The sites on the lake side back up to sandy shoreline with views across Lake Superior. The beach itself has soft sand and a sandy or small-pebble lake bottom. Sunsets draw attention, and the sound of the waves carries through the night. Inland sites trade the lake view for a bit more tree coverage. Site 4 comes up specifically in reviews as a strong pick for those wanting the truck backed toward the water.
Amenities are more developed than the setting might suggest. Full hookups, including electric, water, and sewer, are available, and the facility has flush toilets and pay showers that multiple reviewers describe as consistently clean. Fire rings and power and water posts are standard at each site. The campground also has a playground, disc golf, and a walking trail. Yetiman calls it "close to the porcupines, super friendly staff and right on the water," which captures the dual draw of Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park nearby and the on-site staff responsiveness that comes up repeatedly. Firewood and ice are sold on-site.
The campground runs from May 1 through October 18, with a 16-day stay limit. No reservations are accepted, which introduces real uncertainty during peak summer weeks. Stores, restaurants, and gas stations are accessible in the area, though places to camp around Ontonagon vary in hookup availability, making this one a practical base for RV travelers in particular. The River Road RV Park provides an alternative if the township park is full. Pets are allowed throughout.
