Lion Lake, consisting of North and South Lion Lake areas, is located in northwestern Montana near the Hungry Horse Reservoir. Despite its scenic setting, camping is not permitted at either North or South Lion Lake as these are designated day-use only picnic areas. Visitors can enjoy activities during the day but must find alternative camping locations. For overnight stays, head south to the Hungry Horse Reservoir area where numerous camping options are available.

While North Lion Lake is not a camping destination, the Whitefish, MT area offers several excellent camping options. For those seeking developed campgrounds, Hungry Horse Reservoir south of Whitefish provides numerous established sites with varying amenities. The Flathead National Forest surrounding Whitefish features both developed campgrounds and dispersed camping opportunities. Many sites offer proximity to outdoor activities like hiking, fishing, and mountain biking. Campgrounds in Glacier National Park are also within reasonable driving distance from Whitefish, providing a more immersive wilderness experience.
