Free camping along the shore of Pomona Lake means Cedar Park draws a steady mix of tent campers and RV travelers, all arriving via dusty gravel roads that reviewers consistently flag as the main obstacle to entry. Drive-in access is straightforward once you accept the road conditions, and sites are well-spaced with gravel parking pads for rigs or open grassy areas for tents. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring. A single vault toilet serves the area and, based on multiple reviews, rangers keep it maintained reasonably well.

Waterfront sites give direct views of the lake, and the area includes a gravel boat ramp, making it a functional base for anglers and kayakers. Cleanliness comes up repeatedly across reviews as a genuine positive, which is notable for a free, year-round site. Wildlife sightings, including deer, turkeys, and vultures, are common on the roads in and around the campground. Cell service is listed as available. The campground is open to pets and alcohol, and site numbers have recently been marked with permanent plaques, with a payment kiosk planned for a future date.

"Beach access for fishing and kayaking," notes Redneck R., summing up what makes the waterfront access here worth the drive. The site is currently free, though one reviewer mentioned that fees may be introduced once the kiosk is installed, so it is worth checking current status before planning a trip. Campers who want more developed facilities nearby can look at campgrounds near Pomona Recreation Area, including Wauconduh- Pomona State Park roughly 2.4 miles south, which provides a more structured alternative.

Beautiful area.

Great area, friendly guests even the kids showing up on the weekends were well behaved. One vault toilet they maintain the best they can. Area is patrolled by Park Rangers and law enforcement, not sure if local, county, or state. While there the park placed plaques marking site numbers and eventually they will add a kiosk that will have a QR code for payment, they were not sure what the fee would be (free for now). The sites are huge and not right on top of each other, they offer a picnic table, fire ring, and a gravel parking spot for your camper or grassy areas for tents. Very dusty roads getting here but worth it. Watch out for wildlife, deer, turkeys, and vultures are always on the roads including the pup that chases you're truck, just down the road from here, lol. Hope this helps, Happy camping you all!

Easy

Stayed here for a quick overnighter off season. Looks like this is state land with designated camp sites in season. I parked. Near the boat launch and had a quiet night. There is a pit toilet close.

Waterfront site - no complaints

It’s a long gravel road to get there and you’re mostly just in farmland, but there are waterfront sites and it’s flat. There’s a ground toilet you can walk to. I wouldn’t swim in or even filter the water, but makes for a pretty view.

Loved it!

I slept here on my way from Denver to Washington DC in February 2021. I have a mini camper in my CRV, I pulled up at midnight, went to a spot right by the shore and saw some incredible stars. Free and easy, and a nice change from all the flat dry Kansas fields.

Can I park my RV at Cedar Park Campground?

Yes, Cedar Park Campground can accommodate RVs. The sites are flat and have good vehicle access, making them suitable for RVs and other camping vehicles. The campground is accessible via a long gravel road, which may be something to consider when bringing larger vehicles. Both small camper vehicles (like converted CRVs) and presumably larger RVs can utilize the space, though there's no mention of specific hookups or size limitations.

What amenities are available at Cedar Park Campground?

Cedar Park Campground offers 8 designated campsites with basic amenities for a comfortable outdoor experience. Facilities include a vault toilet, fire rings, and picnic tables. The campground provides waterfront sites with a gravel boat ramp for lake access, making it suitable for fishing and kayaking. There are also equestrian sites available with 6 corrals for those traveling with horses. How do I make reservations for Cedar Park Campground?

Cedar Park Campground appears to operate primarily on a first-come, first-served basis without a formal reservation system. For the most current reservation information, it's recommended to contact the managing agency directly, likely the state park service or local recreation department that oversees this campground.
