    Country Bend Campground

    Great experience!

Big things happening at Country Bend Campgrounds in Montrgromy Co, IL. This beautiful campground has many things to offer and is only a few minutes from the local drive in movie theater in Litchfield Illinois. It has a pool, swing sets, playground, cabins, ponds with stocked fish, beautiful walking trails, camping, welcome center, baseball field, volleyball, games, horseshoes, paddle boats, miniature golf, and so much more. This family run business is under new management and is welcoming new seasonal campers and day campers with competitive pricing. This beautiful campground is nestled in a scenic area in the country and is pet friendly. It has clean shower houses with warm water. We just purchased our seasonal campsite earlier in the season. Come check out this amazing campground and all it has to offer! Our rough collies will be joining us at this dog friendly campground! There is always something to do here and the owners strive to make it a family place by providing many activities on the weekends. The owners have done an amazing job on this campground and have made it one of the best campgrounds around to create that lasting experience with our children before they grow up!!!

    Country Bend Campground

    Great family friendly campground

Great place to stay and feel part of the community.  Pretty scenery to walk around.  Plenty of lakes/ponds to fish.  We couldn't boat while there due to COVID but look forward to going back and taking our kayaks.  Attentive and Friendly camp hosts. Pet friendly. Close to town if you've forgotten anything or want to have a restaurant dinner. Close to the highway for easy access.  Full hookup available. Monthly or Season also available.

Draft Kings at Casino Queen RV Park

    Clean, Secure Overnight Park

Very clean and secure overnight park just outside of STL. Phenomenal views of downtown and the arch, and fairly easy access to I-55/64/70. Facilities lacked some amenities (only vending machines, convenience store has shut down), but clean, paved, level sites with full hookups throughout.

    Country Bend Campground

    GO ELSEWHERE

Our motorhome is a big rig a 42 foot diesel pusher.. They squeezed site was 7 ft wide with little gravel mostly wet grass and mud.Our 40000 lb RV was 8 1/2"ft wide. We were put in a spot by Country Bend Campground not large enough for our vehicle. Not much gravel all mud. Due to a huge tree no satellite service yet the owners stated was good for our 42 ft diesel pusher motorhome and no obstacles. We were sandwiched between two living full time people right next to us. We waited 3 hours to come in since they charge$5 an hour extra for early arrival. GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE!!$$$$ is their goal. They want you to rent their golf carts because everything is so spread out. We have been full timing for two years. This is the worst experience we ever had. No water hookup. We called Kate Tuxhorn the owner and she said sorry i forgot to tell you that you have to tap in your neighbors water. Her husband Jeff Tuxhorn has many bad reviews too.Leaving we hit that huge tree that we had no way to turn. Thousands of$ damage.

    Opossum Creek

    Nice so can be crowded

The Opossum Creek Recreation area is open year-round for the boat ramp and Disabled / children fishing pond and pier. The campground is only open Memorial Day to Labor Day. I camped here in June, however I did the photography in October so there are no campers in the shots. This campground is only about 6 miles from the town of Shelbyville where there is a Walmart, restaurant’s, gas stations, bait, hardware stores, medical care, the Shelbyville Dam, Beach, City Park with lakeside trails and firewood. This proximity to facility’s makes it popular, so having less than 100 campsites it tends to fill up quickly. It is advisable to book ahead on-line if you want to stay here. The sites are nice and the park is clean, but the sites are close together. The boat ramp is well thought out with tons of parking and being close to town is usually busy in the summer season. This campground is also cared for by the Corps of Engineers and seasoned camp hosts man the gate house at the campground. The disabled fishing pond is well stocked so it is easy for wheel chair bound fishermen to catch their daily quota. I recommend this campground for people with motorhomes, fifth-wheels and campers that want to take in the Shelbyville lake town experience while visiting.

    Timber Trails Campground

    Wonderful layover and family friendly

Timber Trails Campground is a easy layover off of I-70, offering a family-friendly environment. The park provided us an easy in and out, pull-through site that was level and convenient. Coles Creek Recreation Area

    Nice lake, quiet campground

Coles Creek Campground on Carlyle Lake has 219 sites, most with full hookups, and shade. (There is 30 & 50 a as no service). Internet is spotty. There are also 2 group campsites with cabins. There are showers, flush toilet, a playground, fish cleaning station, boat ramp and a dump station. There is also a laundry area. All the campsites are either on the shoreline or a short walk to the lake. The whole campground is fairly flat, so the sites are level and easy to get into. There are a few pull through sites. Comes Creek is on the east side of Carlyle Lake, away from the larger, more crowded Hazlet State Park area. It’s a great place for fishing and boating or just enjoying the lake. The lake is a prime fishing and boating lake, and is recognized as one of the nation's top ten inland sailing lakes.

    Okaw Valley Kampground

    Very Convenient!

This campground is very convenient if you’re looking for a quick stay during a trip. It’s just a short hop off the highway, yet the road noise wasn’t bad. Barb, one of the owners was very helpful and nice. The ground was very squishy due to melted snow and a lot of rain. And Barb apologized for that, even though it’s not her fault. Did not use the facilities. It’s big rig friendly and has pull through sites.

Guide to Litchfield

Campgrounds near Litchfield, Illinois offer a variety of options for outdoor stays in central Illinois. Located approximately 45 miles southwest of Springfield, this region features mostly flat terrain with elevations around 600-700 feet and moderate summer temperatures averaging 75-85°F. The area's camping season typically runs from April through October, with some facilities remaining open year-round.

What to do

Fishing opportunities: Country Bend Campground features multiple stocked fishing ponds with connecting walking trails and bridges. A camper mentioned, "We really loved the bridges with trails to ponds" and noted the campground's family-friendly atmosphere.

Miniature golf courses: The Double J Campground offers a putt-putt golf course along with other recreation options. One reviewer noted the campground has "a huge pool, putt-putt golf, and washer and dryers," though they mentioned it's "a little on the pricey side."

Visit local attractions: Stay at Country Bend Campground and visit nearby sites like the drive-in movie theater in Litchfield. According to a reviewer, the campground "has a pool, swing sets, playground, cabins, ponds with stocked fish, beautiful walking trails, camping, welcome center, baseball field, volleyball, games, horseshoes, paddle boats, miniature golf, and so much more."

What campers like

Spacious pull-through sites: The Double J Campground receives positive feedback for its site layout. One camper appreciated that "almost all are pull through. Full hook ups," while another mentioned the "large pull through spots" among other amenities.

Clean facilities: Multiple campgrounds maintain well-kept restrooms and grounds. A visitor to Rustic Acres Jellystone observed, "The place is very well maintained, is tidy with an attractive appearance," adding that the campground is "surrounded by cornfields and the air felt clean and fresh."

Convenient highway access: Kamper Kompanion RV Park offers easy access for travelers. A reviewer noted it's "Easy on off, right by highway, pulled in after dark and they met us to show us to the site and got us settled. Easy pull thru site with 40' and toad."

What you should know

Site conditions vary: Some campgrounds have drainage issues during wet periods. At Country Bend Campground, a reviewer cautioned, "The sites are sunk down, poorly rocked and extremely narrow. The majority of sites are backup only, which is a recipe for disaster with all of the rain central Illinois has had."

Seasonal scheduling: Most RV parks near Litchfield operate from spring through fall. Rustic Acres Jellystone offers a family-friendly atmosphere during the camping season with "themed activities, bounce trampoline pillow, pool, etc."

Reservation requirements: Some campgrounds require advance booking, especially during busy seasons. One camper at Double J Campground shared, "Called last minute on a Saturday, I had to leave a message and was hoping someone would call me back! Within five minutes, I had a call back and a lovely pull through site reserved."

Tips for camping with families

Look for activity schedules: Country Bend Campground offers organized events, especially on weekends. A visitor mentioned, "Holiday weekends have so many planned activities, some for all ages," and another noted the owners "strive to make it a family place by providing many activities on the weekends."

Consider campgrounds with play areas: Several RV parks feature dedicated recreation spaces. At Rustic Acres Jellystone, a camper observed it has "a large pond for fishing. There was also a swimming pool that looked inviting," making it ideal for families.

Bring outdoor games: While many campgrounds provide activities, having your own entertainment is helpful. Double J Campground offers "outdoor checkers, basketball court, put put golf" according to one reviewer, but having alternatives is always wise.

Tips from RVers

Check site sizes and access: Some RV parks have limited space for larger rigs. At Kaskaskia Dragon RV Park, a visitor noted "Long spots, friendly owner, easy access to hardware store across the street," but mentioned "gravel is unlevel" as a downside.

Plan for utilities: Full hookup availability varies across RV camping near Litchfield. One Kamper Kompanion RV Park guest described it as "basically a big open flat field with sites and building spread throughout" with "a cute little fenced in pet area with benches for the pups to stretch."

Consider weather impacts: Central Illinois weather can affect camping conditions. At Love's RV Hookup, a visitor noted the convenience of "concrete slabs" for parking but described it as a "typical super busy truck stop with bright lights and lots of action but safe and convenient."
