Alongside the Mississippi River in Buffalo, Iowa, Buffalo Shores County Park gives campers direct access to one of the Midwest's most recognizable waterways. Sites sit close enough to the river that barge traffic is a regular sight, and several positions along the shore provide open sightlines across the water. The campground operates year-round under the Scott County Conservation Board, with nightly rates running $22–$25.
Most sites are pull-through with electric and water hookups, and reviewers consistently note the grounds and restroom facilities stay clean. A dump station and bathhouse are on-site, and the camp office sells firewood and snacks. The adjacent beach, volleyball pit, horseshoe area, and boat ramp draw a crowd on summer weekends, and the boat ramp in particular sees heavy use. Campers planning a holiday weekend should arrive four to five days early, as the park fills quickly during those periods. Andalusia Slough and Clark's Ferry Recreation Area are nearby alternatives for those who need more space or a different setting.
"Most are pull through sites but each one has a view of the Mississippi River," notes Lisa B.. One practical note: site pads may not accommodate two full-size vehicles simultaneously, so extra parking is available in a nearby lot. Gas stations and restaurants in town are roughly a mile away, making resupply straightforward for a multi-night stay.
