Paddlers on the Mississippi River State Water Trail use this boat-in campsite as an overnight stop downstream from the Lake Winnie Dam, near river mile 1225 on the left bank. The access point reads as overgrown from the water, so look for the brown watercraft sign with a yellow canoe, then follow a short trail up wooden timbered steps to the site. Amenities are basic: picnic table, fire ring, and pit toilet. No potable water is available. The site sits elevated above the river with open sightlines over the water and catches enough breeze to help with bugs in early summer. The next watercraft campsite downstream is several miles away, making this a practical stop for afternoon arrivals. Campers who prefer drive-in access can find places to camp near Deer River or consider the Winnie Dam Campground upstream as an alternative.
