Deep River Campground And RV Park

Stopped here after our fiasco with holly bluff. Beautiful campground with trees. Very quiet during the day and peaceful. The only thing we found curious was the vehicle in and right back out activity between 10:30-pm and 1am back and forth to campers that were long term stays. Made nighttime hard to sleep in site 3 with vehicles back and forth for hours .

Deep River Campground And RV Park

New Owners, making lots of noticeable changes for your enjoyable stay

Looking for a nice place for a camping getaway? We highly recommend checking out the Deep River Campground in Asheboro, NC. The location itself is beautiful. It is literally on the Deep River and features a hiking trail that runs along the river past the remnants of a historical damn, where a small area of rapids gently swirls around the big rocks spanning the river. There’s also a large lake with a nice grassy expanse for picnics, playing games or just lazing around lakeside. This campground has been around for a while, but it has new owners now and they are breathing some for real new life into the place. They have already made lots of repairs and improvements, and you can see more in progress. There are sites for RVs with all the hook-ups, and great primitive sites for tent camping, several located right on the river. If you don’t have an RV and sleeping on the ground doesn’t spark joy, they have a few small rustic but nicely-appointed cabins. You’ll find two pools, several covered picnic shelters, a playground for the small ones, and several options for older kids and adults to play, like a horseshoe pit and a nice game room. They also have planned activities like movie nights and weiner roasts most evenings to entertain and create community among campers. They are pet friendly and have their own pet mascots on site— a flock of ducks including beautifully colored teals and mallards. We were just there for 2 nights, but I have a good feeling we’ll be visiting there again soon. Definitely worth a visi

Crosswinds Campground — Jordan Lake State Recreation Area

      Quiet, clean, spacious

The sites are very large, long and wider at the back, plenty of room for a big group or family. The bathrooms look new and they are clean. Here during the week so it's very empty and quiet.

      Fayetteville RV Resort & Cottages

Pools, Putt-Putt & Plenty of Room to Play

Sometimes you pull into a campground expecting little more than a comfortable place to sleep and discover the kids have already made tomorrow’s plans before you’ve even finished setting up, and Fayetteville RV Resort & Cottages was that kind of happy surprise for our family. Tucked into the countryside of Wade just minutes from I-95, this beautifully maintained resort combines spacious, mostly shaded RV sites (including enormous pull-throughs accommodating big rigs) with cottages and enough green space that it feels remarkably removed from the highway. Families are especially spoiled here with two swimming pools, mini golf, a playground, walking path, fitness center, clubhouse, clean restrooms and showers, laundry facilities and dog parks, while full-hookup sites with 30/50-amp service make Mom and Dad’s life considerably easier too. One of my favorite memories was watching the boys bounce between swimming and miniature golf until that wonderful end-of-the-day exhaustion finally set in, leaving us to enjoy a quieter evening together back at the campsite. Some campgrounds are where you sleep between adventures - this is one where convincing the kids to actually leave becomes the adventure. With the resort offering numerous long pull-through and back-in sites rather than one clearly superior campsite, I’d choose one of the more shaded sites away from the busiest activity areas if your family values a quieter evening. We would enthusiastically recommend Fayetteville RV Resort for families because it’s exceptionally clean, wonderfully convenient and packed with enough kid-friendly recreation to turn what could easily have been an I-95 pit stop into a genuine family camping getaway.

Crosswinds Campground — Jordan Lake State Recreation Area

      Great Camp

We visited Crosswinds campground at Jordan Lake State Park on the worst heatwave of the year. The great thing about this area is that the sites a well shaded. We were about 50 yards from the lake, with the wind blowing we still were comfortable all day. We stayed on Loop A, which is my favorite loop at the park. There’s no electricity or water at the sites. There are water spickets throughout the loop with potable water. The site is awesome! There’s a small pond beside it. The neighboring sites are close, but regular conversations can not be heard.this loop is always quiet even when there are a lot of people, but it’s never been full when I’m there. I didn’t do good with photos except for the food.

Crosswinds Campground — Jordan Lake State Recreation Area

      Crosswinds Campground July 2026

Decent campground in a beautiful location along Lake Jordan. Crosswinds Campground is one of several sites on the lake. We chose this location since the gates stay open all the time, while other sites have a curfew that can lock you out for the night.

The staff are super friendly and helpful. There’s apparently a camp host whom we never met and they’re on the site next to ours (not sure if they’re supposed to greet us or help us get acquainted with the site, but the staff member at check in was great and did all that when we arrived).

Loop C is quiet, very few children, and less road noise compared to the other loops, but doesn’t have the same access to the lake.

Site C50 is conveniently located close to the bath house, has a large fire pit with adjustable grill, picnic table, and hookups for water and electricity. We’re in a tent, so really just use the electricity. The picnic table here should be replaced, as the wood seems to be rotting, but still does the job. There are a few sites in loop C that do have direct access to the lake, but those tend to be booked all of the time. We explored one last night and couldn’t believe it was vacant and how much nicer it seemed.

Bathrooms are not as clean as I would like, but I bring disinfectant wipes to wipe the toilet before use. Showers are fine, but use an annoying motion sensor to turn the water on/off. Showering at night is annoying with the bugs because the bathhouse is lit like a beacon (probably for safety). Waiting for the daytime is a better experience. Also, there isn’t a washing station for dishes, and we do that at our site.

Firewood can be purchased by the staff at the campground entrance; however, the exact same firewood is almost $4 fewer at a Refuel station down the street. Definitely stop into that gas station store for things you might need.

Overall, really good experience staying here, some annoying things, but won’t ruin your stay.

      Smith Lake Army RV Park

      Tidy, very well designed, basic

It’s not scenic or particularly private, but it’s clean, well designed, and pumping out shore power to combat the Iowa humidity

      Morrow Mountain State Park Campground

      Great scenery and bathhouse

I don’t have any complaints about this campground! Sites are nice and feel like you aren’t close to anyone else. Very pretty area, quiet. Newest bathhouse I have ever seen at a state park! Awesome showers.

    Guide to Southern Pines

Southern Pines sits in the Sandhills region of North Carolina at approximately 560 feet elevation, characterized by sandy soil and longleaf pine forests. The area experiences mild winters with occasional freezes and hot, humid summers that make water-based camping activities particularly refreshing from June through August. Average summer temperatures reach 90°F while winter nighttime lows can dip into the 30s.

    What to do

Fishing opportunities: Several campgrounds near Southern Pines have well-stocked fishing ponds and lake access. At Pine Lake RV Resort, campers can enjoy catch-and-release fishing. "The park is clean with a lake to fish in and hiking trails that you can go explore," notes Patrick F.

Military history exploration: Located near Fort Bragg, camping in this region provides unique access to military history. Smith Lake Army RV Park offers proximity to military installations. "Camp Ground is quiet and well laid out. Facilitaies are clean and maintained. Lake was open and fun to play in," shares Greg B., adding that "Camp ground is next to airfield, you might get Helicopter nosies from time to time."

Hiking trails: Raven Rock State Park offers extensive trail networks for day hikes. "We hiked in from the parking lot too one of the canoe in sites on the river. I loved all the trails, mainly the one that goes from the campsite I was on to the river where there is natural waterslide," says Sarah L., highlighting the diverse terrain options.

    What campers like

Quiet camping environments: Many campgrounds in the area provide peaceful settings away from busy highways. Morrow Mountain State Park Campground receives praise for its tranquility. "Great place to camp! Quite, clean campground," notes Debi G., highlighting the serene atmosphere that many visitors seek.

Community activities: Some campgrounds organize regular social events. "We really liked the 'Meet Your Neighbors Happy Hour', they really wowed us with this event. It ends early enough that you can still have a quiet evening around your camp site," shares Steve K. about Fayetteville RV Resort & Cottages, which also offers Saturday morning waffle breakfasts.

Yurt camping options: Southern Pines area offers alternative lodging beyond traditional cabins. Though less common than in western North Carolina, yurt camping near Southern Pines provides a distinctive glamping experience. "For the adults they have a nice workout center with lots of equipment," adds Steve K. about facilities that complement the varied accommodation options at Fayetteville RV Resort, which includes yurt rentals.

    What you should know

Seasonal considerations: Camping is available year-round but facilities vary by season. "It's winter so, the lake and amenities aren't available for use. But, they look great and you can fish inside the rec area, just not from the Campground," explains Clean Slate D. about winter camping at Smith Lake.

Membership requirements: Some campgrounds operate on membership models. "Very nice! We are now members. Grounds are very neat and well kept. Bath houses have a little age on them but are clean," shares Todd C. about Sycamore Lodge, which offers free camping for those who take their tour.

Bathroom facilities: Quality and availability of bathrooms vary significantly between campgrounds. "The bathhouse for this area has two toilets and two showers. Each is completely private. There are outlets and sinks in all four. There is also a very nice sink and counter on the end for dishwashing," reports Rebecca about Moonshine Creek Campground.

    Tips for camping with families

Kid-friendly activities: Several campgrounds offer programmed activities specifically for children. "This is a great family campground. They have activities all day for the kids and family. They are still under construction but you can't tell," explains Josh Q. about Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park in Asheboro.

Swimming options: Many families prioritize water recreation during summer months. "Small, but really nice. A lot of sites right on the water. Lots of trees, really quiet. Nice boardwalk and nature trails nearby, with rental gear available," describes John about Cheraw State Park Campground, which features a designated swimming area.

Wildlife viewing: The region offers opportunities for children to observe native wildlife. "We were lucky enough to catch a great view of Jupiter merging with Saturn last night. Super cheap. We stayed four nights for under $100," shares Sara M. about Cheraw State Park, adding that the "spacious sites that feel nicely private surrounded by evergreens which is a nice relief in winter to see trees with leaves."

    Tips from RVers

Site leveling challenges: Some campgrounds require additional effort for RV setup. "The only down sides are that the sites are pretty packed close together, some trailers seem run down and abandoned, and there is a rooster that goes around that will attack," warns Patrick F. about Pine Lake RV Resort, though he still recommends it as a "great place to get away."

Full hookup availability: Several campgrounds offer complete utility connections. "Site was clean and lots spacious. Dual hookups for sewer connections. Nice water pressure," notes William Scott R. about Sycamore Lodge, which provides electrical, water and sewer hookups at most sites.

RV size considerations: Not all campgrounds can accommodate larger rigs. "This campground is very clean and quiet with lots of things to do... The only down side is it can be hard to get larger trailers in and out of the park and into and out of some of the sits," cautions Shahaliegh B. about Pine Lake RV Resort.
