The water is visible from the pier, and on clear evenings the sunset over the Neuse draws attention. One reviewer noted the dock was "picture perfect as the sunset over the Neuse river," though another was candid that the shoreline is "marshy mud, not sandy beach." That distinction matters if waterfront access is a priority.
On-site, the campground runs a full slate of amenities: two pools, a playground, a bounce pad, gem mining, horseshoes, gaga-ball, kayak and bike rentals, a fish cleaning station, two fenced dog parks, and a dog washing station. Anglers have options, with catch-and-release ponds on the grounds and river fishing from the pier. The bathhouses were rebuilt after a recent hurricane and consistently draw praise for cleanliness and climate control. Sites accommodate RVs up to 128 feet with full hookups.
Site spacing is the most common complaint. Standard sites are close together, and at least one reviewer found they couldn't open their awning without it crossing into the neighboring site. Upgrading to a deluxe site is worth considering for anyone who values breathing room. Trains run on nearby tracks day and night, which is worth knowing before booking. Cell service from AT&T and Google Fi worked for at least one visitor, though on-site WiFi drew mixed feedback.
The campground's location makes it a practical base for exploring New Bern, with its historic downtown, Tryon Palace, and the Pepsi Cola Museum within easy reach. The KOA is open year-round, but summer fills up fast. Reservations are strongly recommended, and booking a deluxe site in advance gives the best chance of a less-crowded stay.

A catch-and-release fish pond and a group-outings pavilion round out this haven for extended relaxation. The kids can enjoy our playground with a jump pad & swing set. New to our campground is our Gem Mine and Gaga Ball. Browse the many antique shops and boutiques in North Carolina's second-oldest city. Step into the past at Tryon Palace Historic Sites & Gardens, the former state capitol, historically regarded as the most beautiful public building in Colonial America. Pool: May 1 - October 1.
