Set along the shores of Lake Champlain, Cumberland Bay State Park Campground occupies a peninsula location that puts campers just 2.5 miles from the Canadian border. The campground features large, grassy sites with many positioned to take advantage of shade trees, though reviewers note the main access road can present challenges for some visitors.
The 106-site campground accommodates RVs up to 45 feet with full hookups available, while tent campers find ample space on the expansive grass areas. Lake access drives much of the activity here, with a designated swimming beach, boat launch facilities, and kayaking opportunities drawing visitors to the water. Meag F. notes the "beautiful bbq area by the beach and the view from the beach is amazing." The campground includes a playground, volleyball court, and recently updated bathhouse facilities that multiple reviewers mention as notably clean.
Summer months bring higher occupancy levels, particularly on hot days when the beach becomes a focal point. The location serves as a practical base for exploring the broader Champlain Valley region, with Montreal, Burlington, and Lake Placid all within driving distance. For additional camping options, visitors can explore places to camp around Plattsburgh.
The campground operates from May through Columbus Day, with reservations recommended during peak summer weeks when families gravitate toward the waterfront sites.
