Smith Point County Park

Suffolk County operates this bayside campground with full hookups for RVs up to 50 feet, plus tent sites accessible by vehicle or boat. Reservations are available year-round, though residency restrictions apply. The facility provides electric, water, and sewer connections along with restrooms, showers, and a dump station.

Sites overlook Great South Bay with direct beach access requiring just a short walk over the dunes to reach the Atlantic Ocean. Most campsites offer bay views, though seagrass can obstruct sightlines from certain spots. Patrick C. notes his motorhome "backed up to a raised balcony overlooking the bay" with the ocean "less than 100 feet from the front of our site."

The campground lacks shade, which means early wake-ups in tents during summer months. Sites sit close together with limited privacy between neighbors. Deer frequent the area, and an on-site general store includes an ice cream window. Multiple reviewers mention clean bathroom facilities, though some note the social atmosphere continues late into the evening with campfire gatherings.

Corner sites provide more space, with sites 30-70 offering the most direct water views. The campground serves as a base for both bay and ocean activities, with Fire Island National Seashore located nearby for additional coastal exploration.

Campers regularly cited the exceptional beachside location with bay and ocean access, clean facilities, and scenic sites. Some visitors reported noise issues and mixed staff experiences, but most found the unique beach camping experience worthwhile.

Lovely campsite

Truly great spot. Amazing sites with plenty of room, though they are close together. But was worth it for the amenities and fantastic views. Stayed on the bayside (site 30), which had a fantastic direct bay view. Although most sites have views of the bay, some are blocked by seagrass (for example site 28 - huge corner spot but the flat spot to park has an obstructed view). Literally steps to the beach.

Paradise

Our 36ft motorhome backed up to a raised balcony overlooking the bay. Less than 100 feet from the front of our site was the beach and the Atlantic Ocean view. A stones throw away was one of several shower and rest room buildings. Clean and well lit. Our site had a trex picnic table on a cement patio. An on site firepit was cozy at night. A general store, complete with an ice cream shop window, on the grounds was a treat. And sweet deer. I watcheda momma deer nursing two of her babies. This is paradise.

FANTASTIC!!!!

Camping on the beach with all the amenities. At nite an ice cream truck comes by, you get visits from the nearby deer. It is paradise. ONLY DRAWBACKS, 1- YOU HAVE TO BE A RESIDENT OF SUFFOLK CO, NY 2- ONE WEEK STAY AT A TIME. PERIOD. After staying there, you'll wish all campgrounds were like this.

Great park for beach

Stayed at site 12. Sites are great overlooking the bay. Bathroom lights are bright. 10 would be better. I also like the corner sites as they are bigger. The 230-70 overlook the ocean which is great. Little pricey compared to nys parks. Electric and water is nice for pop up.

Beachfront Camping

Great first experience. Had onsite bathrooms and showers that were clean. 1 minute walk over the dune to the Atlantic ocean. Will definitely be back. (Only have it 4 stars because I don’t have anything to compare to)

Perfect except for one thing

The park police are a bunch of over masculine jerks and take their duty a little too far with the drinking. Otherwise, it’s perfect. Just make sure to bring a can of bug spray!

Beautiful

I love this campground! A short walk from the ocean to the bay, both accessible by walking from your campsite. No shade so be prepared to wake early if you’re in a sweltering tent. Staff has been great, no complaints. Also note this is not a quiet campground, campers stay up late drinking by the fire. Kids of all ages are generally running and playing day and night in the loud and unreserved way they do. People are friendly and its a great place to spend your summer nights.
