"This is a nice, small RV park located beside a marina just outside the gates of Camp Lejeune. There are some permanent sites, tiny homes, and everyone is very friendly. You can fish off the dock."

Nice Campground but no Beach
Flanners Beach Campground is a quiet, well-maintained spot that works well as a base camp for visiting New Bern, Beaufort, and the Crystal Coast. Campsites are generally shaded with some privacy, and the campground offers electric hookups, a dump station, clean bathrooms, and a few private showers. While the waterfront setting is appealing, views of the water are mostly blocked by overgrowth and the main beach/river access remains closed due to erosion, which limits on-site activities. There are still nice trails, wildlife, and limited shoreline areas to explore, and occasional jet flyovers from Cherry Point add local character. Overall, it’s a peaceful and decent campground, but knowing about the beach and facility closures ahead of time helps set expectations.

Catfish Lake Site 4 - Croatan National Forest
Little pulloff with a camping area in the woods
This is an awesome area in the Croatan National Forest. This is the 4th site on the road around the lake. We stayed here for a weekend and loved it. A little bit of traffic but not too many people coming through. This site has a pull off that you can park a couple of vehicles on the side of the road and a little clearing/path that you can put a tent up near your car.
There are 3 other sites around Catfish Lake on Cat Fish Farm Road.

Catfish Lake - Croatan National Forest
2nd site on the road
This is an awesome area in the Croatan National Forest. This is the 2nd site on the road, there are 3 other sites around Catfish Lake on Cat Fish Farm Road. We stayed here for a weekend and loved it. A little bit of traffic but not too many people coming through.

Croatan Puddle - National Forest Dispersed - Pringle Road
Free NF Site - Half-hour from the beach
Not a bad site for a couple of days. Close to the beach in the Pocosin Wilderness and free. We stayed here beginning of April while checking out Emerald Isle and Carteret. The national forest roads in this area have a few other sites that where closer to the road. This one is a little more secluded and the big puddle is from people driving through a small creek. Lots of birds in the area but we didn't see any other wildlife.

Beach activities: Onslow Beach Campsites offers direct beach access for military ID holders. "This is absolutely one of my favorite places to stay! It is right on the beach, a little store is right there for your convenience and there is plenty of space for walking, riding bikes, etc," shares Megan A., who appreciates the secluded nature of the base beach.

Quiet off-season camping: Winter camping offers less crowded experiences. "I camped for 14 days at this location in January. The campground was fairly quiet. The few campers were very quiet and respectful to the other campers," explains Robert D. about his experience at Cedar Point Campground during the off-season.
Paddling opportunities: White Oak River access provides kayaking and canoeing routes. "Beautiful water ways open for canoeing and kayaking. The camp spots are a little close together but being right off the water is worth it," notes Natalie B., who enjoyed the water access at Cedar Point despite the proximity to other campers.
Military base amenities: Base facilities enhance the camping experience for those with access. "My favorite military campground, ID necessary, and a great spot for family time. The intercoastal waterway is right there, as well as the beach and a military shopette. We have found many shark teeth on the beach," shares Paul R. about Onslow Beach Campsites.

Weather considerations: Summer heat can be extreme, especially at exposed sites. "There is no heat or air or even a fan in the bathroom or showers, so again, pretty miserable on this stay as the area had heat advisories every day.
