Best Glamping near Kankakee, IL

Had a great time this weekend camping with my wife and two boys. We camp in an Hybrid trailer and really appreciated the price point with full hookups. Sites were decent size and had fire pits at each location. They had plastic picnic tables which where light to move and easy to clean. Decently quiet camp site with a pool for the kids to cool off made for an enjoyable weekend. Close to Kankakee and some of the other towns in the area for things to do. I would definitely come again to kayak on the Kankakee river. Unfortunately the water levels where too high for this trip as warnings had been issued

December 2020, we toured this KOA Holiday in Kankakee, Illinois for a long-term stay.

We noticed a few trailers with a lot of junk piled all around their units. When we inquired about them, were were told that those people were being evicted and would be soon gone. Great, since our site was directly across the street from those.

Well, no one left, the junk remained.

There were other sites that had wooden cages, tables and other structures built on them. Clearly a violation of KOA written violations.

Anyway, we weren't buying the place, but an awful eyesore.

We couldn't find another site for a long way around. Without another good option, we checked in for an extended stay.

We became friends with a few of our neighbors. We began comparing our utility charges and found that we were all being charged different rates for electric and internet. When we asked for actual "electric bills" we were told there wasn't individual bills, charges were taken by the owners reading your meter, strange. "Some" of us were paying for internet. Our neighbors had the ability to move to another job site,, so they packed up and left.

Things aren't adding up.

We had nice site on the interior of a cul-de-sac, with a nice large open grassy space right behind us. It is one of the quietest and largest sites in an area, where most of us were staying long-term. After a few months, it became apparent that the owners had their favorite renters. The ones who had wooden structures, piles of junk and that were allowed to park their vehicles in areas that were designated "keep off the grass". Yep, that nice grassy area right behind our RV was where they parked their 2 vehicles, not utilizing their own parking spaces in front of their trailer. When we complained, we were told that we were welcome to park our second vehicle there also. However, when we parked our second vehicle in the same area, we were asked to leave.

As far as regular short-term camping, it's ok. It's older place with huge rotting trees, mostly dirt or gravel sites. The washers and dryers were nice in spring of 2021. The owners do a good job of "acting" nice and welcoming.

I would not recommend an extended monthly stay at this KOA HOLIDAY in Kankakee, Illinois.

Great spot for an end-of-summer trip. Arrived on Sunday and nearly had the place to ourselves. Campgrounds are far removed from town and very quiet, large enough to feel isolated. Host sells ice and firewood for a reasonable price. Campsites are well-sized and offer grills and electrical outlets. Bathrooms and showers are extremely clean. Great oasis from Illinois’s light pollution for stargazing. Trails are perfect for easy strolling and offer diverse and lovely scenery. Lots of wildlife: heard many different bird calls & coyotes howling in the night. One very persistent raccoon: hide your food!

Small campground but very friendly. A plus was the full hookups. The sights are very close together. Management is not over bearing and very friendly. Dog friendly lots of dogs this weekend nice size dog park! You overall great weekend

Many very nice permanent sites. We loved the dog park along with the many activities available. We come here at least once a year. Check out their information on their website.

If you want a quick local get away this is the place.

The campground was nice and clean. Nothing super fancy but all the necessities were great and price was very reasonable! Pool was a bit chilly and small but very clean and the kiddos loved it. Playground was nice and geared toward smaller kids. Staff was friendly and very nice. Firewood, ice, etc. could be ordered via text and delivered. Trash pick up daily.

We go camping here often because it is close to home. The owners are so wonderful, their staff is super accommodating. The campground is clean and all the campers, seasonal or non seasonal are so nice & friendly. We always go in October on one of their Halloween weekends a just have a blast. They provide scheduled activities, nightly movies, haunted hay rack rides and the owners even offer up a free dinner! We have never once have had any issues at this place and is one if our favorites!

I stayed here a couple times camping in a tent. It’s a quiet place, not much to do and very little exploring options. Right across the street is a landfill, but never smelled anything bad.

Of all the KOA's so far on my journey was the worst. Not really the campground owners fault for the most part. Stayed on a Friday night, knowing I needed a rest in the trip, booked about 5 days in advance in app. First the camp store really had nothing, second there were some kind of car races until around 9:30, awful noise, third camper near by started banging inside the camper until 11:30! Everytime it would happen it would scare my dogs thinking someone was outside. People walking late at night shining lights towards others rvs around midnight. Needless to say no rest. Wouldn't stay there again.

We enjoyed our stay here, but I expect a KOA site to be a little cleaner.  Not terrible, but there was trash at our site.

A little bit noisy from some cars and Quads racing up and down the road (not the highway, but the road near the KOA.

There was a game room with laundry attached, had plenty of room to visit with family during the rain.

Bathrooms were clean and had nice showers.

Nothing too fancy here but, it was an overall good experience.

From the start you feel welcomed. My site was small compared to other campsites. It was still big enough for our tent and a table and pit. We had to park in a nearby parking space because our site was surrounded by other sites and common area. There is no electric in "tent city" either, but it is near the roundhouse and showers. There is an outdoor shower as well. That was awesome. The events were great forLabor Day weekend. This was our first time at and adult only resort or clothing optional. The people were friendly and helpful to others. This convinced us that this is how we will camp from now on.

Nice big sites, easy to get in and out. Sites are not marked very well though. Swimming lake is nice.

Staff was extremely helpful as this was our first trip with the new camper. Was very quiet. Clean shower and bathroom.

We camped here in 2020 we had no problems the staff were great the place was clean. Things changed for me I had surgery and couldn’t sit up the camper so we decided to find a camp site close to home this year. We met with Richard to check things out he spend a coup of hours showing us and allowing us to drive around to see where we would like to camp for a year. You couldn’t beat his customer service! He even offered to help me sit up camp if I needed , that was the deal breaker ( I had back surgery and couldn’t bent over or move very good) you don’t get people to step up and offer much help now days. He is a big part of why this park is doing so well.

Great park just off interstate. Gated for security and plenty of shade. Great family setting and staff.

We have stayed there several times now. fun place with plenty to entertain the kids. Owners are super nice too.

My mother-in-law was a member here for years. My family would frequently visit her camper during the summers. Always a great time! My company even hosted employee appreciation events here a few times. The list of amenities is remarkable, but membership is required. The beach and lake were always well maintained, and we had often enjoyed live music at the pavilion. You can even play mini golf here! I would highly recommend for anyone that can invest. I didn’t make the review 5 stars because of the need for membership, but some may find that appealing if they want an exclusive experience.

The following review was done by my thirteen year old daughter. I agree with the shower problems and add that it was our final cold showers in disgusting conditions that lead us to write the review.

“If I could give negative stars❌ then trust me I would. Normally I consider myself a good sport and can sit through a lot of things✌🏼 but not the showers here😡, they look like they haven’t been cleaned or cared for in months🤮 and often have no toilet paper in the bathroom stalls. When I took a shower I found a small frog🐸 in it and I wish I was joking about that. There were dead mosquitoes on the walls💀, dead moths on the floors, piles of hair on the floors🤢, and dirt in every crack. But they have a nice Rockwall🧗🏽‍♂️.”

Other than the shower issues, the campsite🏕 was fine. It was easy to level, they give you free firewood with your stay, the staff is kind😇 at checkin and during rock wall activities. The location🗺 is the main draw, as we wanted to be close enough to visit Chicago and suburbs.🙂

We decided to spend the weekend here because I had a client meeting at sunrise the first morning of our stay in downtown Chicago. It saved me making a 3 hour drive the morning of. When we got here, we realize the electric sites on the right side of the bathhouse were in full sun, but the staff member graciously allowed us to switch sites to a more shaded area. I will say I was at the main office for 20 minutes or more before my fiancé could track down a staff member to check us in. Their phones do not forward to a cell or anything so calling the office was pointless.

The campsites are TINY. We were in a modest pop up and still felt crowded. I supposed this would be a great camping area for anyone living in the city needing an escape, but as far as campgrounds go it was about 3x the price for less than half the space.

The bathhouses are newer and kept fairly clean. I don’t think they’re checked everyday though because the ladies stalls were out of toilet paper our second morning. The water pressure in the showers was so-so, but there was no hot water.

There is a dish washing station on the outside of the bathhouse, but don’t get excited because it isn’t turned on - rendering it useless.

The safety issues have me seriously concerned.

1.) The handicap shower drain is clogged, making the floor extremely slippery from soap scum of previous showers. Gross! The stall also doesn’t lock so it swings right open. I had to use my hair tie to keep it closed. The lock on the main door to the bathhouse doesn’t lock, so if you want to shower at night it’s a little sketchy.

2.) They lock the gates (both of them!) to the campground with a PADLOCK at night until 7 in the morning! I had to search for someone to let me out for my meeting. What if there was an emergency? An ambulance would have had to rush the gate.

Overall, I wouldn’t waste the money on this campground.
