Description

Army Corps of Engineers

Brookville Recreation Area

A part of the Brookville Lake -Whitewater Memorial State Park Complex, Brookville Reservoir lies in the historic east fork of the Whitewater River Valley. Brookville Lake camping is possible at two State Recreation Areas: Mounds SRA (not to be confused with Mounds State Park in Anderson) and Quakertown SRA.

The lake property has more than 25 miles of hiking trails, boating opportunities, and nationally known recreational and sport fishing. Two beaches and more than 400 campsites make this an ideal family vacation spot.

The area was purchased by the federal government for flood control and to provide a place for wildlife and recreation. More than 11,000 acres provide a variety of habitats for plants and wildlife. Brookville is one of the few sites in Indiana where walleye grow big enough for fisheries biologists to milk the females for eggs to supply walleye fry to many lakes in Indiana.

Big sites, trails, beach, store & more

Stopped here for one night on our way to Michigan. Drove around looking at all the sites, wrote down numbers of sites we’d like to stay at (near bathrooms (we have a teardrop). Decided to come back for 12 days after our trip. Many sites to choose from. Full hook ups are limited, but we were happy with a power site. Plenty of bathrooms and shower facilities. They are not bad, I would consider them to be clean (I’ve seen a lot worse).

Our first site was about 30 yards wide. Our current site is about 20 yards, with an open grass area next to us another 20 yards.

There is a beach here, with a concession stand. It was closed when we arrived. (They close after Labor Day and open back up in May.

Many hiking trails, some allow biking. The trail map does not designate whether you can ride or not. But there are signs on the posts at the trailhead. I descended over 1,000 feet in the first 4 miles. There was a lot of climbing, technical single track, switchbacks, rocky creek crossings and some roots. The trees keep it cool even in 80 degree weather.

Plan to come back and meet family here next year.

Quiet and convenient

Stayed over the weekend and had a lovely relaxing time.

Pros: quiet, close to Brookville, lots of trails nearby, nice swimming beach Cons: hard to get a site next to the playground - it's kinda out of the way.

Loved our site - lots of trees for hanging a hammock and very roomy! Wouldn't book during rain though - I think it would be super muddy.

Great weekend getaway

We booked 5 days before and were pleasantly surprised at how good of a site we had. Pretty level, plenty of room for our 43’ fifth wheel. We didn’t swim but the beach looked nice. We did fish a little.

Nice but bathrooms need updated

The campground and area is nice. The campers are pretty much all about the water activities. The big lake is nice and long with multiple no wake areas. There are a couple of beach areas. The camp bathrooms are concrete block and pretty clean but old and need updates. Great shower pressure! The camp sites are pretty far apart at least twice as far as in private campgrounds and so have ample room even for our two good sized dogs. The sites are black topped but narrow and short. More problematic is that most have slopes. A few too steep to level a trailer. There were more tent campers than trailer campers when we were there. Oddly the roads were one way but all of the sites were at 90 degrees from the narrow road making it difficult to back in. I did not see any pull through sites. Almost all have 30 amp electric but saw no water or sewer hook ups. Maybe half of the sites had any shade. There were just a few trails and those were pretty overgrown in July. No animal problems even though they had open trash bins. All had iron fire pits but many were old. We had noise problems the first night even though security was supposed to patrol till 2:00 am. We saw three newer playgrounds although those were a little outside of the camping areas and without any shade or bathrooms. Plenty of bathhouses with a few pit toilets around.

Site30 amp only.

Nice, clean campground with lots to do

This is the second year we have been there.  Very cute town of Brookville for shopping and or rafting on the nearby river.  Campground very clean w/ lots of bath/shower locations.  Lots of electric site - only negative was there were very few full hook up sites so need to reserve those early.  Brookville lake nearby for boating (rentals), large beach area.  Decent hiking but not the best.

Overall I'd give it an 8 out of 10.

Fun place! But…

We enjoyed our first trip to Brookville Lake. The camping area only provides a few areas with complete hookups. The area that we were in all the sites are on a slope which required a little extra setup than normal. The restroom/bath houses could use a total updating. They are a little rough and dirty. Don’t let this stop you from visiting, the lake is great and there is plenty to do.

Just a check mark

The lake was gorgeous! The campground....not so much. You could tell it was an SRA and not a state park. Trails were decent. Some of them were a bit overgrown.

Beautiful trails and Lake access

Mounds State Recreation Area located near Brookville Indiana is a beautiful location with camping for tents, trailers and motorhomes. There’s plenty of outdoor recreation available with trails and water access to Brookville Lake. About a dozen of the campsites have full hookups with 50amp power, water and sewer. These sites are big rig friendly. When booking online be cautious of site grade as many of the sites in the original loops have a moderate grade and are uneasy for motorhomes to level. The camp store has both ice and firewood available as well as souvenirs and snacks. Be cautious when making reservations as there is also a similar park with the same name located in northern Indiana.

Small campground...no partying here.

Stayed here a year ago. Nice long sites but not very private. Planes sometimes fly overhead. Trails, pool, historical home to visit. Only one vehicle is allowed. Even guests who may be unloadIng wIll be asked to move wIthIn 5 mInutes. Guest parking is quite a walk. Do not park even ONE tire on the grass-they make you move.

This is a clean and well maintained camp ground. If you are looking to get close to the lake life this is a great spot for it. You will find many campers are here to enjoy the lake with their watercraft or at the big sandy beach for swimming and paddle boarding.
