Deerlodge National Forest Ladysmith Campground

Part of the Deerlodge National Forest, this former established campground has transitioned to dispersed camping after forest management removed dead trees following pine beetle damage. The original paved loop road remains intact with four pull-out areas for vehicle access, though all amenities including picnic tables, restrooms, and water have been removed.

A few fire rings survive from the original campground layout, though their placement may limit usable camping spots due to rock piles and deteriorating concrete structures. The forest is actively reclaiming cleared areas, making level tent sites challenging to locate. Campers should bring all water and plan for primitive conditions while enjoying the maintained road access that distinguishes this spot from typical dispersed camping areas. The Mormon Gulch campground operates 2.1 miles east with full facilities for those preferring established amenities.

Reduced to disperse camping

Ladysmith Campground is no longer a campground.  After years of little use and then the pine beetle attack on the trees, the forest service cleared out the dead trees and everything else in the campground. Ladysmith is still open for camping, but it will be disperse camping as everything has been removed.  No picnic tables, No outhouse, No water, almost no fire rings.  A couple fire pits remain, one is mostly concrete and starting to break apart, another metal ring is in an area you can't park due to a pile of rock.  The good thing about this site for a dispersed camping area is that the pavement for the campgrounds loop road is still in place.  Four pull outs are available.  Finding tent space may be tricky has the forest is reclaiming the area.
