Black Mountain Campground sits in the shadow of Mt. Mitchell, the highest peak in the eastern U.S. and borders the South Toe River. Black Mountain is a mecca for the outdoor enthusiast.

The nine-site family campground is open from May 1 to October 31 with full facilities. Each site is equipped with a grill and picnic table. Restrooms for use during warm seasons are located nearby. Showers and hot water are not provided.
Pack-in camping
Campers may leave vehicles in the park overnight to backpack into the Pisgah National Forest. Visitors who leave their vehicles in the park must register on the forms provided at the trailheads near the parking area or at the park office. Leave the form on the dashboard of your car. Mount Mitchell offers a choice of trails from which to enjoy the nearby alpine woodlands.

Table Rock State Park is known for being a perfect glimpse into the scenic bliss that South Carolina's Highway 11 is known for. Most prominent to the park is the towering mountain Table Rock, where the park earns its name. This also serves as a backdrop for the 3,000 acre park, and its numerous camping facilities. Below this section of the Blue Ridge Mountains, visitors can enjoy Table Rock State Park's cabins and campground, as well as lakes and various hiking trails located within.
The Table Rock State Park hiking trails weave through mountain streams, babbling brooks, and rushing waterfalls to the tops of Pinnacle and Table Rock mountains. The views here showcase the entirety of the region, and shouldn’t be skipped if you’re planning on visiting. That said, while the park is well known for its natural features, Table Rock also has its place in history.
For example, the park’s hiking trails host the access point for the 80-mile Foothills Trail, one of the most famous in the Midwest. Hikers often use this trail to travel through the extensive network of SC state parks. These trails date all the way back to the Pioneers who would use them as trade routes and for homesteading. In fact, many of the Table Rock State Park cabins and other structures built by the Civilian Conservation Corps remain standing and are on the National Register of Historic Places.
This park is unique in that it is one of only 16 South Carolina state parks built by the Civilian Conservation Corps. Moreover, there is even a historic CCC-built Lodge available for weddings, receptions, meetings and other special occasions. Additionally, the park features 2 park lakes: the 36-acre Pinnacle Lake and the 67-acre Lake Oolenoy.
94 standard campsites for tent or RV camping, plus 14 renovated cabins provide ample accommodation to visitors. Aside from the larger lakes, there is also an old-fashioned swimming hole complete with a high-dive that is open during the summer season. We visited this park a few weeks ago and wished we could have stayed longer! It's a well-kept, clean park within approximately half an hour from Lake Lure (where Dirty Dancing was filmed). It is an adult only campground that is dog-centric... For us the best of both worlds! Includes several dog parks for large and small breads, and a pond in which the pups can swim and splash around. We've never been to a park like this one and highly recommend it if you can get in. We'll be back for sure!
LegendLOVE !!! 4 Paws Kingdom. The owners are a hoot and have some awesome originality and PR skills! Went here for a Sisters son The Fly event, though I had heard of it before. You can rent a camper, cabin or yurt or bring your camper. BEST of all, all have a fenced in yard for your pup! Then there’s the multiple fenced dog areas. Our favorite was the double pond area. The Boys Loved it! Lake Lure is nearby and Chimney Rock, the whole area if excellent for hiking, shopping and whatever else you want to do.

We've stayed in the newer section of the Park several times now--each time, a different experience: waterfall hikes in Dupont, a segment hike to finish off the Foothills Trail, nearby mushroom hunt dayhikes around the lake, incredible climbs to impressive vistas. A recommended destination that always satisfies--whether you love to backpack, dayhike, camp or glamp!

Honestly a very nice place, clean and well maintained. Very different than what we are used to, we would call this "glamping, but it seems to be the norm in the area. The staff was extremely nice andx accommodating to our needs. Sites were very close together, but also seemed to be thge norm. Only drawback was the guy weed eating the creek 10 ft from our site pelting us with weeds at 8 am while we cooked breakfast.

We did a company retreat at the Yak Eco Camp and were amazed at how private the location was. What's more, it was so expensive around town and at tourist traps, we were happy to have the property to retreat to and have an HQ for our entire group. The host mentioned many more amenities coming to the property that will surely make this the most desirable glamping spot for all mountain bikers, hikers, etc. in the area. They're adding a huge sauna, cold shower and much more to cater to all ages.

Just spent the weekend here and loved it! Great place for kids with jump pad, swingset, slides, climbing dome, pool, a creek to explore, hiking trails, and more! We planned to explore the area (Chimney Rock, Lake Lure) but ended up staying the entire time in the campground. Just a beautiful new place, very relaxing. We will definitely be back! Would be a wonderful place to plan a group trip due to the variety of accommodations (RV sites, treehouses, remodeled campers, pods, tent sites, etc.).
TravelerWe camped at Emberglow campground for a long weekend the third week of April 2022. The campground is amazing. We all had a wonderful time. There was a combination of Camping trailers, and one family rented a Tiny House. The house was beautiful. The bath house and bathroom facilities at the campground were pristine. They were completely tiled and very clean. There were multiple activities for children including a bounce pad, playground and ball pit. The swimming pool was lovely and scheduled to open the next weekend. There are also tent sites available. Some of the RV sites had outdoor kitchens with sinks and propane tanks. Each site had a picnic table and fire ring. Our site had a gravel base. The close proximity to Chimney Rock and Lake Lure is an added bonus. The owners and staff were very friendly and helpful, but unobtrusive. I highly recommend Emberglow Campground.
GuideWe took our camper to Emberglow for its maiden voyage. We were straight from the Camping World in Hendersonville. We picked the best place for our first trip. Emberglow is amazing! The pool is the best I’ve been to at any hotel. It isn’t a large campground so the pool wasn’t busy. The bathhouses were amazing with granite countertops, tile floor and walls, along with a beautiful mural. We have since realized that is not the norm in other campgrounds. We were a little spoiled since this was our first impression of camping. Our son enjoyed the jump pad and playing in the creek. There was a volleyball court that we didn’t get to enjoy and they were in the midst of building a playground. A nice dog park was on site also. We can’t wait to return! It was only a 10 minute drive to Lake Lure & Chimney Rock for eating out and exploring.
GuideThis was a great little spot away from the hustle and bustle of the highway. Very close to Chimney Rock and Lake Lure. Pool was clean. Arcade on site. The office has almost anything you could think of so you shouldn’t have to leave. You may want to bring any Meats and veggies for cooking but other than that it is almost like a small general store! Cabins up the hill away from everyone if you wish to be slightly secluded. Small Black Bear wandered up and stole some burgers we left in the cooler and came back later to say hey and check up on us so be aware and keep your food under lock and key. Tried to get a picture but he ran as soon as he saw us moving. Overall a great experience. Wish the bathroom facilities were updated. Not a bad price for the overall experience. Had the white noise from the creek to keep us dead asleep at night.
TravelerThis place was a 13 hour drive and so worth it. All of the cabins and trailers available to rent are so reasonably priced and have AC and fully fucntioning appliances. Every cabin or RV rental has its own private gated yard with your own firepit. Several dog parks and a private pond for the pups means days of fun for an active, social dog. Everyone is so kind, the women who run this place are so sweet and they were incredibly accomodating. The camp store has tons of treats and necessities for dogs and people, and a dog washing station and laundry are available communally. We spent our days hiking the nearby Chimney Rock and hanging around Lake Lure (FYI Dirty Dancing was filmed here whoa). We also checked out the Equestrian center which was an awesome recommendation of the staff and also dog friendly. Definitely recommended for people who like day hikes and adventures and coming back to a cozy camp cabin.
GuideWe camped here back in August and had a blast! We brought our two dogs and they also had a great time. This site is very dog friendly (obviously), with many sites having their own fenced in yards. We opted for a site without a fence, which we regretted once we got there. The gravel at our site was painful for our dog’s feet and they had a hard time walking on it. The dog parks made up for this! There are multiple large dog parks located at the campground. The restrooms were awesome, but are single person use only. We felt like we were the only ones using them (that’s how well maintained they were). Campsites are close together but we didn’t mind. The staff was great, they helped us find our site and even helped us back our camper in. There was power and water hookup at each site. There is tons of stuff to do around the area too. Chimney Rock and Lake Lure are right around the corner and SO FUN.
RangerWe had a lot of fun at our glamping campsite. The gorgeous tent was on a platform and included a large bed and decorated interior. The site had a campfire ring and was close to the bathroom. The platform had some chairs and the campfire wood was there for us.
I did have a bear encounter on my way to the bathroom during the night, but we both just backed away slowly. This was actually the experience that made me pro-camper with a bathroom lol.
The camp host arrived shortly after we did to check in on us and to give us the lay of the land. He fortunately also came around the next morning when our car battery was dead and gave us a jump.
The best thing about Lake Powhatan is the the nice hike around the lake and the fun little lake beach. It’s the perfect size for kids. Plenty of people also seem to enjoy the biking, but it’s a bit uphill for me and there can be a fair amount of cars.

RangerThis is an absolute top-notch campground. It just opened in the spring of 2020 and I can already tell this is going to be a very popular place.
First, the staff is incredible. Everyone is friendly, helpful, and goes out of their way to make you feel at home. The owner was onsite every day and checked in on us several times.
The camping options are very unique and diverse. They have your typical RV sites (all full hookups) and tent sites, all of which have green space around them. Our site backed up to a beautiful stream with some trees for hammocks and shade. The tent sites are clustered together next to a stream in the woods, providing tons of shade on hot days. Nearby are a few treehouses that you can rent, similar to old school sleep-away camping cabins. Around the corner from the tents are several vintage RVs, many from the 50s, that have been completely renovated with beautiful interiors and modern updates. They each have their own deck, fire pit, and grill. My mom stayed in one of these while we were visiting and loved it! There are also camping pods - basically an igloo shaped cabin that is good for a couple people. Yurts are just up the hill from those, alongside two beautiful tiny homes that are some of the most unique campground rentals I've ever seen. Book these early - we were here in late June and they were already full until October!
The amenities are very nice as well. There is a resort style pool with built in seating almost all the way around. It's next to a pavilion area with picnic tables, corn hole, a community fire pit, outdoor movie screen, and performance stage. Nearby is an inflatable jumping pad and volleyball net. I spoke with the owner and he has plans to add many other game such as bocce ball as well as complete construction on a playground and wooded play area for kids. You can also rent many campground games at the camp store such as spike ball and ladder ball. More hiking trails are being added, and a large dog park made exercising our pup easy.
Oh and the wifi is off the charts for a campground. Total coverage everywhere you go. I was getting 30/30 speeds at my site. I work remote so it was very important to have good internet, and Emberglow did not disappoint here! They obviously invested heavily in a quality network infrastructure and it shows.
The location is nice - off the main roads so you get plenty of peace and quiet, but only 20 minutes to Lake Lure and Chimney Rock. It's easily accessible from Charlotte, Asheville, and Spartanburg, SC.
Every campground owner needs to come take a look at this place. This is what campgrounds should be aiming for - clean, modern, lots of nature, friendly staff, good prices, and fun activities. Spent two nights and three amazing days at this privately owned campsite. This campsite is in the mountains so be prepared for amazing views and a steep drive up to the office to check in.
We stayed in the Pavilion and loved it! We had a bit of a climb down the mountain on a well kept path to the river. There was a nice shelter to put our tent and a fire pit on a small front. The river was calm and swimmable. You could here the rush of the water At night while sleeping. So dreamy.
They have the most amazing cabins and glam ping sites if you are not looking to pitch a tent. All of which are so cool! The campground was but bigger than it appears on their map and just so fun. I spent one morning just hiking around the campgrounds. I felt like a kid again!
The hosts were awesome, helpful and so friendly. It was like staying at your friends place.
The bathrooms were incrediably clean and well kept. Showers were outdoors but private. So nice and plenty of hot water.
Hot springs is one of the few towns the Apelachian trail goes right through so it was cool to go into town and see the shops and restaurants.
There are actual Hot Springs in town so don’t miss the chance to visit them.
Laurel River was a great place to cool off and only a few minutes drive from the campsite. The watering holes were plenty and amazing.

GuideI really wanted to love Lake Powhatan, it’s so close to Asheville and I thought it would be my go to place to stay when I wanted to visit friends there but the staff was rude and there were so many loud groups at night. I had a prime site with lots of space between myself and my neighbors and an easy walk to the bathrooms with hot showers. Dogs aren’t allowed in the small lake but there are tons of streams along the trails they are allowed in so that was perfect for my senior dog to cool off. The trails were crowded with people and mountain bikers but conveniently located to the campground. Along the streams there were tons of these tiny blue butterflies and I saw a young bear stroll past my campsite one morning, just magical really. At night people showed up late slamming car doors and partying at several sites, some that I could hear weren’t even on my loop and it was a bit frustrating. I also had a very uncomfortable interaction with one of the men working their (who didn’t make it clear he even worked there) who basically restricted my movement for several minutes and then accused me of trying to steal from the glamping sites because I was driving around checking out where I might stay the next time. I was so uncomfortable I packed up to leave right after and the people at the site next to me said they had issues the previous year with the staff, really unfortunate when you are trying to relax in nature. They and I emailed the campground about the incidents with no response from management, I will not be going back.

This is one of North Carolina’s best waterfall parks. Rainbow Falls, Turtel Back Falls and Bust your Ass Falls. The Visitors Center has free parking for RV’s and Vans theirs numerous primitive sites and I found a Gem of a site about 2 miles from the parking lot.

GuideBe prepared for an encyclopedia of reading all the rules. I found the yurts and cabins to be way too close together for any type of privacy. Maybe they have it set up that way for big groups to come in at once? But it was so noisy with kids and dogs echoing in the valley, and we could even hear the neighboring cabins talking while sitting around their campfire. I suppose if I was there with a group of close friends it would be okay but it seems with all the land they have that they could have given each person more privacy in their spaces. One more thing that may help is we hiked all of the trails and noticed in several places there were 3-4 inch protrusions where small trees where cut down but not cut all the way back to the ground and I almost sprained my ankle. They all did spray paint some of the roots and had the trails nice and cleared but the exposed ends of the small trees throughout the trail are a real hazard. I’m super fit and have good eyesight and hike a lot so I was able to dodge many of them but I’m sure the kids and the older adults may get hurt. Other than the close proximity of the cabins/yurts/RVs and the exposed tree stubs I think they have a great concept (for large group events) and we enjoyed our stay. One more thing the shower handle falls off in the small yurt.
TravelerStayed here for the weekend and Emberglow hosted a 5K. It was a great time. Great family campground. All camping sites are gravel so make sure you have some leveling blocks. They also have yurts and tree houses that look like a blast as well. Definitely will be back.

The little town of Hot Springs North Carolina is a charming little place with several good food choices and an excellent brewery. The campground sits right on the French broad river which is beautiful and wide. Lots of river rafting opportunities and tubing in the refreshing river. Campground sites are adequate bathroom facilities and showers are spotless. Fantastic place to visit and go to the spa and sit in the natural hot spring water.
