    Our favorite local hangout

Beautiful well-kept park with gorgeous trails, beach, lots of shade, and quiet camping. We’ve been here three times now and just love it. Outlet park is below the dam. If you’re into fishing/boating the giant lake has a marina with everything you need to get out on the water as well as a kitchen where they serve hamburgers and other food items. The Marina is currently closed as of 8-2-24 due to weather damage but will reopen.

    Cedar Park

    Easy

Stayed here for a quick overnighter off season. Looks like this is state land with designated camp sites in season. I parked. Near the boat launch and had a quiet night. There is a pit toilet close.

Beautiful views and lots to do

Beautiful campgrounds with so many activities available! The general store is super helpful, as they sell firewood and ice, and have kayak and canoe rentals. There are a few swim beaches, and plenty of sand to sit in and relax. Our actual campsite was great and came equipped with a firepit and picnic table, and we could walk to the lakeshore. We will be back!

    Melvern Camper - Outlet Park

We had a great family trip to Melvern Lake. Fishing at the Dam release was fun but pretty difficult to reel in fish. Camp was pretty quiet, and bathrooms were pretty good (toilets, showers, and sinks with warm water). The water was pretty gross for swimming and rocky. Saw deer and turkey.

    Cedar Park

    Waterfront site - no complaints

It’s a long gravel road to get there and you’re mostly just in farmland, but there are waterfront sites and it’s flat. There’s a ground toilet you can walk to. I wouldn’t swim in or even filter the water, but makes for a pretty view.

    Beautiful park in Kansas

This is a beautiful park.  It has a river that runs through it and a man-made lake.  The campsites are separated a little from each other.  Lots of nice trees.  There are lots of paved trails and paved roads in the campground that are nice for biking.  There are some trails through the woods also.  We had electric and water.

We visited this park in early April.  It was very confusing to get a site because there was no camp host available and the park office was closed.  (It was Saturday.)  There were a lot of local campers in the park.   There are maps on bulletin boards but no printed maps were available.  This is a BIG park with multiple camping areas so it was difficult to figure out on our own.

Remote quiet camping with nice facilities

Spent the weekend here and glad we had reservations prior as it was full even though it was the end of October and the weather wasn't the best.  Close to Melvern and the railroad tracks so if the sound of trains all night isn't your thing, then pick somewhere else.  Excellent clean restrooms and showers.  Great views of the lake from many spots. Also good cell service.  Only 8 miles from Lyndon where there are restaurants, gas and a dollar store although no grocery store.

    Water side

Sites level and on the larger side. Basically the water is a large pond with a circumference road with sites off of it. Restrooms clean, virtually no road noise yet it's right near it.

El Dorado State Park Bemis Loop

Very quiet and spread out. Small RV loop with approximately 35 gravel sites all with water and 30/50 amp electric. The sites are fairly level with picnic tables at each site. All have lake views. It’s about 3 miles to the main state park area, which is very busy.

    Melvern never disappoints…

Beautiful as always. Loved our camp site. Shower house was cleaned regularly. Water was down a little at the beach, but didn’t stop us from enjoying it.

    Dangerous!! No Park rangers!!

First time at this lake can't read any signs no park rangers around we broke down took 5 hours to get any help from the park ranger my friend from Derby had already drove all the way with his boat to get us out of trouble overcharged his $40 for a stinking tent and an electrical outlet... Then they take reservations so you will never find a place at this lake should be first come first serve... I broke my hand and cut my head open because there's no signs there's no help there's no phone number you can call and get any help it sends you to the county office very dangerous to go to this lake you're going to destroy your equipment too there's so many rocks in this lake your prop will be destroyed I promise you that!!!

Primitive camping was small and exposed, but fun

The fivestar loop is decent for tent camping. The sites were fairly small and jammed next to each other, and half of them didn't have great tree cover, but they all have a nice firepit and picnic table.  It was super duper windy off of the lake for us, so be ready for wind.  Bathrooms were nice and clean and the staff were very nice.

    Everything you need is here

This was one of our favorite Kansas State Parks. At the end of May, it was almost empty. We had our pick of sites. We got a prime tree shaded spot on the water. In fairness, most sites are on the water or have a water view. Spectacular sunsets.

There was only 1 small bath house open while we were there, but it was clean and the shower was hot. It was one of those push button kind that only stayed on for a min. Not a problem to just keep pushing.

We road bikes, but the cold spring winds made kayaking impossible. In the summer, I can see why this place would be a fun destination. Swimming, boating, fishing, horses, archery, wide open spaces.

The roads within the park are not the best. Also, online reservations must be made 48 hrs in advance, otherwise, its day by day.

    Favorite campground and fishing area

The outlet area below Melvern Reservoir has been our favorite camp site for over 35 years.   Full service campground, laundromat at each shower house, plenty of shade, and lots of fishing.  My husband is known as Fred the Fisherman.  The only problem is that it's very hard to get reservations, as they fill up fast.  Good luck!

    Loved it!

I slept here on my way from Denver to Washington DC in February 2021. I have a mini camper in my CRV, I pulled up at midnight, went to a spot right by the shore and saw some incredible stars. Free and easy, and a nice change from all the flat dry Kansas fields.

    Peaceful stay

My husband, our 2 dogs, and I stayed at the Equestrian Loop. We pulled in our PUP for a night sleep. The spot we chose to pop up was right near the water, and you could hear the waves hitting the shore all night long. A beautiful and peaceful sound.

Boulder Bluff Area — El Dorado State Park

    Beautiful and peaceful

We stayed in the equestrian loop. All but a couple primitive sites are back-in. The layout of the fire rings, grills and picnic tables are all weird... Not consistent and usually on the wrong side of your trailer. The parking pad was nowhere near level, so you'll want to plan for that. The trees are lovely. You're very near the water and the breeze was beautiful. The toilet at the loop are pit. The bath house was not clean and many of the showers didn't work.. Water is lukewarm but water pressure was great. No stall doors on toilets or showers. We used the city of El Dorado dump station. The park is massive. Lots of amenities in El Dorado. And a quick jump to Wichita. We will be back.

    Nice fall camping

We had a nice weekend stay at this lake. We booked site #210, and were happy with the amenities. Fire ring with built in grill worked well. Luckily the lake wasn’t crowded, so we had lots of space to ourselves. Lake staff were pleasant Nice views of the lake, but not very good shore access from where we were at. However at the end of the campsite was a nice fishing dock. The took a short hike and the trail was well maintained. All in all, we found it to be a nice stay and fairly close to home.

    Nice campground, good breakfast nearby

This is a nicely maintained state park. All the amenities you'd expect. No complaints. Truck stop a few miles away that had a really good breakfast and giant cinnamon rolls!

Post flooding, still a decent place to hammock camp

We stayed in the “Basic Camping” area #50 Beautiful views of the lake and plenty of trees to setup a hammock or two. We had some noisy neighbors, and for some reason the hogs (noisy motorcycles) were popular late into the night whilst trying to fall asleep.
