Within Apache National Forest, Armijo Springs Campground operates as a free US Forest Service site with five picnic tables, fire rings, and vault toilets. The campground lacks trash service, requiring campers to pack out all waste. Cell service is nonexistent throughout most of the area, though some visitors report limited connectivity by moving down the access road about 100 yards to find clearer sky for satellite internet.
Elk occasionally pass through the forested sites, and an active spring with tank provides a water source during wetter months like May and June. The campground accommodates RVs up to 17 feet based on recent visitor experience. For water refills and dump station access, Piñon Campground sits roughly 15 miles away near Quemado Lake.
Description
A real jewel of a secluded partially developed campground in ponderosa pine. Armijo Springs Campground is a secluded quiet campground off the beaten path, yet it is not too far from Quemado Lake. It is nestled among ponderosa pines and some oak trees which provide shade and make even the hottest summer day cool and bearable. There is a natural spring nearby. This is a good site for a group activity and has room for volleyball and horseshoes.
