Cedar Island Ranch

Half a mile south of the Cedar Island ferry terminal, Cedar Island Ranch spreads across open sandy terrain where the Pamlico Sound meets the North Carolina coast. This established campground provides both RV sites with full hookups and tent camping areas, with some sites positioned just 15 feet from the water's edge. The property features direct beach access along a white sand shoreline.

Sites include picnic tables and fire rings, though Brooks L. notes "not every site has a picnic table and fire pit so you have to find those for your site before they are taken." The campground offers full hookups for RVs, but campers should plan for extended utility cords since hookup locations vary by site. Basic amenities include restrooms, showers, and a dump station, with WiFi available throughout the property.

The location serves as a convenient staging point for Ocracoke Island ferry trips, with the terminal directly adjacent to the campground. On-site activities include horseback riding with gentle horses suitable for children. A small store and restaurant operate nearby. Road conditions within the campground can be challenging, with reviewers mentioning ruts in the dirt access roads.

Cedar Island Ranch works well for campers seeking a quiet coastal stop before ferry travel or those planning extended stays to fish the Pamlico Sound. The open terrain provides limited shade, making it better suited for RV camping or visitors comfortable with exposed tent sites.

Many campers appreciated the quiet beachfront location with convenient ferry access and reasonable pricing. A common theme was tight sites and outdated facilities, though utilities generally worked well.

Beautiful Area

This campground was great. They have horseback riding on grounds and the ferry to Ocracoke is literally right there. Bath house older but clean. There’s a small beach and store. Staff was outstanding. Only complaint were the ruts in the dirt roads. They need filling in. And don’t stay near trees because the mosquitoes were awful.

Great access to white sand beaches for $30/night

I'm tent camping. The lady in the welcome center was in a rush to get out of the building and go work in a next-door diner so she didn't have time to answer any questions about this campground. I paid $30. There's a beautiful place to walk my dog along the water. White sand beach. The site itself has hookups if you need them. It has a picnic table, a fire ring and plenty of space for my vehicle and tent. I'm about 15 feet from the water. Nice view.

Ferry convenient, awesome horseback rides, no signs!

Convenient campground located next to the ferry to get to Ocracoke. Great place for a quick stop before you head over to the island. The science are pretty tight. Amenities are slim. There are no signs for the office or to get in the campground. We took a horseback ride and had a great time. Horses were pretty gentle great for kids. The guide was a little rough.

Also definitely not a resort like the name may suggest. Maybe 30 years ago?

Peaceful and Quiet

If your looking for things to do, this isn't your place. If your looking for peace and quiet, somewhere to relax this is definitely a great place. There is 1 restaurant near the campground amd that is it. Theres a gas station a mile away that sells some grocery items. This place isnt for 16 & 17 yr olds. My 17 yr old was quiet bored a lot but my husband and I loved it.

Great beach access!

Lots are a little tight but the location to the beach makes it worth it. Not every site has a picnic table and fire pit so you have to find those for your site before they are taken. I really enjoyed seeing the horses.

Hidden Gem

One of my favorites campsites! I have stayed twice, once in peak season, and once in off season. Hidden gem on the journey into the outer banks. Beautiful views, beach access, horses, ferry to Ocracoke, restaurant/bar, and VERY reasonably priced.

Convenient place to stay

This campground is very quiet, but close to the ferry and great food. Power and water are convenient on the sites and dump station is accessible on the way out. Baybreeze has great food across the street and the ferry is right next door.

Spur of the moment camping trip

We decided to go camping early one morning and we wanted to stay near the beach. We enjoyed our one night stay. Restrooms/showers need to be updated. There aren’t many shaded sites but again you are camping almost on a beach! We will be back!

Never got to stay

Had reservations there. Needed to cancel since ferry is shutting down and don’t need to be in the path of a hurricane in a 20 ft trailer. Too bad. Keeping your deposit. I get that they can’t control the weather. Neither can I. Not like I canceled because it might rain a little. Not the way to treat people. Won’t be including this place in my future travels.

End of the county campground, being improved, secluded

This is a place nice to stay- if you want quiet. You can fish in the Pamlico sound, take the ferry to ocroake, rent their horses to ride or boats. Need extra long sewer, water and power cords. Utilities are not in a convenient location. Very sandy location. Coins to keep the camper clean
