Camper Camping 5 Stars?

I rated this campground 2 stars based on they type of camping that I like to do. If you like to feel secluded in the wilderness when camping then avoid this place at all costs. If you are looking for a place park your camper with a nice view and plenty of distractions for your kids then this could be the perfect place. We went camping with my girlfriend's family and they loved it.

The campground has very nice views of the Mississippi River and the surrounding bluffs. The lot size for campers are big enough that you aren't stacked on top of your neighbor but there aren't a lot of trees. Plenty of playground equipment and some organized activities for children. There was a nice beach. We rented canoes and paddled around the river (probably my favorite part of the weekend.) There was a rummage sale the weekend we went (there are permanent residents there) which some members of my camping party loved. Very clean bathroom building with free showers.

Personally I was going to give it 1 star but I bumped it up because of the beach and some of the surrounding activities. But that being said my girlfriend's mother would have given it 5 stars so it really depends on your idea of what an ideal camping experience is. The campground had its own Wifi covering the whole place which really sums it up pretty well.

Beautiful Bluffs

We decided to make a spontaneous camping trip one weekend and found ourselves at Frontenac. The cart-in site we were at was very spacious but wasn't as secluded as we would have hoped. We didn't feel claustrophobic by any means but we could see several other sites from ours. We went early in the year and maybe the summer growth solves that problem. Bathrooms nearby but no water available. It was also windy enough in the evening that we called it an early night but I think that was just a front movingly through and had less to do with the hill we were on.

We went on a hike that showed off the wonderful bluffs along the Mississippi. As far as camping in Minnesota goes we prefer the options on the North Shore, but really enjoyed Frontenac and will be back to continue exploring.

Fury of the Lake

A few friends and I wanted to get a camping weekend in early in the season in a beautiful cart-in campsite. The view from the site was perfect but due to the early season weather our stay was a bit rough. We had 30/40 mph gusts and sleet one evening and the site was very exposed to the wind coming off the lake. Won't take points away from the stay for the weather though. Would highly recommend. Just beware that you aren't very protected from bad weather with most of the cart-in sites.
