Small and lovely, but noisy

If it weren’t for the trains going by constantly, it would be a five star place. The trains were just relentless, even during the night. My husband is a train loving kind of guy, but even he thought it was very loud and constant. The sites are clean and nicely spaced. The view of the river was lovely. We were at site 15 and had a partial view of river.

Nice campground

This campground is called Bob Shetler not Shelter, but I didn’t know how to change it to correct it; just want to make sure others know this.
We stayed here for two nights while visiting family nearby. It’s a pretty location with the dam and waterway right there. The sites are well spaced. If we ever stay here again we would choose a site closer to the dam. We were close to a playground and there were a lot families camping in that area which for us took away from the peacefulness of the campground. There were electrical hookups, but no water. We didn’t use the bathroom/shower house, but I walked into one to check it out and it was outdated, old and dark, and small. Overall it’s a nice campground. It gets busy with a lot of fishing.

Rural paradise

We had such a lovely stay here! We will be back! It’s a beautiful setting, very quaint with the Rustic chapel and the view for miles. The sites are all clean and most all are level. Unfortunately our site 26 seemed to be the most in level, which was our only negative. We had to use all our blocks to get us as level as possible. The grounds are nicely landscaped and very well maintained. There’s a cute store and a cute little area with outside games like corn hole and yard checkers. There’s a huge grassy area for walking the dog and several stations set up with poop bags/garbage. There are several benches set where you can sit and stare for miles and miles. The campsite is close to several cute small towns, like Cuba City, Wisconsin and Galena, Illinois. It’s also close to Dubuque, Iowa, but we didn’t get to that one this trip. All sites are full hookup! We highly recommend Rustic Barn!

Lovely river view campground

Although we only live about 40 minutes away, this felt like we had escaped to a riverside sanctuary. It’s right off of a riverside highway, but it doesn’t feel too loud while you are camping. If you get a site on the southwest side of the camp closer to the river you will definitely not be bothered by traffics noise. The campsite it also right by train tracks, but we only had one train the whole weekend. The hosts were absolutely the best! They walk through the camp each night checking sites and are very easy and fun to talk to. The only downside to our stay were the shad flies closer to the river spots that covered RVs and cars. The bathroom/shower house was clean. There are also pit toilets on both sides of the campground. There aren’t water hookups for each site, but there are a coils of spots to fill up potable water. We loved walking the campground as well as the bike path nearby. We will definitely be back again!

Cramped and creepy

We stayed here for one night only on our way to a further destination. It had great reviews and looked like it would be a very nice place to stay and enjoy the lake. It was so absolutely crammed with RVs in all directions. Most of the place is filled with season pass type campers and golf carts. There are two small sections for non season pass campers and although they offer a lake view, they pack you in like sardines. We felt like other campers were constantly staring at us and just felt actually unsafe. It felt like we were staying in a trailer park. During the night someone shut our water off outside. We couldn’t get out of there fast enough. The staff in the office/gift shop were very friendly though. This just isn’t a place we will ever go back to. This is a place for people who live in the area and have season passes.

In town small peaceful setting

We stayed here for one night on our way to a further destination. It was nice and quiet even though it’s in the middle of town. We would’ve enjoyed it more if the hosts hadn’t moved us to a front location by then. The back area sites 2-8 were so peaceful looking and walking back to that area and through it was like walking into a completely different place. The key lock entry bathroom/shower house was the nicest cleanest we’ve used. We would stay here again if we could be guaranteed sites 2-8.

Beautiful river views

My husband and I stayed here because we traded our old camper for a different model nearby in Wisconsin and we thought this looked like a good place to test it out for the first time. Thankfully we had a somewhat secluded spot near the river, but if we had been closer to the front I don’t think I would have enjoyed camping here. It’s very crowded and there were what seemed to be a lot of seasonal pass type campers set up. It was noisy and just had so much constant activity. This isn’t a place for a peaceful relaxing get away. The bathrooms in the shower house were dirty when I used them late in the day, but the next morning were cleaned. The shower house was constantly busy as well. The gift shop/office is very cute and the staff was very friendly! If you stay I recommend sites 60 and 61.

Woodsy and cozy camping

We enjoyed the beautiful lake and cute restaurant/gift shop. We liked the different loops of campsites with pit toilets every where and a nice modern bathroom/shower house also. There were several camp hosts scattered among the camp site loops. Our campsite had a more open feel than some of the others. It wasn’t as heavily treed and we liked that. The sites were very well spaced apart. There were many well worn paths that lead to the lake, but it was too wet from previous rain for us to explore those. We did enjoy walking along the various loops among the trees. We will definitely return and bring some friends with us next time.

Lakeside views

We spent two nights here enjoying the beautiful panoramic view of Lake Allison. The campground is small and in a bit of a noisy part of town, but still very pleasant! There is a shooting range not far from the campground across the lake and we would hear shooting off and on. It wasn’t obnoxious, just not as peaceful as we like. There is also some traffic noise from the street near by. Our sight sat far enough away from the road so that noise didn’t bother us, but if you need full hookups and have a larger trailer, you will be closer to the road. There are two bathroom/shower houses on each side of campground. One is newer and has individual private locking shower/toilet areas. We preferred that one, but the older one was just as clean and nice. The campground staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Some of the sights at the campground could be very challenging for bigger rvs, some very uneven and small spots, but the staff are very helpful in directing you towards a good site suited for you. Overall we very much liked this campground and will be back!
