Roughing it by a creek and a pioneer village

Basic car tent camping at several spots along a creek wIth picnic tables and fire rings (no hookups, portolet toilets, no showers.) There is a rustic scout cabin/group lodge reservable for scout, etc. groups. The park features a pioneer village with log cabins, including a blacksmith forge, etc. that have been moved to the site.

    Winton Woods Campground

Love this campground for a weekend rendezvous!

Winton Woods campground has spacious paved RV spaces with full hook-ups, fire ring, and picnic table. They also have cabin and tent camping. The location is located on the lake with access to put in a kayak or canoe. The bathrooms are clean, with private combined shower/dressing stalls. There is a playground for children, and a camp store that sells firewood and supplies. I love the tall pines on the property. They made me feel like I was out west. The campground is also near paved and unpaved trails in the park that surround more of the lake which allows for walking/running/hiking and bicycling, fishing, small craft boating, with small craft boat rentals available at the marina. The park also allows for horseback riding, and a small water park for children in the summer.

    Winton Woods Campground

Great county park in a beautiful setting!

This is a great county park! It has a nice “campground” feel set in a large pine trees and wide sites but has 50-amp full hook-up sites. The campground is set in Winton Woods County Park which is about 20 minutes from downtown Cincinnati.

There are 123 campsites including RV sites, tent pads, and camping cabins. Most RV sites are back-in but there are 12 pull-thru sites. There is a myriad of sites here from 50-amp full hook-up with paved pads and patios to 30-amp gravel sites. Sites have fire pits, picnic tables. Campsites in the front section (1F – 25F and 1R – 12R) are big rig-friendly with paved roads wide enough to easily maneuver. All utilities worked accordingly and were well-placed in the site. Our 4G Verizon phone got good reception and we were able to get plenty of antenna television channels. The online reservation system is easy to use and gives you an array of sites/cabins to choose from. Be aware that lots of people use this park on the weekends so it can get quiet busy.

There are lots of amenities at this park. Within walking distance of the campground is Winton Woods Lake which has a harbor with boathouse, snack bar, boat rentals and playgrounds. There are miles of paved and rustic hiking trails. There is a camp store, dump station, laundry, restrooms/shower house, boat/kayak launch, and fishing access. Located in the park is a golf course and horseback riding center.

You are within a few miles of everything … grocery, gas/diesel, restaurants, and plenty of shopping. The park is close to I-275 and I-75 making for easy access to major interstates. One place you should not miss is Jungle Jims international grocery and market. This totally eclectic, sprawling "grocery store" has so much to offer. They pride themselves on providing unique foods from all over the world. I could spend hours in this store perusing the isles of which are sectioned off into country and region. There are entire sections on Indian foods, wines, cheeses that you have never heard of, and tanks with live fish ready for the filleting. Also within close proximity is Greaters -one of the country's best ice cream shops (according to Food and Wine). Just down the street is a new person favorite sandwich shop called Izzy's which is famous for their corned beef and delicious potato pancakes.

Loved this park because you have a very nice campsite with 50-amp full hook-up site with lots to do in the area. Our site was level and the roads were easy to navigate in our motorhome. The paved trail around the lake was great for walking/jogging and perfect for launching our kayaks.

We would definitely stay here again.

    Florence, IN…Nice campground

Park is well maintained. Nice sized pool and very clean pool area. Park has a playground and dog park. Lots of space between campers with cement patio, fire pit and picnic table and lots of trees. We had no issue pulling in our 42’ 5th wheel. We came in after hours and our name with sits number was posted on the door and plenty of maps for the park. Nice layout! You could barely hear a train off in the distance which sounded cozy. Campground is about 30 min from Madison and Ohio River is across the street. Only con- trash cans are like in a whole different country and hard to get too. Would stay again!!!!!

    Great Park to relax

Great little park located just far enough away to get away but close enough to town to run and get something if you forgot it.

Campground is pretty compact but stays pretty quiet. Two well maintained restrooms and shower facilities. Property has a lodge, cabins, pull through, full hook up, and water/power hook up, primitive spots, and day use shelters.

There is a pool and a restaurant are located at the lodge. There are a few hiking trails and a playground for the little ones. There is mini golf canoe and paddle boat rentals available as well.

Free wifi (speed is questionable) but we found 2-3 bars on T-mobile and AT&T.

We frequent this park since it is close to home and the smaller size makes it easier to turn the kids loose. They have enough to enjoy but not so much where we have to be active every second.

Nice quiet spot for a few nights out.

This is a nice county park that is being upgraded.  There is a fairly new playground near the camping areas, a new pit toilet building, and a bridge leading to where a new trail system is being created.  There are a mix of Electric and non electric sites.  I think 9 non-electric and 7 electric sites.

Fire rings and picnic tables at every site.  We were able to fit our Escapod (tear drop) camper in a non-electric site.

I think there is more coming in redevelopment of this county park, so it shoudl keep getting better!

Sites are not particularly level. Bathrooms are clean and the hosts are attentive. The only trash bin is near the office by the out of service pool.

A camper described it as "Close enough to town to run and get something if you forgot it. Campground is pretty compact but stays pretty quiet." This balance allows for convenience without sacrificing the camping experience.

Well-maintained grounds: Versailles State Park Campground maintains clean facilities and organized layouts. A reviewer stated, "Very nice campground and park. Well set up. Easy to get around. Clean restrooms and showers. Nice lake to kayak on. Beautiful covered bridge." Regular maintenance contributes to positive experiences at most parks in the area.

Cleanliness of facilities: Swiss Haven RV Resort receives positive feedback for its customer service and cleanliness. One visitor mentioned, "Super helpful friendly owners that quite frankly made our experience. They are also trying to improve the spot." Bathroom and shower facilities across most area campgrounds receive regular cleaning attention.

What you should know

Highway and train noise at some locations: Northern Kentucky RV Park experiences noise from nearby transportation routes. A camper reported, "We spent one of three nights booked here and left. The freeway traffic is very loud 24 hours and the train comes at least 2 times per night blowing its horn." Consider noise-sensitive campers when selecting locations.

Site limitations and sizes: Many campgrounds offer varying site sizes and layouts. At Three Springs Campground, one visitor noted, "Sites are pretty level, although we did have to unhook to keep truck from sticking out into road." Research specific site dimensions before booking, especially for larger RVs or trailers.

Seasonal availability: Most cabin rentals require advance booking, with peak times filling months ahead. Weather conditions vary significantly, with temperatures ranging from mid-80s in summer to below freezing in winter months. Spring camping often experiences higher rainfall totals, affecting trail conditions.

Tips for camping with families

While some visitors noted "Not much for a family to do," others appreciated that "Kids caught crawfish in the creek." The campground offers fishing opportunities in a small pond for catch-and-release activities.

Splash parks and swimming areas provide cooling options during hot months.

Educational opportunities: The region offers access to historic sites and nature programs. A visitor to Winton Woods reported, "There's Parkys farm which is fun for little ones!" Many parks feature interpretive programs during summer months, with schedule information available at park offices.

Tips from RVers

Site leveling concerns: Campgrounds in the region often have varied terrain requiring leveling blocks. At General Butler, a camper warned about safety issues at certain sites: "At site 11 and a few others, they had no backstops at the back of the blacktop pad. If the site was level, it wouldn't have been as bad." Most campgrounds offer a mix of level and sloped sites.

Water and electrical connections: Many camping cabins near Warsaw, Kentucky provide different hookup configurations. Site selection matters, as one camper at Winton Woods noted, "The electric sites are nice. Reasonable amount of shade in most." Electrical service ranges from 30-50 amp depending on location, with water connections available at most developed sites.

Seasonal considerations: Winter camping requires different preparations than summer visits. One visitor mentioned, "We stayed one night at Winton Woods because it was close to friends we were visiting. None of the back in sites had been plowed!" Year-round campgrounds maintain different service levels across seasons.
