Simple Life Mountain Retreat & Campground

Simple Life Mountain Retreat & Campground sits on a steep hillside in Robbinsville, North Carolina, where leveled parking spaces accommodate RVs up to 20 feet. This private campground caters primarily to motorcyclists exploring the nearby Tail of the Dragon on Highway 129, though all campers find welcome here. The facility provides full hookups including electric, water, and sewer connections alongside amenities like hot showers and WiFi.

The forested property operates on a compact footprint with limited sites that stay consistently busy during peak seasons. Multiple reviewers emphasize the importance of calling ahead for reservations. Molly A. notes "this well maintained campground is on a steep incline with leveled out parking spaces." Despite the motorcycle focus, the atmosphere remains surprisingly quiet, with one camper observing that "actually motorcycle clients very quiet."

Owner Alan serves as a walking directory for the area, helping guests navigate local attractions and road conditions. The campground maintains clean facilities with consistently hot showers, though campers should bring their own cooking grates for the fire pits. Sites closer to the front tend to be quieter than those up the hill near the bathhouse. For additional camping options in the region, visitors can explore campsites near Robbinsville.

Many campers appreciated the clean, well-maintained sites and consistently praised the friendly, responsive owners. Hot showers and good amenities were frequently mentioned positives, with most finding it quiet despite the motorcycle focus.

Seeking Solace After Tail of The Dragon

As we are not locals to the Smokey Mountain Area, we found ourselves on what we NOW know is The Tail of the Dragon… a high speed, seemingly endless curvy beast of a road with sports cars and motorcycles. We thankfully stumbled upon Simple Life Camping and Cabins. Alan greeted us right away and was able to fit us in last minute and accommodated our 21ft motorhome before dusk. He is basically a walking directory for the area and has all of the amenities. Highly recommend taking a different route than HW 129 if you are wanting to cruise or if you have a large vehicle/motorhome.

Great place to camp & find solace!

The simple life indeed!

I came here for a car meet weekend and was incredibly happy with my stay. The owner has wonderfully dry sense of humor and he’s just about the sweetest person I’ve ever met. Some sites have electric, there’s plenty of water spigots and the showers are nice and hot. This well maintained campground is on a steep incline with leveled out parking spaces.

Great location !

HOT nice shower, close to town and the Dragon! Cabins have heat and air and some have bathrooms. Glad I brought my own grate for campfire cooking. Did not take a lot of pictures.

Clean, quiet, easy access to the area's things to do

I stayed this past weekend in the Butterfly Patch cabin. The cabin was spotless and comfortable  The picnic table, fire pit and park style grill were all well maintained. Owners were friendly and responsive. We were up the hill (steep one) from the bathroom facilities. I'd stay here again.

Steep and Cheap

Nice place. I’d definitely go back. It’s clean and priced well for the area. The people that run the place are awesome. It’s ideal for motorcycles but they’re welcoming to all campers. It’s a small place with limited space, but everyone has enough room. I’d call ahead at least a few days. They seem to stay busy.
