Lolo Creek Campground

Highway 12 cuts close to this Forest Service campground, bringing road noise but also paved access to sites arranged in a simple loop near Lolo Creek. The proximity to the main route makes this a practical overnight stop for travelers heading to or from Lolo Pass, though campers seeking quiet will want to select sites furthest from the pavement.

Most of the 22 sites sit under a canopy of fir and pine trees, with several positioned directly along the creek bank. "Wide campsites in a loop near river," notes Martijn D., who found the layout accommodating for RVs up to 30 feet. The campground provides both electric and water hookups, along with vault toilets and potable water spigots scattered throughout the area. Each site includes a picnic table and fire ring, with bear-safe storage boxes available.

Wildlife sightings are common along the creek corridor. Previous visitors have spotted deer, beavers, and various bird species including eagles and grouse moving through the riparian zone. The creek itself offers direct water access for fishing or cooling off during summer months. An interpretive site within the campground connects to the Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail, and Lolo Hot Springs sits just 10 miles up the road.

Cell service is absent or unreliable throughout the campground. The facility operates on a self-pay system using cash envelopes at the entrance, with camp hosts maintaining the grounds during peak season. Despite the highway noise, many campers appreciate the convenience for Lolo area travelers heading deeper into the Bitterroot Mountains or continuing west toward Idaho.

Visitors often highlighted the beautiful riverside location with shaded, well-spaced sites and helpful hosts. Most found it peaceful despite some road noise concerns. Good amenities and easy access make it popular for overnight stays.

This listing has the wrong GPS coordinates and is a duplicate

We tried to drive out here and the gps location is on private land. The actual campground is to the east on the main highway on the south side of the road. This listing is a duplicate to this one https://thedyrt.com/camping/montana/lolo-creek-area which has the correct coordinates. I submitted an edit to consolidate but wanted to leave this review incase others found it.

Nice campsite off the grid

Wide campsites in a loop near river. Most people stay here for a night. Easy to pay, at the entrance you can pay in cash in a envelope. Campgrounds are with picknick table and firepit. Nice camphost. Only thing to consider is that this campisite is next to very busy road with a lot of traffic. But good for overnight stay. Vault toilets and some water points. There is no cell service atnor near the campsite.

Nice Views! Great people

The NPS designated a host for this park. I talked with him for at least 30min. Very pleasant older couple manages the site and keeps it very clean. Loved the stay but my next visit will be further from the road in my tent. Dogs Tents RVs welcome

Beautiful and forested!

This is a gorgeous area with tons of shade and sites right on the water. It is close to the highway, but the highway isn’t super busy to begin with. Only a short drive further down the road to Lolo Hot Springs! Sites are shaded and well spread apart, there is a clear path to the bathroom from almost every site, and the road is paved. Can’t wait to spend the night here!

Light foot traffic

A picnic table and fire ring is available at each campsite. RV accessible (30-foot parking spurs) are available. There is an interpretive site at this location and the Lolo Pass Lewis and Clark/Nez Perce National Historic Trail are nearby. A commercial hot spring resort is within 10 miles and the Lolo Pass Visitor Center is 19 miles west. It is 15 miles east to groceries and gas from this location

Birthday camping

Amazing river access from this spot. Bears, deer, beavers, frogs in the bogs along the river, butterflies, bats, fish, bunnies, grouse, chipmunks, eagles, black squirrels, snakes, and of course mosquitoes and flies... each site has a picnic table and fire pit. There are bear safe food bins and trash cans along with port-a-potty buildings.
