Pull-offs, gravel circles, and small lots make up the camping at Montgomery State Fishing Lake, a free dispersed area managed by Kansas State Parks along the water's edge outside Independence. No toilets and no trash service. The area has stayed clean according to recent visitors, and deer are sometimes visible across the lake at dusk. RVs up to 45 feet can access the sites, and anglers and paddlers have direct lake access. Campers exploring the camping near Independence area will find this a workable overnight stop on or off Highway 75.
