Within the Sweetbriar Lake State Fish and Wildlife area, Sweet Briar Lake campground provides multiple camping loops around a fishing lake just minutes off Interstate 94. State Fish and Wildlife manages this drive-in facility where campers find fire rings, picnic tables, and pit toilets distributed around the shoreline. Sites range from lakefront spots to areas set back from the water, with good spacing between individual camping areas.
The campground operates on a first-come basis with no check-in process required. BigRed Overlander O. found it "spacious, easy and the cleanest pit toilet I've ever used," noting the lakefront loops offer the most desirable sites. Highway noise from I-94 carries across the water, though most campers report it doesn't interfere with sleep. Fish jump regularly in the lake, and wildlife sightings are common around the shoreline areas.
Fishing draws many visitors to the lake, while the boat launch accommodates small watercraft. A small playground sits near the launch area. Water spigots are available at select locations around the campground, and dumpsters handle trash disposal. Cell coverage works well for both AT&T and Verizon users according to recent reports. The facility allows pets and campfires, with alcohol permitted on-site.
Access roads from the interstate are well-maintained and signed, making navigation straightforward even after dark. Large RVs can maneuver the roads and find level sites, though there are no hookups available. The campground sees light use on weekdays but can fill on summer weekends. North City Park sits about seven miles west for those needing an alternative. Generators provide the primary power source for RV users requiring electricity during their stay.
