I’ve camped at Petersburg multiple times of the past 5 years and generally love it. Bartram Trail, terrific mountain for biking and hiking passes through the property. Some of the sites are stellar.

What I noticed on my most recent trip is that the quality of maintenance has declined. The restrooms on our loop weren’t really cleaned deeply over our 4 night stay with used band aids in the corner or the shower stall. I alerted two staff members about the leaking spigot in our site and that was never addressed.

I’m returning in early November with a few friends for some mountain biking and hope things improve.

I love the location for proximity to both Brevard and Asheville. The sites vary in their ability to accommodate larger rigs, so be mindful of that. I have a pop up and had to get creative to fit it into site 8. There are two loops. One has a restroom only and the other (back loop) has showers as well. Bathrooms and showers weren't the cleanest, but were ok. There is no mobile phone service in the campground.

A terrific night on a Saturday with spring like weather in July. Well kept and clean with attentive hosts. 

An easy drive from Atlanta with fantastic views.

Can be tight for larger RVs.

We scored a nice site (27) in Loop 1 on a first come, first serve situation on a Friday afternoon, The site was great for tent camping and would accommodate a small camper

Pavement in the campground is a bit worn, but shouldn't hinder getting around with any kind of vehicle. The road to the campground from Lakemont/441, Lake Rabun Road, is very narrow and has some tight curves so be aware of this if you have a camper or anything larger than a Sprinter van.

The campground hosts were friendly and helpful.

I've camped at Shady Grove multiple times and each experience has been great. I live nearby and it's a great oasis to quickly escape the rat race in metro Atlanta. 

Originally built by the US Army Corps of Engineers, it's now operated by Forsyth County Parks and Rec. They're doing a terrific job of maintaining and upgrading the campground.

Very good to excellent mobile phone reception. Supermarkets are 10-15 minutes away.

I stayed this past weekend in the Butterfly Patch cabin. The cabin was spotless and comfortable  The picnic table, fire pit and park style grill were all well maintained. Owners were friendly and responsive. We were up the hill (steep one) from the bathroom facilities. I'd stay here again.

Very pretty and well maintained. Bathroom facilities were clean and in excellent shape. Firewood is available for sale at the campground host.
