Six miles west of Fort Robinson on a gravel road, Soldier Creek Campground sits in the Nebraska National Forest with six first-come, first-served sites at $15 per night. The access road requires crossing a paved creek ford that could become challenging during heavy rains, though campers report the gravel surface stays in good condition most of the year.
The campground divides into two main areas connected by a short road. Two sites occupy a large grassy field to the right of the entrance, each equipped with picnic tables, fire rings, and trash service including recycling bins. The remaining four sites cluster around the horse camping area, which features corrals for equestrian visitors and serves as the trailhead for backcountry routes extending west into the forest. Clean vault toilets and a hand pump provide basic amenities, though the water quality appears questionable to some visitors.
Janet K. notes the campground offers "very clean pit toilets" and emphasizes the creek crossing consideration for access. A 1.3-mile trail leads west from the sites to three ponds stocked with brown trout, while longer backcountry routes accommodate both hiking and horseback riding. The area sees regular use from equestrian groups due to the corral facilities.
Campers wanting full hookups might consider Fort Robinson State Park Campground back toward Crawford for a more developed camping experience.
