried buying the canopies to give us artificial shade but it didn’t help. It was truly awful during the day. The kids went to the beach but my husband, mother in law (70) and I stayed at the site. Although it got so bad we either went to a store or sat in the truck with the A/C. Now when the sun started setting it was again perfect. We had a fire, played outdoor games and it is private enough you don’t have to worry about your neighbor listening to your conversation. The bathroom is right behind the site but far enough that there is no smell or foot traffic from people. We had 2 active dogs and it is perfect for them. Although I will not go back in the dead of the heat again. It would be a perfect spot for cooler months. We stayed in lot 140. Oh btw there is a “secret” fish spot by site 166 with a trail to walk down to the water. It’s about a 8 min walk from our site 140.
