Sitting on the edge of Glenn Cunningham Lake within Omaha's city limits, this Army Corps of Engineers campground draws a mix of RV travelers and tent campers to one of the few places in the metro where lakeside camping is possible. Concrete pads throughout the newer east lots keep sites level and accessible, and multiple reviewers note the campground has been well-maintained in recent years. New roads leading into the park have improved access considerably. Verizon coverage is reported as reliable, though there is no Wi-Fi on site.
Water access drives most visits here. The lake supports kayaking, paddle boarding, sailing, and no-wake boating, with rentals available on the property for those without their own gear. Fishing is a consistent draw, and a paved multi-use trail runs around the lake. A small on-site store sells ice, firewood, and food. Tent sites are described as close together, though occupancy in shoulder seasons tends to thin out, with one visitor noting September crowds were not an issue at all.
Full hookups with electric, water, and sewer are available in some sections, while other sites have electric only with a fill station near the entrance. Showers at the comfort station run $1 and are consistently described as clean. Connor S. notes "tons of room between spots" in the newer east lots, which tend to suit larger RV rigs well. Campers interested in camping near Glenn Cunningham Recreation Area will find a handful of nearby options, including Cunningham Lake Dam Site 11 Campground. The campground is open April through mid-October, and reservations are available, which is worth arranging in advance for summer weekends.
