Description

Indiana DNR, State Parks and Reservoirs Division

Brown County State Park

Nicknamed the "Little Smokies" because of the area's resemblance to the Great Smoky Mountains, Brown County encompasses nearly 16,000 acres of rugged hills, ridges and fogshrouded ravines. Glaciers from the most recent ice ages stopped short of the "hills o'Brown," but their meltwaters helped create the narrow ridges, steep slopes and deep gullies of Brown County State Park. Indiana's largest park is a traditional fall color hot spot, with nearly 20 miles of tree-lined roads and many scenic vistas overlooking miles of uninterrupted forestland.

Campground Check-in/Check-out times are 2 PM Mondays through Saturdays and 5 PM on Sundays and Holidays.

Winter Camping Information (early November through late March): Brown County State Park offers winter camping in some of our campgrounds as noted below. Reservations accepted year round. The Great Smokies of the midwest

This beautiful park does not seem to belong in the Midwest.  Our family returns at least once a year for the scenery and biking.  We generally use the Rally group campsite and invite our friends to join us.  This site is great due to the extra room for tents and proximity to the mountain bike trails.  Keep in mind that these sites run a lot more per night and additional occupants that show are expected to pay the park over and above the daily rate.  Also the park does not allow usage of the campground shower facilities if you stay on a Rally site.

We have also stayed in both the electric and primitive sites.  Both are very nice and allow use of the nicest campground shower facilities around.

This campground is busy all season so book a long time in advance.  Also they are very strict about dogs even in the large open areas so beware to keep them on leash at all times.  No frisbee or fetch games allowed.
