we have stayed here a number of times mountain and creek sites. it’s very secluded, gorgeous views, stocked trout stream and a friendly owner who is knowledgeable about the area. 4x4 required for mountain sites.
sites are close. scuba diving available as well as canoe rental. beach for swimming. waterfront sites are nice. well maintained.
the campground is very well maintained with lots of space between sites. shower / bathrooms are clean. we were in the electric loop. some of the non electric sites are not large enough for even a small pop up. the hiking here is some of our favorites in NC. mountains, waterfalls, old homesteads, there’s something for everyone.
we visited when the leaves were changing and it was absolutely gorgeous. hiking was great. campground is small, some sites too small for our 20’ trailer and truck. campground was busy, lots of kids.
this is a nice campground in a very touristy area. we arrived on a thursday and stayed through sunday. it got more and more crowded friday & saturday but quiet hours were observed and it was a relaxing stay at the end of a long trip. it says big rig friendly, i disagree, we have a 20’ trailer and it was tight. the lake is beautiful, no swimming kinda sucked. hiking was great.
we did not camp here but drove through the campground while there hiking. the 3 stars is for the campground. sites were small, not well maintained, some of them backed up to the highway. really glad we didn’t stay here. hiking on the other hand is 5 star. ice age trail is easily accessible from the park. absolutely beautiful day of hiking here. during the week we only ran into 2 other people on the trail.
we stayed in the west loop. sites were large and private. firewood available at the campground. beach and lake are beautiful. fish jumping all day long. hiking was really nice. we’ll maintained trails. we’ll be back for sure.
nothing special about the campground, facilities were well maintained. this state park is amazing. honestly one of my favorite places we’ve visited. the hiking is awesome. views are incredible. so glad we took this side trip from BRP. we will definitely be back!
beautifully maintained campground. nice facilities. a variety of sites available. in May there were plenty to choose from. we enjoyed our stay here. nice side trip from BRP.
nice quit primitive campground. camp store on site and we’ll stocked. bathrooms are well maintained. nice short hike to the summit. great wildflower hunting.
the location is awesome adjacent to Clifton Gorge and Yellow Springs. lots of great hiking. sites are small but well maintained. the town of Yellow Springs is adorable and the nearby Young’s Dairy Farm is a must visit.
decent size sites, some right on the lake. facilities are well maintained. mostly boaters, not much activity other than that.
huge campground loops. very small sites, no privacy at all. on the up side they do enforce quiet hours.
we were here on a weekend and looking forward to checking out this park. we stayed in one of the non electric loops. the campers next to us had 3 sites reserved, 2 just for parking. they had a bachelor party and we’re up all night long with loud music, loud talking, a fight broke out and around 2:am the strippers showed up. car doors slamming all night long. absolutely terrible. the next day someone came around in a golf cart and we’re very concerned that they didn’t see a permit for our site. i pointed it out and mentioned the party that had gone on she showed no concern at all. the party went on for another night. but to a lesser degree. never, ever, ever again will we stay at this state park.
very nice state forest campground with large sites right on the beautiful platte river. can get crowded on summer weekends. off season and weekdays you might have the place to yourself. can get muddy if there’s been a lot of rain.
lots of options here from full hookup to walk in tent sites. we prefer the non electric loop which tends to be much more quiet. took a star off for the reservation system which was put in place a few years ago. sites have to be reserved now, no showing up and being assigned a site. because of this people book them up “just incase” making it’s very hard to get a site and resulting in a lot of empty sites. it’s very frustrating. we used to stay here once a year but have since started staying at one of the state forest campgrounds nearby.
nice primitive campground with large sites near great hiking. showers are available at the electric campground down the road.
the campground is nothing special other than being attached to the Fort, which is really cool. the sites are small but well maintained. you won’t be hanging around the camp anyway, copper harbor is amazing! wish we would have scheduled more time for this area.
we loved this campground. the location is fantastic. secluded with access to awesome hiking but close enough to town to get supplies. the staff here is incredibly friendly. my only complaint is the use of generators. it was cold while we were there so i understand the need but it could get loud. we changed sites after our first night due to the noise. it wasn’t an issue after that.
we stayed at this campground on a recommendation from a friend. it was insanely crowded, very small sites. children riding bikes everywhere made driving a bit scary. we did manage to find some trails and escape the crowds for the afternoon but we’re not impressed enough to return.
