The Wild Mustang

Description

Welcome to a one-of-a-kind camping experience in the heart of the Mojave Desert, where history, mystery, and breathtaking nature converge. This is no ordinary campsite — it’s a land of legends, once roamed by the infamous Butch Cassidy. Imagine pitching your tent on the very grounds that may hold his final resting place.

Nestled near the historic Johnnie Mine, our campsite offers a window into the region's fascinating mining history. Once a booming gold mining site in the late 1800s, Johnnie Mine is now a quiet yet intriguing reminder of Nevada's vibrant past.

Just 18 miles away, adventure awaits at Devils Hole, home to the world-famous Devils Hole Pupfish, one of the rarest fish species on Earth. Witness this marvel of nature in its secluded desert oasis, surrounded by an untouched and awe-inspiring landscape.

For those seeking even more adventure, Death Valley National Park is a short drive away. Explore the iconic sand dunes, salt flats, and rugged canyons of one of the most dramatic landscapes in the world. Return to your campsite under the vast desert sky, where the stars shine brighter than anywhere else.

Whether you’re a history buff, a rockhound, or a nature lover, this spot is perfect for those craving an authentic desert experience. Camp where outlaws once roamed, explore remnants of Nevada’s gold rush, and reconnect with nature in the quiet beauty of the Mojave.

5 Stars – Peaceful Desert Spot

We stayed at The Wild Mustang in our van and had such a great experience. After checking in with the host, we got permission to pull our van over the berm and onto the property—and it was perfect. It had amazing views and total privacy. You really feel like you’re in the middle of nowhere, in the best way.

The host was kind and responsive. The sunsets were gorgeous, and at night the stars lit up the sky—some of the clearest you will ever see. There’s a really peaceful, raw desert vibe here that made it easy to just slow down, unplug, and relax.

It’s easy to get to, but still feels remote once you're there. We’ll definitely be back next year!
