Piney Campground And Boat Launch

Within Deerlodge National Forest, Piney Campground And Boat Launch sits alongside Georgetown Lake at an elevation that keeps snow visible on surrounding peaks well into summer. The US Forest Service manages this drive-in facility, which accommodates RVs up to 45 feet and operates from late May through mid-September at $17 per night.

The campground's layout places sites around the lake perimeter, providing water access for fishing and swimming. A boat launch within the facility serves both motorized watercraft and smaller vessels, though Montana requires inspection of all boats, including inflatable kayaks, before launching. Jessica C. notes that "campsites surround the lake" and describes clean restroom facilities positioned close to each site.

Beetle kill has reduced tree cover across much of the area, limiting shade but opening sightlines toward the water and mountains. The campground includes both reservable sites through Recreation.gov and a separate Loop B section that operates on a first-come, first-served basis. Cell service reaches the area, and firewood is available for purchase. Reviews mention relatively quiet conditions with moderate boat traffic during peak season.

Campers needing additional supplies can access campgrounds around Philipsburg about nine miles north, while nearby Philipsburg Bay Campground offers an alternative lakeside option less than a mile away.

Guests frequently mentioned the clean facilities, affordable $15 nightly rate, and scenic lakeside sites with easy RV access. Several visitors noted limited shade due to beetle damage but found the peaceful atmosphere and mountain views made up for it.

Piney Campground

Nice campground with easy RV access to spaces. Know that there is a Loop B which doesn’t show on Recreation.gov, that is all FCFS…. Many sites that seem to go unused!

Nice sites overlooking the Lake

Snagged a FCFS site at this wonderful Montana state park after reading reviews. So glad I did. Such a nice campground, nice neighbors. Lots of people out on the lake boating. There is a boat launch in the campground. Snow covered peaks still visible in late June.

Not a lot of shade due to beetle infestation. But wasn't an issue in June. All boats, including inflatable kayaks need to be inspected at a Montana inspection station before launching in the water

I loved it here. Wish I'd stayed longer than one night.

Great Time at Georgetown Lake

We had a great vacation in Montana. Campground was $15 per night, better than spending $40 in WA. First long trip with the new 3 Feathers MFG Pinecone teardrop trailer. We love Georgetown & Anaconda!

Gorgeous Lake! Geese everywhere!

This was an awesome sleepy little campground. Campsites surround the lake. There is quite a lot of privacy considering there are not many trees. Toilets are close to each campsite and they are very clean. We stayed here in October. Let's just say the sunset was spectacular!!
