Delaware Seashore State Park Campground accommodates horses on its oceanfront property near Rehoboth Beach. The campground features over 300 campsites, including options for tent camping, RV sites with full hookups, and cabin accommodations. While the campground permits pets, it does not offer dedicated horse corrals or specialized equestrian facilities. Sites are level with paved camper pads in the hookup areas and sand/grass/gravel surfaces in the non-hookup sections. The campground lacks privacy between sites but provides essential amenities including drinking water, electric hookups, showers, and toilets. Campground sites flood during heavy rainfall.

The campground's location provides access to both ocean and bay environments for riders seeking varied terrain. Sites are positioned near the Charles W. Cullen Memorial Bridge with beaches within a 5-minute walk of most campsites. Fishing opportunities are available at the inlet, making this a popular destination for campers who enjoy both riding and angling. The campground connects to multiple walking paths and provides access to nearby attractions including Rehobeth Beach boardwalk, approximately 15 minutes away. Seasonal considerations affect the camping experience, with weekends typically fully booked and summer months experiencing higher occupancy rates. While primarily catering to general campers rather than equestrians, the park's location offers diverse recreational opportunities in a coastal setting.

      Fin beach trip

Pretty easy camping trip, plenty of room to set up camp. Level spots. We stayed on south inlet campground. They have small camp store multiple laundry and bath houses. Great stay if you enjoy fishing, as. You can fish the inlet at the campground. They have a very nice playground for kids as well! Only negative is no camp fires allowed, they do have a community area you can have a camp fires allowed. Also no wifi

      Delaware Seashore State Park Campground

DE Seashore State Park: Crowded, but water activities everywhere!

Enjoyed the stay here June 19-21, 2026, in the tents-only section at a campground just 10 minutes from home. I've lived near this campground for 45 of my 66 years but never camped there.

The cramped campsites always turned me off but my wife and I decided to try it as a test run when we bought all new camping gear after not camping for 15 years(well, except for the 40-year-old Coleman stove that still works).

The campsites are tight and strictly BYOS(Bring Your Own Shade). The weather cooperated with temps in the low 80s and cool westerly winds. Because this campground sits adjacent to the Atlantic Ocean, Indian River Inlet and Indian River Bay, it fills up on weekends for camping, beach-going, fishing, kayaking and other water activities. I'd suggest going weekdays if you can.

Even with all the people, though, it was mostly quiet. The traffic from the Indian River Inlet bridge didn't bother me much but it did keep my wife up the first night. The bridge lights up at night and looks most spectacular at sunrise.

We ate dinner at camp the first night and then went to the inlet walkway to watch the sun set. The sunsets over the Indian River Bay, serenaded by the U.S. Coast Guard station's bugle calls with the lowering of the colors at its station at the north side campground, are a must. We also got to see a green heron foraging on the rockpiles and a dolphin swimming through the inlet. Fishermen lined the walkway to add to the atmosphere.

The next morning we drove over to the north side of the inlet to the Burton's Island trail-- another first for me. The trail was probably a mile or so and took about an hour, though it looked like we could have gone further into the brush had we not been wearing shorts and t-shirts. We came across a horseshoe crab traveling along a dirt path and a turtle trying to hide itself under downed tree branches. Blue water surrounded us in the marshes.

An excellent dinner at Matt's Fish House capped off our anniversary and we returned to the campground to watch the sunset again.

The bathrooms were well-placed. They were mostly clean but the five-second" Navy shower" intervals in the showers were annoying. There's no water or electric at the tent sites but a high-powered community water tap works for cleaning dishes.

The ban on open fires at the campground did disappoint. There is a community fire pit but no one used it our two nights there.

Oh, I can't forget the Diamondback turtles. Be careful driving so you don't hit them as they wander through the campground. We saw several lay eggs on the sand volleyball court and one scurried through our campsite and under our picnic table on its way to points unknown. The picnic table at each site is heavy but movable.

The people were friendly even in such crowded conditions. Lots of kids on bikes, skateboards and scooters and at the playground. Basically, you don't come here as much for the camping as you do for the water sports and activities.

As a tent camper, I'd opt for the tent-only loops versus the Standard sites that accommodate tents and small RVs and popups. Our tent-only loops looked less congested than the Standard sites.

I'd give this campground 4.5 stars. It would be an easy 5 if not for the crowded conditions.

      Windy!

We got a site to stay on our way through to OBX. We booked and arrived after hours, which wasn’t an issue as they were like 3% occupied. Sites were pretty level (within 2 inches) and had centrally located bathhouse. We were at the north campground. The winds were nuts and over 50mph. We switched sites to spare our slide side, so caution to look at windy before going. The views of the bridge were amazing. The noise of the coast guard waking up is alarming, but neat. It was trumpets and sounded like a horse race at 7am!

      Just steps to the beach!

General: There are two units to this state park campground - one north of the Charles W. Cullen Memorial Bridge and one on the south side. We stayed on the south side, so this review focuses on this part of the park. The south side has over 300 campsites, some with hookups and some without. I don’t know what the difference is between the designated tent sites and the sites with no hookups. Regardless of which type of site you choose, there is NO privacy/separation between sites, however, we were there on a Monday the week after Memorial Day and while the sites with the hookups were completely full, there were plenty of empty non-hookup sites.

Site Quality: All of the non-hookup sites are sand/grass/gravel and completely level; the hookup sites have paved camper pads (and are also level). As mentioned above, there is zero privacy/separation between sites, but this is the price you pay for easy and close beach access!

Bath/Shower house: Reasonably clean, especially being so close to the ocean. No garbage receptacle which was slightly annoying. The utility hooks are outside of the showers compromising some privacy. I didn’t use the shower so I cannot comment further.

Activities/Amenities: This is a popular fishing spot on the inlet. There is direct access to the beach under the bridge where there are restaurants, concessions, and other activities at the Big Chill Beach Club. There is also a pedestrian walkway on the bridge which was kind of cool. The playground is large and modern. There is a camper store, but it was not open when we were there. The dumpsters are a bit of a walk depending on where your site is located. Our site was almost directly under the bridge (and also a power pole!) but this was cool, especially at night when the bridge was lit up.

I’m glad we were not there on a weekend OR in the hookup sites; we had no neighbors directly on either side of us so it felt more private, but I would imagine that on weekends when all sites are completely full, it would be a different story!

      Nice place, great location.

We took our travel trailer down for a long weekend at the end of the season. It was pretty full, but didn't feel crowded. There are a few (seasonal) restaurants with in a few minutes walk/drive.

There is an unmarked speed bump on the way in, so go SLOOW.

      Nice campsites

Spent a weekend in BO1, spacious campsite, grill, picnic table, firepit, parking for 2-3 cars plus overflow parking. Firewood was easy to get and was plenty of it. I was only one in the forest ATM but saw some hikers occasionally throughout the day walking by.

      Delaware Seashore State Park Campground

      Just passing through!

We stayed here on our way down to South Carolina so we didn’t get to spend too much time exploring but we got a little taste of this beach-side campground.

It was located inland next to a bridge on the South side of the Indian River inlet. I understand there is a Northside of the campground too, on the other side of the inlet. We pulled in at night and didn’t have trouble finding our site, it’s very flat with no trees so you have good visibility. We had an electric hook up, picnic table, and there was a shared dump station on the grounds. The lot was sandy and level, easy to level. Unfortunately, there was a big rainstorm that night so some of the sites were flooded, tent campers were rained out.

The bath houses were okay, hard to keep clean especially after the rain we got, but they were also very smelly inside and out. The bridge was also stinky. Pretty sure the smells were amplified by the hot, humid air, not sure if it’s like that all of the time.

The beach is super close! We went to take our dog for a walk and, though the tide was in, it was shallow enough for me to walk out a bit. It was dark so I can’t comment on cleanliness but we heard from locals it’s a nice beach.

We were very close to Dewey Beach and stopped at Nalu for a drink. I loved the tiki bar theme and everyone was so nice, we even made a few new friends.

      Good but no trees

The amenities are good and nearby nice, but expensive restaurant within walking distance. You can go out on a fishing boat in the ocean on the north side of the inlet. There are virtually no trees here and none in tent camping areas. Bring your own shade.

Guide to Cape May Court House

Delaware Seashore State Park Campground provides equestrian access in a coastal setting between Rehoboth Beach and the Indian River Bay. The campground sits at near sea level elevation with flat terrain ideal for horse trailers and beginning riders. Weather conditions vary seasonally with strong winds common throughout the year, particularly at the north campground where gusts can exceed 50 mph.

    What to do

Beach riding opportunities: Designated beach areas at Delaware Seashore allow for shoreline riding during specific seasons and hours. "The beach on the other side had no lifeguard, but dogs were allowed on that beach and the water seemed a bit calmer and clearer over there," notes Gayle B. about the less crowded north side beach at Delaware Seashore State Park Campground.

Bay side explorations: The protected waters on the bay side offer calmer conditions for riders and horses. "We like the bay side for the kids no waves," shares Rich E., highlighting the gentler water conditions that horses may also prefer.

Bridge viewing: The illuminated Charles W. Cullen Memorial Bridge creates a unique backdrop for evening rides. "My favorite thing is at night when the rt.1 bridge lights up blue. Love that bridge," writes Dawn T. about the distinctive nighttime feature.

    What campers like

Direct beach access: Sites position campers within walking distance to both bay and ocean shorelines for varied riding terrain. "Ocean was a short 5 minute walk from our campsite—along with a playground and delicious restaurant," reports Gayle B. about the convenience of Blackbird State Forest Campground.

Level site conditions: The flat, open terrain throughout the campground accommodates horse trailers and equipment. "Sites were pretty level (within 2 inches) and had centrally located bathhouse," explains Joe R. about the north campground area.

Multiple recreational options: The area supports fishing and riding activities in one location. "This is a popular fishing spot on the inlet. There is direct access to the beach under the bridge where there are restaurants, concessions, and other activities," states Lee D.

    What you should know

Wind exposure considerations: The open coastal location experiences significant wind that can affect both horses and camping equipment. "The winds were nuts and over 50mph. We switched sites to spare our slide side, so caution to look at windy before going," warns Joe R. at Delaware Seashore State Park Campground.

Site spacing limitations: Campsites lack vegetation barriers between spaces. "There is zero privacy/separation between sites, but this is the price you pay for easy and close beach access," explains Lee D. about the tradeoff between convenience and privacy.

Flooding risks: Low-lying areas throughout the campground can collect water during storms. "It does flood in the rain," cautions Nicole S. about a consideration especially important for horse owners.

    Tips for camping with families

Playground access: Children can utilize modern play equipment when not participating in equestrian activities. "The playground is large and modern," notes Lee D. about the facility at Delaware Seashore State Park Campground.

Beach options for children: Families can choose between ocean and bay beaches based on wave conditions. "We like the bay side for the kids no waves," recommends Rich E., highlighting the safer swimming conditions on the calmer side.

Multi-generational appeal: The area attracts repeat visitors across family generations. "My family loves this campground. I have been going there as a very young child to now as a grandmother," shares Dawn T.

    Tips from RVers

Site selection strategy: Choose non-hookup areas for more space during weekday stays. "We were there on a Monday the week after Memorial Day and while the sites with the hookups were completely full, there were plenty of empty non-hookup sites," advises Lee D. at Delaware Seashore State Park Campground.

Site dimensions: RV sites may be smaller than advertised specifications. "Sites were a bit tight; I believe online it says they're 45x30 but I find that hard to believe. Our trailer is almost 38 feet and we only had a little room left over," cautions Gayle B.

Weekend noise considerations: Expect increased noise levels during peak periods. "Every night was quiet except Friday—that's when our neighbors decided to get drunk and sing karaoke until 2am," reports Gayle B. about the weekend atmosphere.
