Best Cabin Camping near Sac City, IA

Several campgrounds near Sac City, Iowa provide cabin rentals with varying amenities and comfort levels. Hagge County Park offers one cabin at a reasonable price with access to restrooms, showers, and hiking trails along the river. According to visitor Lori N., "It is a great, quieter place than most." Black Hawk State Park in Lake View (about 20 miles from Sac City) features cabins with electric hookups, picnic tables, and access to both fifty-amp and thirty-amp service. Crawford Creek County Recreation Area, located in Battle Creek, provides what one visitor described as "nice cabins for rent" alongside multiple play areas for children and water activities including fishing, kayaking, and swimming.

Most cabins in the region are pet-friendly and equipped with basic furnishings, though specific amenities vary by location. Dolliver Memorial State Park, while not in immediate proximity to Sac City, offers "clean cabins with kitchen" facilities according to reviewer blaycee. Reservations are typically required, especially during the peak season from April through October when most parks operate. Yellow Smoke Park has been noted as "perfect for a small family reunion" by one visitor who rented their three cabins and "had a whole area to ourselves." Many cabins remain closed during winter months, though some parks like Spring Lake County Park operate year-round with heated cabin options.

Cabin guests should plan to bring their own bedding, towels, and personal items as these are rarely provided. Kitchen facilities range from basic countertops to full kitchens with refrigerators and microwaves, depending on the specific cabin. While firewood is available for purchase at some locations like Camp Crescent Park, others require visitors to bring their own or purchase it from nearby towns. Cell service varies significantly between parks, with some offering good connectivity while others have limited or no service. Most cabins include outdoor fire rings and picnic tables, making meal preparation possible even in more rustic accommodations.

    Dolliver Memorial State Park Campground

    Beautiful and tranquil

Dolliver State Park was our maiden voyage in our travel trailer and it was obvious we were pitiful newbies! The park's beauty and tranquility did get disturbed a couple times when our dogs got loose (newbs!). The park staff were friendly and very helpful as were our fellow campers. The sites are mostly level with picnic tables and fire rings. Sites range from shady to sunny and the reservation website depicts the sites with a small photo and details about the amount of slope and shade. Cell service was good but no WiFi without a hotspot for us. We had fun, learned a lot and plan to camp here again!

    Swan Lake State Park Campground

    Perfect

Tented camped in late October, the weekend before closing.  I was only tent camper in the electric only sites.  If there was a tent only location, I didn't see it.  Those in campers that need water and electricity are regulated to gravel 'parking lot' sites.

Beautiful park with playgrounds, swim beach, fisbee golf, paved trail, many fishing bars, and more.

Electric only sites are small and spaced out well.  Most have level drive perfect for sm camper or suv camping. Grass has slope, but I think you can find a good enough place for tent, I did.  Bathroom clean enough, I didn't use showers. I enjoyed the privacy of lake-front site J.

    Spring Lake County Park

    Small place, lots to do

This place is really family friendly. Plenty of camping spaces, some right next to the lake. Swimming area, concession stand, boat rentals, and even a skating rink on the weekends. My favorite childhood camping spot.

    Spring Lake County Park

Nice park with much to do

We were lucky and got a spot right along the lake. This park is peaceful (only slight downfall is the trains you can hear a bit-not too loud though). Bike/hiking trail, disc golf, kayak/paddle boat rentals, swimming beach, historic roller skating rink, playgrounds and more-something for everyone to enjoy! Close to Jefferson which has a great coffee shop and cute shops!

    Dolliver Memorial State Park Campground

    We Love this park!

The RV parking area isn't really big, but all sites are great & feel private, especially the outer ones. We have never stayed in the cabins, but they look nice & well kept. Bathrooms & showers are nice. We LOVE the hiking trails. Some can be a pretty good workout & steep for a 61 year old, but they are do-able & have resting benches a long the way. There are some beautiful old bridges if you get on the right trails😁 Wifi is virtually non-existent there, but it is nice to be "unplugged" We have a DVD player & watch old movies if its raining. We wish the park cut-up it's own firewood & offered it for sale (there are plenty downed trees available) It would be an extra income for them. As it is, you can't bring in any wood outside the area because of the Elm Tree Borer possibly being transported, so you will need to go to Ft Dodge to buy some (Menards & possibly some gas stations) have bundles you can buy. It would be so much easier right at the park, like some places we go in Minnesota. We live an hour away and come just to hike sometimes. Nice, quiet place

    Hagge County Park

    Nice smaller campground

Hagge Park has only 15 sites available with full hookups, but it is a great, quieter place than most. Nice shaded areas. There are some primitive sites too. It also has 1 cabin for rent at a reasonable price. There are restrooms & showers, but we have never used them, so I can't review them. We love hiking the trails there & almost always observe fisherman along the river. There aren't a ton of trails, but what the ones there are beautiful & well maintained. You can get a great workout😉 We will go back!

    Swan Lake State Park Campground

    Not very tent friendly

This state park camp site close to Carroll, Iowa was nice, but we were the only tent campers there, it seemed more like a permanent RV home site. The bathrooms while nice had no working showers, they had showers but no way to turn on the water. There was a cute frisbee golf on property, a beautiful lake, and a nice paved walking path.

    Little Sioux Park Campground

    Above average county park

If half of a star was an option, I’d probably lean towards 3.5 stars.

I’d classify this as an above average county run park/campground. All sites are first come first serve. We arrived on a Saturday evening around 5:30pm and found a site no problem. There are two loops. One has electric only sites and the second has electric/water sites. One concrete pad ADA site.

Small beach area for swimming. Two playgrounds. Very nice field of wild comb flowers blooming near the shower house.

The shower house was less than than stellar. IMO it’s cleanliness kept this review from being considered near 4 stars. Usable bathrooms and shower stalls…yes, but definitely lacked attention.

    Spring Lake County Park

Best waterfront camping we have found

The best waterfront camping we have found near us. Small friendly community of camping. Door to door ice and concession delivery. Awesome open air roller skating rink and nightly grilling parties at the beach.
