With just six sites arranged between Highway 89 and a creek, Aspen Campground operates as a basic Forest Service facility charging $5 per site plus $5 for additional vehicles. The compact layout places all sites within easy walking distance of a single vault toilet and water spigot.
Each site includes a metal fire ring, BBQ grill, and picnic table set among pine and aspen trees. The creek running along the opposite side of the highway provides consistent background noise that helps mask occasional traffic sounds. Christopher G. notes that "being right off the road is not an issue, there's not much traffic to hear." Site 5 offers the most space, while sites closer to the road tend to fill first on weekends.
The campground serves as a launching point for nearby hiking, including Memorial Falls trail and the Sluice Boxes. Fishing access is available directly across the highway. Cell service remains spotty with most carriers. No bear boxes are provided, so food storage in vehicles is required. For additional options in the region, campers can explore campgrounds around Lewis & Clark National Forest.
The facility stays open through hunting season, with mid-September visits often finding the campground nearly empty on weekdays.
