Description

Great Bay Camping is a "family run" campground, where campers are respected and soon become members of our extended family, whether you are here for a few days or longer. Children can roam in a clean and safe environment. We only require that children have an adult with them at the pool, dock and boat launch area. "Bring the kids' bikes?" Of course!! Kids and adults can enjoy crafts such as tie-dye, candle making, sand art and more!(Weekends Only) Enjoy volleyball, badminton, tetherball, board games, shoot a few hoops, OR get very wet with our waterballoon games...

Located on the tidal Squamscott River (600 ft. of riverfront) in the quaint country town of Newfields, NH, we are the only private campground in NH with direct boat access to saltwater and fishing license required. (Striped bass or bluefish anyone?)

We do not have fancy landscaping, just what is natural for a campground in the woods, but our trimmed pine and oak grove campsite setting allows for shady comfort on those hot summer days and yet, you can always find a sunny spot to catch those golden rays for perfecting your tan. You can relax around a glowing campfire as each site comes with it's own firepit and picnic table.

Picture it... glowing fire, shining stars, moonlight reflected on the water, with crickets and frogs singing in the background...

Quiet, Cozy and Clean

I spent two nights at a site right on the river. The tall pines provided shade for the hot days. The sunsets were spectacular, as well as the sunrise! The host is friendly and helpful - guiding me to my site and helping me back in. I was right next to the dock to enjoy the peaceful water. The campground was quiet and guests were so respectful of my site - hardly even knew others were fishing or enjoying the dock. Bathrooms were spotless and seemed newly redone. Easy walk to The Shell for more ice/firewood. Quick access to Newfields Country Store for fabulous sandwiches - their chicken salad is the best I’ve had and made on fresh baked bread. This camp is Also close to Newmarket and Exeter and only 20mn to the ocean. Delightful experiences.

Tucked well off the road

If you blink you might miss the sign for the camp grounds, hidden in the gas station sign. We again camped with family, we were able to face each other and had a nice space in between us. Pool was open, as well as laundry and bath house. Pool was refreshingly cold on the hot weekend we were there. Boys did some fishing, only caught a eel. The bath house was clean and showers were large and looked really nice! The owner fogged our site but it didn't help fire long. Those bugs out there are vicious. No amount of bug spray help me or the kids. The eagles were beautiful to watch!!

Hidden gem

Wonderful little campground right off the main road but far enough back that you feel like you’re in the middle of the woods! Very quiet and relaxing. Pool, bathrooms, playground, and laundry room were open even though their website says they aren’t. There’s a shell station in front of the campground (you can’t see it though from the campground) and a Dunkin’ Donuts across from that. Downtown Exeter is only about a 10-15 minute drive. The hookups are a little strange as you feel you’re going onto your neighbors site to hook up. Unfortunately our site was mostly sand and had little to no grass- it appeared most the other sites were grass covered. My only suggestion is to bring lots of bug spray!
