Several campgrounds within driving distance of Clinton, Maryland provide furnished cabin rentals with varying amenities. Cherry Hill Park in College Park offers well-maintained cabins with electricity, beds, and climate control systems. Westmoreland State Park Campground features cinderblock cabins with waterfront views, as one visitor noted: "Cabin 24 is a 2BR/1BA cabin with waterfront views and large yard space. One room has two bunk beds, dresser, shelving, a lamp, and two night stands. Other room has a queen bed, shelving, a lamp, night stand, and dresser." Most cabin sites include outdoor fire pits, picnic tables, and access to central bathhouses with hot showers. Pohick Bay Campground in Lorton, Virginia provides cabin options with clean comfort stations nearby, while Bull Run Regional Park cabins serve as convenient accommodations for families exploring the DC area.

Rustic and deluxe cabins are both available, depending on the location. Prince William Forest Park offers large group cabin campgrounds with capacities ranging from 75 to 200 people. According to a visitor: "The cabins have beds with waterproof mattresses, closets, screen windows, and electricity, but no fans or AC (bring fans!!). There are central shower houses, central dining halls with full modern kitchens, fridges, and extra buildings called craft lodges." Patapsco Valley State Park features mini cabins with electricity and heat that are popular with families. Many locations are pet-friendly, though specific policies vary by park. Reservations are essential during peak summer months, with some parks like Westmoreland State Park and Adventure Bound Washington DC operating year-round, while others have seasonal closures.

Most cabin rentals provide basic furnishings but require guests to bring their own linens, pillows, blankets, and towels. Kitchen facilities vary significantly between locations - some offer only outdoor fire rings with cooking grates, while others include refrigerators and microwaves. The Washington DC/Capitol KOA in Millersville provides more fully equipped cabin options. Camp stores at locations like Pohick Bay and Westmoreland State Park sell firewood, ice, and basic camping supplies. For grocery needs, most campgrounds are within 20-30 minutes of supermarkets, though specific locations aren't always marked on campground maps. Visitors planning extended stays should bring cooking utensils, dishwashing supplies, and food storage containers, as these items are rarely provided even in the more furnished cabin options.

      Bull Run Regional Park

Site #133 — Great site once you figure out the best way to get into it

We stayed in site #133 with our 34'10" travel trailer/toy hauler. Overall, we really like the site. It's spacious, fairly level, heavily wooded, and feels surprisingly private. There's plenty of room around the camper, and although there are other campsites and cabins nearby, the trees provide a lot of separation. We had a nice large area for our chairs, fire pit, picnic table, and dogs. The biggest thing to know about #133 is the approach. We were instructed to pass the site, go around the loop, and then make a left turn into it. With our nearly 35' trailer, that would have required an extremely tight, almost 90-degree turn between the trees, and we did not feel we could safely make it. There is actually visible damage on one of the trees at the entrance, so it appears others may have had difficulty with the turn as well. Instead, we approached from the opposite direction and positioned the camper with our doors facing the main campsite area. That put the water and electric hookups on the opposite side, but our hoses and cord were long enough to run underneath the camper and reach without a problem. Once we figured that out, the site worked very well for us. I initially thought we probably wouldn't choose #133 again because of the awkward setup, but after spending the weekend here, I would. Now that we know how to approach and position our trailer, it really is a nice site. If you're bringing a longer travel trailer, just be prepared to do a little maneuvering and make sure your water hose and electrical cord have enough length if you decide to orient your camper the way we did.

      Little Bennett Campground

      Great Potential?

We stayed at Little Bennett starting on Labor Day Monday and left before the weekend, so it is hard to say how this looks when the campground is full of life. They had quite a few activities for families and a pavilion capable of concerts and such, but there was minimal activity during our stay. My biggest complaint is that the gate code changed and we didn't get any notice--so after a long day and a dinner out near Baltimore (nearly an hour away), I had to call the police to get back to my camper. Otherwise, the campsite was relatively spacious and quiet. The bugs were a little rough. Lots of whitetail running around.

Smallwood State Park Campground - TEMPORARILY CLOSED THROUGH JULY 2023

      Great Escape! Air conditioned cabins!

What a gem!  We found this place as an alternative to staying in DC during  4th of July festivities.  Nice spacious sites, cabins were super clean and smelled great!  Did I mention they were air conditioned during the hotest week of the summer!

      Bathrooms and showers were spotless.

Many things to see and do there. Historic property, big lake (no swimming), boating, fishing, hiking.  There is an Art Center with juried displays for sale.

      Ramblin' Pines

      Weak WiFi

For $90 per night the WiFi should work better. Didn’t connect at all. Had to use the antenna pointed East to get local Baltimore news.

      Cherry Hill Park

      My All Time Favorite…so far

This park is top notch. The grounds are immaculate. The staff is friendly and helpful. They have a lovely gift shop. We were in the 400 sites and it was nice and shady. Though you are close to highways I don’t recall hearing and noise. I love that they have shuttles to DC., walking trails and a large dog park. This is my all time favorite park so far and I need to go back.

      Washington DC / Capitol KOA

      Good location

Nice campground, maintained very well and clean. Laundry room and Propane fill on site so that was nice. RV Site was fairly level and easy to get into. Some sites are a bit close together and not long enough to keep your tow vehicle hooked up. A bit inconvenient if you’re only there for 1 night.

    Guide to Clinton

Cabin camping near Clinton, Maryland offers diverse lodging options within driving distance of both urban attractions and natural water features. The area sits on the Atlantic Coastal Plain at elevations under 300 feet, creating mild microclimates suitable for year-round camping. Summer temperatures typically reach 87°F while winter nights often remain above freezing, extending the comfortable camping season compared to areas further inland.

    What to do

Fishing opportunities: Endeavor Point provides direct access to fishing and crabbing from their pier. One visitor noted, "We went for labor day weekend and had a great time... the pier was perfect to fish or crab off of and the beach had great views of the sunrise."

Water activities: Pohick Bay Campground offers a variety of water recreation options. According to a camper, "Pirate's Cove waterpark is definitely a highlight in summer. Boating in summer from kayaks to motorboats." The campground is located on the Potomac River with boat rentals available.

Nature observation: For wildlife viewing, check out the eagle habitat at Pohick Bay. One visitor mentioned, "Beautiful campground located near the National Harbor. Eagles everywhere! Large clean sites." The surrounding habitat supports diverse bird populations year-round.

Historical exploration: The region contains several historical sites within a short drive. Westmoreland State Park Campground features educational resources about local history. A camper shared, "I love the sharks' teeth display in the shop and when I was there they were working on putting bones together of a whale that was found!"

    What campers like

Proximity to DC attractions: Bull Run Regional Park serves as an ideal base for exploring Washington DC while maintaining a natural setting. A visitor remarked, "We stayed at Bull Run Regional Campground on our visit to Washington DC. It was fall and the colors were gorgeous. The sites are all pull-through off the roads through the campground."

Quiet weekday stays: Many campgrounds are significantly less crowded during weekdays. One camper at Westmoreland State Park advised, "If you're anything like me, traveling for peace and quiet and solitude, I highly recommend Sunday and Monday nights if you have flexibility with jobs etc. It was SUPER quiet during my stay."

Clean facilities: Cherry Hill Park maintains well-kept grounds and amenities. A visitor observed, "Everything was extremely clean and well maintained. We loved the brick patio with patio furniture. Close to plenty of attractions."

Family amenities: Campgrounds offer numerous family-friendly activities. A Bull Run camper noted, "The campground had a climbing wall on one afternoon. There are miles of trails and my gkids enjoyed the nature scavenger hunt. You even get a prize when you finish."

    What you should know

Site spacing varies: Some campgrounds have more privacy between sites than others. At Smallwood State Park, a camper observed, "Sites are very well spaced out and there are only 15 in the only camp loop. Sites are private with most having thick foliage and trees between them."

Reservation requirements: Popular cabins book quickly, especially during summer months. At Washington DC Capitol KOA, visitors mentioned the importance of advance booking: "If you get an area to back into it'll be more secluded, but the pull through spots offer no privacy."

Weather considerations: Be prepared for changing conditions. A Westmoreland visitor shared, "Went in March 2018 for my birthday, when it was still VERY cold, but had a wonderful time. The beaches and trails seem so much more peaceful and untouched this time of year. Definitely gets windy near the river."

Noise levels: Some campgrounds experience noise from nearby facilities. A Bull Run camper mentioned, "There is a shooting range in the park. It is on a flight path for DCA. And, I66 is not that far away."

    Tips for camping with families

Educational programs: Take advantage of ranger-led activities. At Adventure Bound Washington DC, a family had great experiences with organized events: "With the help of my little munchkins, we packed everything up and loaded the car in no time. The only thing left was the wet tent!"

Playgrounds and recreation: Most campgrounds offer dedicated children's areas. A KOA visitor reported, "They have a nice area for kids (pool, playground, jumping pillow, basketball courts, giant chess, etc)."

Bath facilities: For camping with children, prioritize sites near bathhouses. At Bull Run, a camper praised, "The best review I can give us of the bathrooms. They're with staying again alone. Locking doors, individual stalls. Hot dog. Best camping showers I've ever had."

Swimming options: Not all pools allow young children. A visitor at the Washington DC Capitol KOA noted, "I didnt like that non potty trained kids are not allowed to swim in their pool. Luckily we only have a 9 month old currently that isn't potty trained so she didn't care."

    Tips from RVers

Site leveling: Check site descriptions for leveling information. A camper at Smallwood State Park mentioned, "Our site was perfectly level. Most sites appeared fairly level. Sites 10-14 were our favorites and ones we'd try to get if we go again."

Hookup availability: Electrical capacity varies between campgrounds. A Cherry Hill visitor noted, "50 amp hook-up, Water, Sewer," but mentioned their site had a "Gravel pad."

Winter camping considerations: Some campgrounds maintain heated facilities year-round. A Bull Run camper shared, "Bath houses are clean and well maintained," while Westmoreland visitors reported "Bathhouses are always SO clean and heated in the winter."

Site privacy: Request specific site types for more seclusion. A KOA visitor advised, "If you get an area to back into it'll be more secluded, but the pull through spots offer no privacy."
