      Platte River State Park Campground

      Pleasant Surprise!

We were passing through Nebraska and opted to stay the night here. The campground is new and will be even nicer when the trees are big enough to provide shade. We only stayed one night but enjoyed the walk to the small waterfall in the park. There is a large dog park, clean restrooms and nice trails for walking.

      Camp A Way Campground

      Nice park

Stayed here for a week over 4th of July, 2020 amid COVID19 restrictions. Lots of shade, though some sites are full sun. Great dog park: large, secure and shaded. Play ground, basketball, pool, family activities. Very clean restrooms. Good camp store with decent prices. Easy access to Omaha.

      Camp A Way Campground

      Great Location... Very Crowded!

This was a great location to explore different areas but it is a very crowded location. Some people like that and visiting with everyone.  That is not for me.  The campground is well maintained, the staff is friendly and our dogs enjoyed the dog park on the property.

      Double Nickel Campground

Very nice grounds and great amenities

Popped in for a quick one night stay on our way west. Chose this place based on reviews on The Dyrt. It is mid week in October but it's so quiet, which we really like. Great pull through spaces with full hook ups and fantastic WiFi which allowed me to get some much needed work in. When I told the owner we had two dogs he put us directly across from the dog park which our pups really liked. Super cute touches around the place including bench swings at all the sites. Looks like the place could be great for families in the summer.

It is directly adjacent to the highway so there is some noise but it's not too bad. We actually felt it was quiet and relaxing.

      Camp A Way Campground

      Awesome

The park is well kept, the sites have plenty of space to them so you don’t feel like you’re on top of someone else’s camper. There’s playgrounds and a pool, a dog park, basketball court and disc golf. The nicest park we’ve stayed at for sure.

    Guide to Seward

Tent and RV camping options near Seward, Nebraska range from state recreation areas to city parks within 30 minutes of town. Nebraska's relatively flat terrain in this region features lakes and reservoirs where summer temperatures typically reach 85-90°F during peak camping season. Water recreation forms the centerpiece of outdoor activities, with multiple fishing and boating access points available at most public camping areas.

    What to do

Water activities: fishing and boating: Branched Oak Lake State Rec Area has excellent water access points for various activities. "There's a huge no-wake area of the lake for kayaking and paddle boarding. They also offer boat rentals," mentions Jordan H. Morning hours provide the best conditions for water sports.

Disc golf: free course access: Pawnee State Recreation Area features a 9-hole course in Area 1. Kyle S. notes, "There's some mowed/natural trails to hike and Area 1 has a fun 9-hole disc golf course." The course is free to use with paid park admission.

Archery range: practice your skills: Both Branched Oak and Pawnee offer archery facilities. "I love the whole park - especially the archery range!!" says Debra B. The ranges accommodate various skill levels and are typically less crowded on weekday mornings.

Golf: walk to nearby course: Double Nickel Campground provides easy access to a challenging course. "There is also a golf course that is within walking distance (not attached to park)," shares Jared C. MickandKarla W. adds that it's "a deceptively tough 9-hole course."

    What campers like

Clean facilities: Campers appreciate the well-maintained bathrooms at most locations. At Smith Creek Recreation Area, Julia C. notes, "Clean vault toilets." Facilities at Double Nickel also receive positive feedback with Eric P. mentioning, "Bathhouse is nice and clean."

Fire pits and cooking options: Most campsites provide fire rings, sometimes with cooking attachments. Patheeka describes Branched Oak Lake as having "a large portion of the lake or greens to themselves on the back" with Timothy K. noting Smith Creek has "fire pits to give you a general idea of where to camp."

Lake views from campsites: Area One Campground offers premium water views. Wade H. describes, "Nice campground that has nice grass they keep mowed, paved roads and RV pads." Charles C. mentions, "The West is high on a hill overlooking the water and has a shower/toilet within the camping area."

    What you should know

Reservation requirements: Popular sites fill quickly during summer weekends. Jen K. warns about Branched Oak, "Plan ahead and reserve a spot or go early in the week otherwise you won't get a pad!!!"

Highway noise levels: Several campgrounds sit near major roadways. Wendy H. reports Double Nickel is "directly adjacent to the highway so there is some noise but it's not too bad." Charles C. mentions at Pawnee Lakeview Campground, "located just a bit west of Lincoln, NE on nice sized Pawnee Lake."

Algae conditions: Summer heat can cause lake closures. "The lake was closed due to a toxic algae bloom which meant that it was a little quieter than normal," notes Bran P. about Pawnee. Check lake conditions before planning water activities.

Water access limitations: Water hookups vary by location. Russ G. notes at Pawnee Area 3: "Big spots, good working power for 30 and 50 amp, but no water at the sites. The camp host had 200 feet of hose and we filled the clear tank from that."

    Tips for camping with families

Recreation options: multiple activities: Camp A Way Campground offers extensive family amenities. Jennifer H. shares, "So many fun activities for the kids and both times we've stayed in the patio sites. Worth it for the swing, bbq and camp fire." Tracy A. adds, "Very nice campground. Kid friendly with tons of activities. Nice pool & hot tub."

Swimming areas: designated beaches: Branched Oak has swimming areas with sandy beaches. Skylar S. notes, "I've been coming to Branched Oak since I was a kid. I love the vibe of the park. It's usually packed and the beaches are always full but it's always a really good time."

Playground equipment: newly built structures: Many campgrounds feature play areas. Jennifer T. says Branched Oak has "great swimming access" while Grace V. notes Smith Creek has "a little playground."

Seasonal crowds: weekend planning: Expect higher attendance Friday through Sunday. Lauren T. warns, "Expect sites to fill up fast around here, you have to be willing to drive around through all the loops and areas to see what you might be able to snag."

    Tips from RVers
